A visible ligh filter can be made from an unused 3.5" floppy disk. Break it open and cut a piece from the disk the same size as the filter you removed and put it in it's place. I'm not at my gaming rig right now but I will post a guide through the settings later. Note.you will probably have to invert the yaw axis as it is wrong in game.

It works well for me. You have to make sure that you have low light boost and any other of the camera's image enhancing settings turned off. Then under the pointtracker window settings there are a few things that need to be adjusted. Then changing the curves to suit your needs. My camera olny delivers 30 FPS but it's very smooth and accurate. Did you install a visible light filter in place of the IR filter?

The Rift will need to have a minimum screen resolution of 3840x1080 to equal that of a 1920x1080 monitor. I couldn't even imagine playing any of my game at less that 1080p. Hopefully that level of resolution and lag free headtracking will be in the offering some day. It's not on the immediate horizon so I think the cockpit owners are OK for a while. John

Is this just a visual change or could it have something to do with why the first frequency selector of both VHF radios are non-functional in Helios? John

This one is pretty cool too. http://digilander.libero.it/tornadoblu5/en/index1.htm And my favorite DIY'er one http://www.simprojects.nl/presentation_fscb.htm

The first powered itineration was driven by two automotive windshield wiper motors. I first saw it maybe 10 years ago. Pretty cool. The original design was manually driven by the joystick. http://www.x-simulator.de/wiki/Joyrider_2DOF_full_motion_simulator_by_TronicGr John

FaceTrackNoIR not working with DCSW?
Thick8 replied to JayPee's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If your question is "Does FaceTracknoIR work with a 3 point IR led emmitter with the Freetrack interface?" the answer is "yes". John http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=75917 -
adding a fourth independent monitor to eyefinity
Thick8 replied to poiopopo's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Make sure you can find an overlay for your monitor. I don't think they come in a 22" size. If you have to buy the monitor and the overlay, a touchscreen would be cheaper. John -
I use a tool box drawer liner from Lowes on a hardwood floor. It's the same material they make those dashboard pads from to keep your phone from sliding around. I imagine it would work on carpet as well. John

I made my FSX MIP out of 3/8" PVC sheeting. It is easier to cut and has a cleaner cut than both ply and mfd. It is lighter weight and structurally stronger. it can be painted with very good adhesion propertied if it has been sanded and primed. It is not that much more expensive that wood if you can find it locally. This is where I buy mine http://freckleface.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/pvcsheet.html Hope this helps. John

I bought this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824016320 It's a Windows 7 monitor; meaning that it oly registers two fingires and has raised bezels that make Windows 8 gestures impossible. But as a Helios gauge screen it rocks. John

Need advice from 3+ screen users.
Thick8 replied to Krebs20's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Here's my single 6970 Eyefinity setup. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=109693 Took about 5 minutes to setup. Helios took some reading (and question asking) at the forum to gain an understanding of how to set it up. Regardless of what flavor card you go with, there is plenty of support here to help you get it running. John -
warthog hotas and helios conflict?
Thick8 replied to Picksplitter's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
1. Start the Helios Profile Editor. 2. Open the Loz SM v2.1 profile. 3. Double click the #2 gauge monitor in the preview view window. This will open the gauge monitor view in the center. 4. Zoom out and click somewhere on the engine gauges. 5. under the "bindings" tab click on the > next to "set hidden" setting. 6. Click on the x of each of the binding boxes to remove those bindings. I had to change a few settings to make everything work the way I wanted and to install some more functionality. You should check out the tutorial on youtube as it will give you some ideas about what you can do with this excellent program. Hope this helps. John -
I first used a 16" monitor with the MFD's attached to the front. Worked well but it left me wanting. So I found this: http://www.amazon.com/Planar-PXL2230MW-Edge-Touchscreen-Monitor/dp/B00C04QLNY/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1375232046&sr=1-4&keywords=pxl2230mw I set up Helios with CptLoz's 2.1 profile and sold the MFD's on Ebay for $60. works perfect. There is no framerate difference with or without Helios running on a seperate monitor as long as you are only displaying the MFD's and other viewports on the touchscreen. John EDIT: Here's the touchscreen in action. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=109693

warthog hotas and helios conflict?
Thick8 replied to Picksplitter's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You must have CptLoz's 2.1 profile. That's what it does. I think he has the comm window open there. To change it you must use the Helios editor. It.s very simple to do but I'm using my mini keyboard and it's very hard to type on it. Repost if you can't figure it out. John edit: there's a great tutorial on youtube. -

LCD Monitor & Graphics Card Recommendations?
Thick8 replied to Waverider's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hello Waverider, I've used a 10' projector, 20", 27", 55", and a 3 39" multimonitor setup. The projector was too pixelated. The 20" monitor was WAY too small. The 27" was not bad with headtracking. The 3 39" TVs (with headtracking) is, by far, the best solution for me. I should mention that I use a 22" touchscreen with Helios for my gauges. I use headtracking primarily for the pitch axis and am going to set up the two side monitors in portrait orientation to see what it looks like. I've been following the stereoscopic HMD development for about the last 15 years (I'm a big fan). Oculus Rift may be the answer to all the failed attempts at a viable HMD but I don't think so. Don't get me wrong, it will be cool but it won't take the place of high resolution gaming untill the unit's display screen is capable of at least a 3840x1080 resolution. that won't be for quite some time. I weighed this option prior to purchasing the 3 TVs. I would suggest you try using the 27" that you have. If you have a webcam you can download the shareware headtracking program Facetrack to give yourself a perceived larger FOV. Then you can make a more accurate judgement as to whether or not you want to ask your wife if you can have a 3 screen setup ;) EDIT: I'm using a HIS HD6970 video card clocked at 1000/1500 with an Arctic Cooling ExtremeII cooler. Hope this answer helps. John -
Coby LEDTV3916. I just checked and the price of them on amazon is now $342.20. When I got them they were $299.99 with free shipping.

I have my settings on high with HDR turned off and 2xAA on. I get a solid 30-40 FPS. I changed the view angle to -2 as I don't need to see the anything but the hud. I will often do a ALT+F1 when I'm just flying and then will have about 50 FPS. I'm thinking of chenging out my 1090t CPU for a higher clocking one. My hope is that a 5Ghz CPU will do better than a 3.8Ghz one. the 1090t is a six core CPU. I use a program to set the affinity of the cores because I'm running Facetrack, Teamspeak, Helios, and DCS. I use core 0 for windows "stuff", cores 1 & 2 for DCS, core 3 for Facetrack, core 4 for Helios , and core 5 for teamspeak. I may go with the FX-8350 (8 core)CPU to get 2 more cores but I've read that the FX-6350 (6 core) attains a higher clock rate. Hope this answer helps. John

No, the laptop is for the flight manual and training videos so I can better learn what I'm doing. The main computer is on a seperate shelf behind the middle screen to save space and hide the wires. John

and hidden wires. I built a very inexpensive frame out of PVC and mounted a car seat to it. I screwed PVC end plugs to 1/4" mdf to mount the components. this way they can be removed or moved as needed. All the fittings are secured to the 1-1/2" tubing with four 1" screws per joint (no glue). that way it can be added to or modified. This actually used to be my general aviation chair before I became bored with FSX. The main view is 3 39" Coby 1080p TVs. They are inexpensive ($300) but the insides are all LG components. The dash screen is a 22" Planar touchscreen monitor. It too is inexpensive ($250) as it has a stand out bezel so it can't be sold as a "Windows 8 compatible" monitor. I'm using the FaceTrack open source headtracking software with a homemade 3 point IR-LED clip. I will be incorporating the LED's into my Turtle Beach 5.1 surround sound headset within the next couple of weeks. A very special thanks goes out to gadrock for his excellent Helios progam, to CptLoz for his Helios and monitor config files, and to PeterP for sharing all his vast knowledge and help getting this sim running like it should. thanks for looking, John
