  1. I've priced out the components and came in at right under $300 for me to do it using off the shelf components. I even went as far as buying an Arduino board at RadioShack today to see if i could figure out a less expensive alternative (I'll be returning it tomorrow). I've seen some very impressive examples of these panels in some of the pits here. Anyone have a pair of plug and play(ish) (USB/VGA?) panels to sell in the $450 range? Paypal preferred. Let me know. John
  2. 1.2.7 installed into it's own folder. I've moved all my stuff that I need from the 1.2.6 install into it. Can i delete the original install or do I need to keep it? My 500Gb SSD is gitting kind of crowded.
  3. Nice find on that Nigglascage. I was trying to figure a fix for that myself to no avail.
  4. You can turn off energy management. I wrote a couple of batch files for shut down and reboot, then pinned them to the taskbar. Plus I boot strait to th desktop. I also turned of the annoying charm bars. It's just like running Windows7
  5. You're right, the three screen lua cuts the frame rate in about half. I use Helios with my three screen main view with the viewports on the fourth monitor. The viewports are disabled on the main screen which helps increase frame rate. Make sure you use bezel compensation. I can post my monitor lua file to show you how mine is set up. I'm not at my game rig right now but I'll be in there in about an hour. John
  6. The rift would be more immersive. Yet if they don't raise the resolution to 4K the unit will be still born. I won't play my games at less than 1920x1080 and right now the Oculus has a per eye resolution of 640x720 I think. Word is that will increase but so will the cost. You won't be able to use your controls but the Oculus isn't made for games that you need a bevy of controls. If you watch the trailers it is designed more for FPS or hack and slash a type games. So if you enjoy the tactile feedback of a more expansive physical controller setup you're out of luck. I didn't jump on the Castar wagon yet. I will buy it if they use 1080p projectors though.
  7. Sony's had a stereoscopic HMD for years. The newest one uses HD oled displays. Paired with TIR5 you would probably have a rockin setup. If you'd like to see how un-revolutionary Oculus is go to stereo3d.com. I just hope this one doesn't take the money and run like has happened so many times in the past.
  8. http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/164399-avegant-glyph-a-3dvr-headset-that-beams-the-display-directly-onto-your-retina This is what flight sims need. Crap, put this in the wrong place. Will you please move it to "input and output" admin?
  9. Would it be possible to put the steerpoint and page dials at the bottom of the CDU? It looks like there is enough room.
  10. Do the radios work? I'm using 1.2.5 right now because of all the issues with 1.2.6.
  11. I just bought my wife an Ipad Air. This left her old Ipad available for me to play with. As I already have a 4 screen monitor setup using Eyefinity and CptLoz's Helios profile. I figured "hey a CDU would be cool". So I purchased this software; and you know what? IT ROCKS!!! Now I don't have to buy a separate touchscreen monitor. Thanks border2.
  12. I can't seem to find a post I saw a couple of weeks ago. The OP used a couple of 4" long dowels and some sheet metal to modify his regular Saitek pedals into something more like the combat flavor pedals. Anyone have that link? John
  13. I wasn't aware that doing an ALT + F1 left the MFD on the main screen as I have the MFD and such ported to my touchscreen.
  14. Just hit "alt + F1" to toggle the cockpit.
  15. I noticed that you have to choose between 4 possible boards. I assume that means you can ony hook up a total of 4. Is this correct? Does Windows see it as a joystick so I can assign functions in the DCS options? I don't think I will need hat and axis functions as I have both pedals and a TM:WH. Can these functions be remapped as digital outputs? So many questions... John
  16. Hi Guys, they're getting the CNC machine hooked up at the school where I teach. so I was thinking about making a couple of panels. Has anyone used this type of interface board? http://www.desktopaviator.com/Products/Model_2230/index.htm It looks pretty much plug and play. I have no desire to spend a bunch of time setting up several Arduino boards if I can use one 31 button board for several panel inputs. what do you think? John
  17. Thanks for your help but that didn't do it. A couple of things I didn't mention; I have the cockpit zoom programmed to the "friction wheel" on my TM:WH and I use Facetrack for my headtracking. Could one of those be interfering with the view? My goal is to have a wide FOV when zoomed out and then zoom in during attack runs. Is there a way to adjust the zoom feature? EDIT: I just did a search for zoom and found a post by TheThumper. I guess I was trying to control the wrong thing when I was playing with the FOV. What I needed to do was set the zoom limits. With a vAngle of 4.0 I set the zoom limits to CameraViewAngleLimits = {125.000000,160.000000}, Now I can zoom out to my actual FOV, zoom in to the middle slider detent for normal view, and all the way in is zoomed in on the HUD (old eyes ya know). Thanks again for your help. I was just asking the wrong question. John
  18. Great link. Where do I pick this filter up? Is it just regular 35mm film?
  19. Hi Guys, I fly the A-10c I am able to change the viewpoint using the settings in view #13 in the snapview.lua file. But when I change the FOV nothing changes. I'd like to change it to 133 deg. to match my actual FOV. Thanks, John
  20. got it figured out. very cool. Unfortunately it would seem that i can't play my FPS's with the screens set up I this configuration. Funny thing is that I was able to do the same thing using no extra software and a couple of changes in the monitor .lua file. I'm going to play with it some more to see if I can get it working in CS:GO and L4D2. I hopeful. John
  21. I currently use a 3 screen (3*1920x1080) landscape configuration with a seperate 1920x1080 Helios monitor. I was thinking of changing the outside monitors to a portrait orientation as the screens are pretty big. I want the screens to line up at the top with the outide monitors extending down further than the middle screen. Does anyone have this type of configuration that can share their relevent softTH and .lua fles with me? Thanks. John edit: would this be right with 78 pixels between the main monitors? 22. I second that. I've been holding off my upgrade (it's been hard). I'm hoping EDGE will use some more of my 6 core cpu. If it also supports crossfire/SLI then I can get away with just adding another 6970. John
  23. A visible light filter can be made from an unused 3.5" floppy disk. Just break it open and cut a piece of the disk thhat is inside the case and use that. That way the only thing your camera will see is IR light. I have my camera mounted on the top of my monitor with a -20 angle. Here's a link to some pics. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=109693&highlight=pvc John
  24. The problem you are having is that you have to make so many adjustments to the camera and FT to make the camera see something it is made to block out. An modified inexpensive 60 FPS camera will serve you much better if you plan on using FT. I use a 30 FPS Quickcam Comunicate STX. There are several on Ebay for about $5. It was easy to modify and works very well. John
