  1. Does anyone know if DirectX 11 + Edge will be compatible with Vista64 and Windows 7 ? From what I have read, Edge is being worked on to be compatible with DirectX 11... although I thought DirectX 12 was about to be released? Seems to me that DCS is somewhat behind the curve here? When in multiplayer, near airports or other craft... my fps sinks to 4 or 5 fps making it unusable. I have a AMD HD7950, quad core CPU and 8Gb ram... all other games/sims I use are maxed out; its just DCS that sinks :( I just hope DirectX 11 and Edge can save my ar... fps IJammer
  2. I read in the Mr. Mason book... 'Chickenhawk' (a must read, if you have not already) where a crew cheif slung a spare rotor blade under a Huey 'end on'... it started to oscillate when air-borne, swung up... and then destroyed the ship. If I remember correctly the resulting crash killed the crew as well! :( Thankfully we only have to hit the 'ESC' key... and yes, the sling loads are good fun with the DCS Huey, great work guys :) IJammer
  3. Just purchased a 120mm extension from Adam, excellent quality and fast/free delivery (in the UK). I had in fact just finished making a 110mm extension myself, but Adam's is far superior in quality... still, I can go to 230mm extension now if I desire by joining the two together :) I may try that later... but I will probably be wiping the cockpit of the helo LOL If you have a TM Warthog, esp with a helo, you just got have this mod.... :)
  4. Hi I have had a bit of fun on-line in the VA server... not sure if this is supposed to work like this, but when a downed pilot from a fixed wing plane is wandering around on the ground after bailing out... if you nudge the Huey up close to him you can collect him on your skids (he sticks), you can then take him for a ride (rescue?). I have done this a few times and it may well be a bug (a good one). However, I have also lost a few pilots where they have come 'unstuck' at several thousand feet and, well... its not a happy ending for them LOL The 'slick' side of the Huey could be expanded... the sling-load, cargo and personnel carrying is moving in the right direction... not everyone just wants to shoot things up :) The DCS -VA server has sling-loads available @ Minorvailvody if you want to try your luck/skill (note, absolutely NO weapons use allowed) http://www.virtual-aerobatics.com/forum/ IJammer
  5. With V. 1.2.8 it sort of works... and I have used it several times on the VA server on multi-player. Although it still seems to play havoc with the physics... esp. if you try a screen save . I think the lag involved with the screen save catches it out or maybe something to do with the memory leakage problem on multi-player? I had one instance where the sling load was hanging vertically under the Huey, going in a straight line at a modest 30 knots and the ship just wrecked and plummeted to ground LOL. Great concept though, but still needs a few minor adjustments me thinks. IJammer
  6. I have not read up on what the 1.28 update entailed... did we get the 'Edge' GFX engine (64bit) or is that still in the pipe-line?
  7. Yup, thanks for the latest mega upgrade guys... and for DCS. So many toys to play with; using the Huey, P51 and A-10C at the moment. We need a mod to extend the hours in a day, 24 is not enough :) IJammer (Virtual Aerobatics/1st Cav)
  8. I had a similar problem after the 1.28 upgrade... it seems mine was trying to load two copies of DCS at the same time. I tried the CNTRL/ALT/DEL and remove one copy, but it steadfastly refused to dump the DCS in memory. I had to re-boot the PC (leave it off for a few minutes to flush the memory). Once re-booted it loaded okay. Hope this helps. IJammer
  9. Yup... the Huey is a beast. More fun than you can shake a stick at :) I had a whale of time flying the Huey on the Virtual Aerobatics server tonight. I have played shoot'em ups, sim-car racing and fixed wing (P51 & A-10)... but this Huey is just too fantastic for words. Definitely have to up-grade my PC to squeeze every last ounce of fun out of this baby.
  10. Vista 64bit... people slag Vista off, however, I can't say I have ever had a problem with it. Granted W7 may be more efficient and W7 will be my next OS on a new build. Anyone know if M$ have plans to cease retailing W7 in favour of the tablet OS (W8?

    UH-IH Huey

Thanks for the head-up Guys... really appreciated. Unfortunately I don't get as much time as I would wish for so have to cram what I can in. Anyhow, some really useful info here. :) IJammer

    UH-IH Huey

OK, I normally fly fixed wing, but in a moment of weakness (Black Friday deal) I purchased the Huey. There seems to be no section in this forum for the Huey? Anyhow, I d/loaded the optional Huey training files, loaded up the start procedures from the pad... however, that only goes as far as starting the generators, fuel feeds and battery etc. but then stops just as I expect it to give guidance on starting the engines/rotors? :helpsmilie: Can anyone give a pointer on where to look for some good Huey tutorials for a complete rotatory newbie... :joystick: I tried choosing the option to begin with the engines/rotors running, however, within about .25 of a second the rotors sheer off just leaving the drive shaft? I obviously have a control set wrong somewhere (Warthog controller + Thrustmaster Pro rudders). Any help appreciated. IJammer
  13. Yup... all you DCS junkies that can't wait have been knocking the hell out of the update servers. :joystick: :) I waited... went and got the kids some food (why do they keep wanting that?). Anyhow, just finished the update, downloaded @220Kb, took about 1hr 20mins (my bad internet connection). All my original input and graphics settings preserved  Tried accessing the multiplayer, all ok. A quick flight round Potomi in the P51... all ok. :pilotfly: Well done ED, apart from the original overload problems for the update servers... all worked ok. IJammer
  14. Is DCS processong light refraction? Impressive.
  15. I read on another thread that the 'hash' error is when the d/load server overloads, it then kicks some clients off resulting in a 'hash' error. From what I read you can just re-start the updater from the DCS folder and it will kick in again and continue where it left off. I am holding off until the rush is over...
  16. Point taken on the physics processing taken place with DCS pacotito... perhaps comparing iRacing with DCS is not a fair comparison. So what you are saying... is that the bottleneck with DCS is the CPU and not the GFX processor? So if my GFX is telling me my FPS has dropped from +60 to about 10... is that the GFX card not coping or the CPU struggling to refresh it with usable data? It also appears that DCS is using the HDD as a swap file from what others are saying by recommending a SSD. Hmmm, time for an upgrade or just go race car simming :) Thanks for your thoughts on this guys... I am somewhat more enlightened :chair: IJammer
  17. Well... I must be imagining all the problems people are having installing the 1.2.4 update with the multitude of posts and proposed work-arounds on here! Well, granted iRacing is not looking at such a large virtual world, but a screen can only display one portion of that at any given time and the DCS graphic FPS fails on the close up detail stuff... iRacing holds up? Now I understand that DCS is using an antiquated 32bit GFX engine and can only utilise one core of a quad core CPU (64bit)... so perhaps it will improve when the 64bit 'Edge' graphics engine is utilised... I certainly hope so. I have a quad core 64bit CPU, 8Gb ram, 650 watt PSU and a 7950 GFX card with 3Gb DDR5 ram and still DCS is dropping down to 10FPS... <wot> Not exactly top of the tree spec, but it should cook DCS better than what I am getting with low to middle graphics options selected!
  18. Updating DCS seems like a major headache... I just can't understand why it is so complicated and involves so many procedures. Ok for PC literate bods, but not all of us have degrees in computer studies! I also use iRacing, a subscription based race car sim... they do regular updates; some of them quite large (the last one was 3Gb). When you enter the simulator splash screen the first page has a warning box telling you that you can't race until you have updated the sim... 'Press to Update' That's all you have to do... press a button and then give the updater permission (Windows OS) to continue. Why can't DCS do that? Perhaps ED needs to go see how they do it. I also get +84 FPS locked solid with iRacing... DCS drops to 10 FPS sometimes... brilliant flight sim, but something wrong here? :(
  19. I have put DCS back in its box and will not even try to d/load until the rush is over. I have a very poor internet connection where I am anyway... so I will wait. Also, did I read on the header to this thread something about changing the text in the updater file to make it work? D'oh, this is all very disapointing! :(
  20. Having had a dab at In-flight refueling in the Batumi Virtual Aerobatics server... and failed miserably, I thought you guys might want to see a youtube vid to see how it should be done and how easy peasy it really is! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pd5BMP_41bI%26rel%3d0%26hl%3den_US%26feature%3dplayer_embedded%26version%3d3 There you go... if a dumb-arse bird can do it, why is it so hard.... :pilotfly: IJammer
  21. A confused newbie... Aghhh, I thought the issue with my poor FPS with DCS was with my relatively average PC gear... i.e. down to 8 FPS in some sections esp with the P51 prop running on a high 'G' turn... I also get screen 'atrifacts' as well in that situation; I have spent some time playing with the GFX settings in DCS and modded the graphics.gfx to limit to 40 FPS :( On other games I don't have a GFX problem! I also use iRacing... a race car sim, and get in access of 80FPS with some very fast 3D sceneary shifting, so whats going on here with DCS... do we have a corrupted GFX engine? Shame as the sim is outstanding apart from the graphics/FPS side. I ask myself if spending a $1000 on a PC upgrade will fix the problem? IJammer
  22. Thanks Blaze, just purchased the P51 and was having trouble starting the engine. After following your checklist it starts most every time now  I can also taxi around fairly successfully now even if I can't see whats in front of this tail dragger I just have to master the take off and landings now :joystick: ...50% of the time on take off, I get to about 10/20ft off the runway, then the plane pulls to the left (despite rudder adjustment and stick pulled to the right), it inverts, then nose dives to the ground! I suspect my throttle setting may be wrong? I am not sure weather I should be giviing it the gun or holding back more... I try to keep the manifold pressure between 40-50... is that to much on take off? Perhaps its just a matter of getting the right feel for what is right. Great plane though, really nice to fly this P51 sim... I can appreciate the work thats gone into making this work. Great job, thanks guys. IJammer
  23. LOL... ok, so how do the new breed of lady combat pilots deal with that problem I wonder? I would need a fire hose of course! :D
  24. Thanks for the addional info on the pic, looks like most of you guys have seen it before. I will follow the othe links. They say that the weapons engineer was trying to fit the gun in his VW... \O/ He would need some kinda shoe-horn for that! :) I have a decomissioned 30mm round here on the table in front of me... you would not want to be on the wrong end of that beastie...
  25. Ok, view the original post again and you should see the JPG... pity I can't upload the whole artical... its very interesting.
