  1. Windoz Vista 64... still works OK for me.
  2. UH-1 Heading Home UH-1 Heading Home
  3. I ran the 1.5.2 stable version today and successfully upgraded to 1.5.3... the updater used a mix of borrowing already downloaded files from my beta and alpha versions + torrent. So far no issues, although the first time I started 1.5.3 did take some time to load. My PC: Vista64, Intel Q6666, 8Gb DDR2, HD7950 3Gb DDR5 and a 480Gb SSD. My system runs dx11, I get 40 - 60fps... on medium GFX settings. I am most impressed how well DCS runs (esp on MP) on what is quite an old spec system. Congrats to ED on keeping the flag flying for lower spec machines...
  4. You could try checking your windows keyboard mapping... differant ascii codes are used for different mappings. At worst, plug in another legacy KB and use a standard mapping such as England or USA. Also note that from default DCS will map the same action to several controllers (J/stick, rudder pedals, mouse and keyboard etc). It is advised to go through them and re-assign them to just one action... i.e. rudder to you rudder pedals and j/stick to your cyclick etc. Try to avoid duplicates, it just confuses the input controllers.
  5. They are using non-reflective glass and Windolene to clean it :smilewink:
  6. How about... Area 51 having a few aliens hidden here and there? Great fun for the rotor heads to go look for? Or perhaps an alien craft flying through the area at mach 4... then see if some of you boys in your super sonic jets can catch them and take them down? :pilotfly: But of course the USAF claims there are no aliens... however, in the DCS virtual world... :music_whistling:
  7. You won't find any... Bob Mason has them all lel
  8. Thanks for this Stuka, looks to be a major asset ^ I will send you an orange for Xmas; us Huey jocks are from the cheap side of town ;-)
  9. Very true... I have a 10cm ext tube on my HOTAS Warthog stick. You can also play with curves in the controller settings to shallow out the stick reaction... although at the moment I don't use any.
  10. I find that using the cyclic depends on the position of the Huey with relation to the landing spot... you certainly don't want to be pulling back on the cyclic to far as approach touch down unless you are using it to back your speed off, then level off or you will be taking the rear rotor off! It also depends if you are using any trim... some pilots seldom if ever use trim; I must admit I use it quite a lot... so my cyclic is almost in a center position when I land; unless I need to do a small correction to re-position over the landing spot. Really... it all comes down to 'feel' and practice, practice, practice :) As you get better at it and the 'feel' improves you can start to take liberties... :)
  11. Yup, I had a great deal of trouble with that transition/vortex thing with the Huey. As CiBit suggests keep your VSI between 0 and 5 m/s and be ready to haul up on the collective before you sink through the hole and crash. Watching the VSI is vital... I also found that a certain amount of forward speed and a circle into the landing area helps; it eases you through the transition spot with less pain until you have a handle on it and can then land from a hover. This to me though is what makes the Huey such a joy. :) Winged pilots eat your heart out :) Dave (IJammer)
  12. Well, I know people say that about Vista (64), but I must admit I have had no trouble at all with it in five years... I skinned it down a bit by taking some of the crud out that M$ had installed by default (why do software people insist that you have their little gems by default!)... with my sisters laptop (win10) it took me ages to find the ruddy desktop icon among all the clutter on the splash screen! Probably after a couple of hours playing with it I would get the hang of it... but with XP, Vista and Win7 I know my way around pretty well. :) Dave (IJammer)
  13. DCS has an amazing helo sling-load implementation that I have had a great deal of fun with (esp. the UH-1 Huey); but check out this real-world pilot putting us all to shame! Also, who would be a real-world rigger... sod that for a job! :shocking: https://www.youtube.com/embed/qJHlXe_RnYo Enjoy, Dave (IJammer)
  14. Vista 64... upgraded from W10 ^
  15. I believe not... only goes back to W7 for the free upgrade... not sure I would want W10 anyhow, I thought that was tablet software? My sister has a laptop with W10 and I find it almost impossible to use! W7 would be nice though :) However, I have been told in the past that Vista 64 will run anything that W7 can... but not quite as good! They stuck a lot of extra crap in Vista that most people did not want. As my Vista 64 is running with DX11 and my CPU is a quad core... I am hoping it will work with DCS 2.0 and NTTR. I have everything crossed :) IJammer
  16. OK, thanks for the reply's. I did think that my Vista 64 was running DX11... so I went and checked with 'dxdiag', and yes, DX11 is installed. I also believe that most modern GFX cards will process DX11 graphics anyhow. I have bitten the bullet and pre-purchased NTTR at the special offer price (I will need one day) I will report back if NTTR runs or not on my Vista 64 (some people may want to upgrade to Vista :) ) Beta 1.5 has made a dramatic difference to my DCS... I am now getting three times the frame rate and my HD7950 GFX is at long last having to pull its weight :) Hopefully, next year I can build a new PC to do DCS full justice.
  17. Hi I noticed that the DCS World 2 and NTTR thread is closed? Anyhow, I was going to pre-purchase the NTTR module in readiness for DCS World 2... I went to the modules purchase page and noticed that the 'minimum' specification lists the OS as 7,8 and 10... (64) some of the modules list Vista, 7, 8 and 10 as minimum specifications... am I to assume that NTTR will not run with a Vista 64 PC ? I built my PC just before W7 became available... it has a P45 socket and an Intel Q666 CPU @ 3.2Mhz, 8Gb of DDR2 and an HD7950 gfx (3Gb DDR5). Not the highest of specs I know... However it runs the DCS World beta 1.5 on medium gfx setting @ 60 - 100 FPS and rarely drops below 40 FPS in multiplayer; depends on the server and how many toys are employed and how many other users there are. So, again... can I safely pre-purchase NTTR and will it run with my older Vista 64 based system? :pilotfly: Dave (IJammer)
  18. None Beta update - DCS World 2 Has their been a proposed DCS World 2 (stable) version release date been announced yet? I can't see any mention in the DCS main menu screen 'news items' about this. Thanks...
  19. Yup me too... I normally have 4x2Gb (8Gb) DDR2 but for some reason my system will only boot now with 2x2Gb (4Gb total)... sods law eh! just as 1.5 hits the street. Some peeps need to remember that we are not all running i7s with 16Gb+ of ram. It only seemed like yesterday when I upgraded my PC (probably some years ago), but it is obviously in need again. Sims need deep pockets LOL
  20. I have the left throttle arm on my Warthog designated as the UH-1 throttle, however, every time I start the Huey it refuses to activate until I roll the 'mouse wheel' or use the 'Page up/down' keys while moving the Warthog throttle until it 'catches'! After that it works just fine... I can then use the 'home' key to start the UH-1 to full RPM. Weird. IJammer
  21. I have several modules... but mainly use the Huey now which is brilliant. I will probably not be buying any more modules until the Direct X 11 and Edge is instigated to hopefully cure the diabolical FPS issues with DCS. I feel that ED should be throwing all their efforts into getting the graphics engine up to speed rather than just keep adding modules into a floored graphics engine.
  22. Blimy akki, with all that gear it would be cheaper to buy a real plane LOL :pilotfly:
  23. Asus HD7950... with 3Gb DDR, $500 GFX and it runs like a dog with DCS, i.e. 4-5 fps when near airports or other craft, makes multiplayer a slide show :( Nearly impossible to control the Huey! :( All other games/sims... maxed out with +60fps. Something wrong here somewhere? Where is Edge?
  24. Emmm, sorry I amended that question, I meant Vista64, Windows 7 and the forthcoming Edge? I understand DirectX 11 is soon to be replaced with DirectX 12 ? (windows 8)
