Looking great! The skinning and canopy make a lot of difference! Keep up the fantastic work Calum

Nice find DM. Agree with you on and the best I've seen also. Thanks.
-
Fantastic. Simply fantastic. And to be almost done? That would be incredible, especially with how good yours looks! I will be so elated when mine is almost done. Even when I am though, I feel it will never be "done." I'm sure there will always be something to do or tweak or change. But good on ya. You should be proud of your work.

Nice canopy handle, Boltz! Is that a ping-pong ball? Oh yeah, wanted to ask before but forgot, just curious how you mounted your switch caps to the switches. Keep up the great work!
-
Wow! Nice work! Very impressed. Very nice write up also. Please keep us updated. :)

Yes, it's looking great Boltz! As you know, I'm starting my V2. We'll all get there someday. ;) That is, if we don't keep going back and redoing it over and over. :D

If somebody is curious how warping and blending is done - timelapse

Wow. Nice. Want to come to the states and set one up? You know, as a demo to show people? :D J/K of course, but I think I'd like to eventually use a projector setup. I'm currently building version 2 of my pit, so when I get that done this is something I'd like to think about. Thanks for the quick vid. -
OK DM, let's hear some more about the brandy! :D You and viruses have just not gotten along lately. Get well soon. I'll send you a couple pics from either the Queen's or King's parade during Mardi Gras, whichever one we decide to go to. Maybe both! ;) You know, just to cheer you up. It'll be good to get out of the snow we're getting here in New England. It's getting old.
-
Yep Hans. My thoughts exactly. You learn a lot with "version 1" but the real Magic will happen with 2. ;)
-
Very very nice. Can't wait. You have really put a lot of work into this. It will be worth every cent.

I have a lot of old iOS devices. An old iPad, couple of old iPhones, and probably three or more iPod Touches. Curious to know if anyone has used, or even thought about, any ways to incorporate them into the pit? Yes, I have and have used iControl DCS, iWarthogHD, yawc, and tapCheck. (Which in my opinion is brilliant, but underutilized and not often talked about.) I was thinking more on the lines of the smaller devices, though, and if they could be used somehow and where. I just got my 4" monitor working for the CDU, so that's taken care of. Is there any way to perhaps put and keep the moving map on one? Or perhaps a permanent display of the radio communications menu? I think that would be pretty cool to just be able to touch it and not have to keep going to the keyboard and scroll through menu choices just to have ground power hooked up or whatever. Anyway, no big deal, just thinking out loud if anyone has successfully used an old device in this fashion.

Gadroc, in my opinion, the work you've done with HELIOS and other things has always been outstanding, appreciated, and without it, I don't think I would have ever started building my pit. I have no questions, no demands or requests, I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Doing this for the community will hopefully be a major milestone for the ultimate goal of a perfectly functioning pit without a lot of tearing out hair and, more than once, questioning my sanity and giving up. I've always been a supporter, both monetarily and admirer. I don't have much in the way of being a coder, but if you ever need anything that I can help with, I'd be more than happy to do so. Ultimately, I guess I'm just saying thank you for all you've done.

Just saw this. Listen to the sound of that beautiful GAU-8 If video not working, try this. http://theaviationist.com/2014/12/07/video-shows-a-10-iraq/?relatedposts_hit=1&relatedposts_origin=31165&relatedposts_position=2

Well, all good intentions and all that. Pain's a funny thing. Oh yeah, I have all this time now, I can plan all this other stuff! Yeah. Then you don't feel like doing a damn thing. Oh well, hopefully it'll all be better by Mardis Gras! Thanks again for the plans.

It looks fantastic. If there's one thing you are DM, it's talented and patient. Nice work.

Thanks Gadroc, looks great. One of the reasons I was looking into this now is MakerShed just released this particular monitor that looked nice. The outside dimensions are 235 (H) X 143 (V) X 5.2 (D) (9.25"x5.6"x0.20") I see the AT090TN10 is 211.1(W)×126.5(H)×5.9(D) (8.3"x5"x0.24") so both look to be pretty good alternatives. (As an aside, you wouldn't happen to have dxf files of the other bezels for the MIP would you? Is that asking too much? It was just a thought. ;) I'd even go so far as the MIP itself, but from what I've seen so far, it doesn't look like anyone has anything on the MIP that includes the stanchions at the top to take into account the glareshield mounting. Gus has a picture on his site that shows what I'm talking about, but it's on an "A" version, and unfortunately, his site is sometimes a hit or miss concerning if it's up or not.) Either way, thanks again and your always an inspiration.

That would be exactly what I'm looking for! Thank you! Please do

Well, a couple days ago after an unfortunate, stupid accident at home, I am laid up on the couch unable to work on the pit. a definite drag. I figure now would be the perfect opportunity to try and learn and work on figuring out all the Arduino stuff. Unfortunately, I'm due to travel to New Orleans for Mardis Gras, so I'm hoping it'll be all better by then!! It will also give me a little more time before I start to cut other MIP panel, just in case there are any more accurate drawings or dimensions happen to show up while I wait. :D Lately it just feels like the more I try to work on my pit, the less gets done. This happen to anyone else, or is it just me? Luckily, a lot of really really good things have been happening lately, especially in regards to the interface and Arduino. One last question. Has anyone been able to source an LCD monitor that would just fit the ADI and HSI. Since I'm planning on remaking the MIP anyway, and wanting to make the other instruments analog, that's one of the last obstacles I'm facing.

Major Announcement: New software to to connect panels to DCS
MacFevre replied to FSFIan's topic in Home Cockpits
You know Ian, many have tried doing this. A few have even made something operational. But you are one of the very very few that have not only put something out there and not only made it usable for us Arduino ignorant, but have supported it all the way and constantly improving it. I just wanted to personally thank you for that. If Boltz has said that he will begin using it over his own A2DCS, than you know it has to be good! I wish you would take something for your own personal hard work with this. I know it's a collaboration, but you are the public face and very active in not only answering questions, but wanting to make it better. So if there is anything we as a group that uses this, or I in particular, can do for you, please, just ask. -
Ebay Listings: Well I hate to say it, as it would take me a lot of soul searching to lay out that kind of cash, but It's probably worth that amount easily. Deadman's always saying that this stuff is worth it , and it took me a long time to believe it. But if you think about it, you could easily pay $100 or so for the little instruments and more for the ADI and HSI. Plus they have two for some of them. Heck, I've probably got at least that amount in, unfortunately. Not that I could lay that put all at once or agree with the price, but you could do a lot worse making it yourself.

Welcome back! Looking great.

What DM said! I mean, wow. Precision work. I can't remember if I've ever looked at the wet compass while I was flying the A-10, but with this, I don't think I could keep my eyes from it! Peter, can I just come over to your house and just watch you work? ;) Oh! You ought to set up online classes. That would be cool! :D :worthy:

Major Announcement: New software to to connect panels to DCS
MacFevre replied to FSFIan's topic in Home Cockpits
This is really incredible. Thank you so much for your hard work! Really time for me to get off my butt waiting for a solution to start hooking up my boards. A shame about the non-donation thing, but if you ever formalize a group, please accept something in return. Seriously, again, thank you. Hope to get started today or tomorrow! -
Weeb, I don't mean to hijack your thread so I'll keep it short. But since Warhog posted his Flickr link here, I just wanted to say, @Warhog, I am bowing, humbled before you. Your instruments, I just don't know what to say! They are simply magnificent! If there is anyone more adept at what you've accomplished, I certainly haven't heard. I think we all would be more than honored if you started your own thread. Seriously, just looking at them, they're awe inspiring! But if you could combine that with a little of your knowledge and direction, that would really be the missing link between a pit with merely a flat panel behind it and a true professional simulator. As an aside, you've given me great information about CNCs and the like, but I don't think I could ever come close to your ability. I know I personally would be first in line if you ever hung up a shingle. Please think about it. You know, for us that have been struggling for years between want, knowledge, and actually having. Ok, sorry again. Back to the previously scheduled thread belonging here.

Hey Boltz. Happy holidays, btw. Not sure about the UK, you try Mouser? I've gotten from allelectronics before. You could try making your own. You can even get just the connectors at something local like radio shack. If you can wait a week or so I have a lot of cable I could send you. I bought an entire spool of it at a junk shop for under $10.
