I was just wondering: anyone knows what is the issue here with the IR missiles in multiplayer? It seems that IR missiles suffer heavily from some sort of desync or what ever is causing them to go dumb from even 2km away. As the video shows, SARHs don't have this issue. https://imgur.com/iQauJ00https://i.imgur.com/iQauJ00.mp4

I am no expert, but I highly doubt that IRL anyone uses flaps while dogfighting, but I could be wrong also. When it comes to DCS: flaps provide "extra" lift for a cost of additional drag. For example, if you reach critical Angle of Attack in clean configuration, this means that you can't "pull" any more for the current airspeed. Flaps allow you to increase lift and your stall speed is then decreased. Practically, you would want to use flaps in situations where you are trying to perform a quick and hard turn at low speed, but only temporary. Like on top portion of rolling scissors for example, or while performing a defensive spiral.

Actually @dundun92, the missile was going correctly initially, from my point at least, 'cause I have notched it. I have no idea at what point it decided to track and why.

The second AIM-54C is even greater comedy: this one seemed to have a little kamikaze gremlin in side of it and decided to "zoom and boom". https://imgur.com/LH5IuARhttps://imgur.com/LH5IuAR https://imgur.com/LH5IuARhttps://i.imgur.com/LH5IuAR.mp4

It seems that AIM-54C has no gimbals limits. In the engagement below you can see that it actually performed "flat scissors" (literally) maneuver and the only reason why I dodged it, is 'cause it ran out of energy. Three times it managed to re-acquire me. Can anyone enlighten me on how this is possible? https://imgur.com/nSO5qdChttps://i.imgur.com/nSO5qdC.mp4

Yup, that' correct. Can't remember if the 29 suffers from the same issue.

I've noticed something very strange in MP when using R-27T in the front hemisphere: the LA is delayed until 8-10km or so from the target for some reason and it comes way after the R-73 LA comes. Quite strange. I could override it, but that's not something I would like to do on regular basis. I don't have a DCS track, but I can share a TacView recording if required.

MASSIVE fps drop after update to 2.7
Cmptohocah replied to flankerjun's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Looks like I shot my self in the foot here. After installing the Microsoft's Spy OS (Win10) and doing a fresh copy of DCS (my old installation was really old, possibly even the first version which was updated constantly), the game is smooth as butter. Much faster in every regard to my previous 2.5.6 installation Frankenstein. i5 4960K Asus Z-97 Pro Gamer 24GB DDR3 GTX 1660 Super Samsung Evo 1TB SSD -
This actually makes sense, I always considered STT much more "precise" let's say compared to TWS. You loose the "precision", but gain multi target engagement.
-
Ah I see. Shame that ECM doesn't really make a difference in DCS, or am I wrong? I mean regarding this topic.
-
So aparently AIM-9 can be launched from 20-25km by usind TWS, so I was just wondering what black magic is involved there? Why did the Soviets bother with developing EOS when radars can be used to slave IR missiles just like EOS does? Thanks in advance!

Technically I think this is more of an exploit, rather than cheating but on the other hand there is no option to program the CM in FC3, so macros are the next best thing.
-
Didn't try out 2.7 yet. I fly red side almost exclusively and I can tell you that I have had my fare share of Slammers :D Anything within 25km is damn hard to evade without going completely defensive. Compared to R-27 which has no loft (still talking about 2.5), much higher drag and which can easily be defeated by mere diving and/or chaff, AMRAAM is a laser. Dunno how the Alamo performs after the latest update.

This is one of the things about DCS that teally grinds my gears. Instead of implementing RL systems and behaviours, we have a sim that is being driven by "political correctness" and user's delicate feelings. Just curious: why would the SPO-15 not detect an 120? Also why should it fail to show signal strength?
-
To all the people that think AIM-120 sucks: please try scoring a kill with an R-27 and you will soon realize that AMRAAM does not suck. It's a very deadly missile and avoiding it is no easy business.

Could someone explain to me what is the relationship between lift-induced drag and speed loss (non-motor burning part of the missile flight). In order to turn, the missile needs some sort of force to create a change in flight path. This force is achieved by increasing AoA which in turn produces additional lift. Is there any clear relationship between this added drag force and kinetic energy loss? What I am getting at is: will a missile that pulls certain amount of G in a turn, have more/less/same speed loss than a fighter that is pulling exactly the same G? Thrust is to be ignored.

From what I know, IR seekers in DCS see only three possible states: 1. engine/s OFF 2. engine/s ON 3. afterburner/s ON This means that practically there is no difference between idle and full military power when it comes to IR tracking in DCS.
-
Track?
-
One thing I always wondered: does a Doppler radar need any shift in frequency to track a target against a clear background, like the sky for example?
-
If only "those" Soviets could build a "decent" missile, oh wait...

MASSIVE fps drop after update to 2.7
Cmptohocah replied to flankerjun's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Yes, I got the same answer from ED staff. This is fine in theory, but for someone that exclusively flies in multiplayer, like me, it means that I can basically forget about flying DCS at this point as most servers went with the latest beta. -
reported AIM-120C losing targets easily for chaff even at close ranges
Cmptohocah replied to Comrade Doge's topic in Weapon Bugs
If we are talking about two downed MiG-29As by "Claw" and his wingman, the Fulkrum pilot did not go for a notch but rather tried to evade the oncoming AMRAAMS as he saw the smoke, or should I say contrails, coming their way. He was "pulling" for his life and that first STT AMRAAM missed. -
Why does it matter if you are notching the launching platform's radar or not? If you are blind to the missiles seeker it's not gonna track you, regardless of the DL updates. Airplane: "Hey AMRAAM the target is there." 120: "Where? I don't see it" Airplane: "Move a bit to the left, it's right there." 120: "Ok, I moved but I can't find it." Airplane: "I still see it, go a bit to the right." 120: "Cool, I did that, but where's the target?"

MASSIVE fps drop after update to 2.7

Well I guess that's it for me and DCS. No more Win7 and FPS drops - we had a good time over the years.
