  1. Okay, so I'm totally incompetent when it comes to computer hardware. The limit of my experience is changing out a video card from a computer that was already built for me. I wouldn't DARE try to change out a processor. And since I'm now looking to upgrade, I need some advice on just what to get.:helpsmilie: I've got: AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 8700 Nvidia graphics card (512mb) 2 gigs or ram (not sure how many sticks of memory that is. I'd like to upgrade my processor, but I'm wondering what the biggest bang for my buck would be. My computer is approx. two years old. Will I have to get a new mother board? Since I see that graphics cards are so cheap should I upgrade now? Wait? I don't even know if the 8700 card that I have is any good. Also: Should I take my computer into a store to have these things installed or would I be competent (given adequate instruction by some of you guys) to install all of this by myself? Also also: If you have suggestions on which processor/motherboard/video card I should get, could you give me a link? Also also also: I don't have a sound card at the moment. Do you think I need one to get the best performance? I don't have 5.1 speakers for my computer or anything so should I bother with a high end sound card? Okay...To sum it up, I've got about 1k usd to play with...So how should I use it? Thanks for any advise/help from people in-the-know. Hopefully I can get this upgrade while I've still got the money and I'll have something that can handle DCS: BS really well when it comes out...:pilotfly:
  2. @ Canada: You saying you can't see the art on that box?
  3. Just tried to read through four pages of techno-babble...Sooooo confusing to me. I think I might have actually GAINED a few brain cells from reading this... My take on graphics cards: Step one - Walk into a computer store. Step two - Find a nerd/knowitall. Step three - Say, "Which one of these fancy art-filled boxes is the best?" Step four - Go home with fancy art-filled box and ask squadmates what to do next...
  4. Neg: It's the apache and THEN the hog I thought?
  5. Still: They are not as EASY to see as at night. Tracers may be observed during the day, but they are very dull and easy to miss unless it's a rather bright (ap or heavy caliber) round.
  6. Funny how the first three guys were pretending to be on patrol (in the middle of a heavily defended airbase).:megalol: ...Airforce guys...If they ain't fighter pilots then they're pretending to be grunts lol. People like that crack me up. Trying to pretend to be hardcore so they can mail pictures back to their folks and say, "Look, ma! I'm doing something DANGEROUS!":D
  7. As many as the server can handle or that you've put into the mission...Just like lock on.
  8. Hekktor is joking, I'm sure...Unless he isn't...In which case: LOL!!!!
  9. Lol. My wife will watch youtube for hours-on-hours-on-end until I pry her off the keyboard. Definitely something to look into.
  10. As it stands right now it will probably be VERY similar to how lockon works until they get the new engine up and running with new multiplayer code...
  11. Well if she has other friends, you could get her (and hopefully them) interested in an outdoor hobby. My mother is 60-ish and enjoys hiking on the weekends with her friends. If she likes sports, you could get her to volunteer as an assistant coach for soccer/football (same thing if you're not in the US) for kids. As for my wife and I, I'm pretty much like you...Except when I'm in the middle of my "leave me alone" time she thinks it's fun to come over and tickle me or put her hands over my eyes or give me a wet whillie or distract me in some other way...that wouldn't be decent to say on this forum...All while I'm in the middle of being shot at. It's never right when I'm taking off, or after I've headed back and am about to land. ALWAYS while I am being shot at. Sometimes when I'm playing and she's in the room or in the kitchen and she hears me say something like, "Man, that was crazy," to my friends...she'll yell out, "NO! YOU'RE CRAZY!" ...It doesn't matter what I say. I could say, "Should we head back and land?" and she'll scream at the top of her lungs from the other room, "NO! YOU'RE GOING TO GO BACK AND LAND!" She then proceeds to die laughing. Sometimes when I get up for a bathroom break I'll come back and find that she's swiped my headset and is either making rude/wierd/sexual-innuendo comments to my friends on ts, or just saying hi like she's known them for years. Yes, she's wierd and I sometimes wish I could lock her in a closet for a few hours of peace and quiet, but I love her, so I had to think of something else. So, I remembered that she loves murder novels. She only reads "non-fiction true-crime" stuff nowadays. She's read so many of them that if she picks up a new "fiction murder-mystery" book, she'll know in five minutes of turning the first page how the book ends and who did it and how too. I can't tell you how many murder-mystery dinners we've gone to with friends that she ruined for me in the first few minutes after they read the opening story to the crowd and she leans over and whispers in my ear, "Wanna know who dunnit?" So...my solution: I gave her my old laptop, a wireless internet connection, and a copy of a murder-mystery adventure game called agatha christie something or other. She was hooked in five minutes. She already knew who did it, of course, but that didn't stop her from clicking on every screen like mad looking for clues and proof and whatnot and shouting, "I found the accordian!" or some other such thing at the top of her lungs every time she found a new piece of the puzzle. Now my time is our time...Just on different computers... Anyways, just try and find something she likes and adapt it to suit your needs...If that doesn't work, the autopilot will become your new best friend as you constantly have to get up to get something she wants. Just steer away from the battle and set the autopilot.
  12. And you called Mnemonic "F*** Head" as well... Nice one....
  13. As I remember it, these views in lock on were not compatible with trackir. So when you turned them on, your head started doing the roll left roll right movement, but you lost the ability to look around with trackir if you wanted. Has this been fixed for BS? Can you have an automatic head roll and still look around with trackir at the same time, or is it like you said "as seen in LO"?
  14. As you can see, I've already thought of that. Note that the first killboz is aprox' 1k long. As I said above, my priorities for the first killzone are AA threats (I will use my "eyes on target" box to find their position in the convoy). Traveling at 50k over a 1k killbox, I will have plenty of time to engage the one or two AA threats that I've already spotted. Once those are down I can follow the convoy from behind if needed once they are through my second killzone and continue the engagement if I deem it prudent.
  15. Okay. I'm going to go ahead and actually give this one a go.... Firstly, I will be to the north of the convoy's route. My wingman will be to the south in a position to engage after I've had time to check the situation. My first goal will be to get eyes on target and determine the AA threat, and the positioning of the convoy. Once established, I will move to position two and wait for the convoy to appear in my new kill zone. I will then engage targets of opportunity from the rear and side aspects with AA defenses being my first priority. Once AA is believed to be neutralized I will order the wingman to attack and follow up myself with guns and strafing rocket attacks in the second kill zone. Exposure time will be minimized and still allow precision delivery of munitions. yellow = planned movement areas (I can move anywhere I need to within the yellow box to maintain sight of the convoy and engage with weapons yet still remain close to cover) blue = area of observation red = kill zone boxes one and two First sighting at 6k. First engagement between 5k and 7k. Second engagement between 5k and 0k. I'm interested to find out what the beta team thinks. (What would GGTharos do?)
  16. Once fired and tracking, does the helicopter need to remain pointing at the target for the missile to continue tracking?
  17. @ Grimes: I know! It's been going for so long that despite reading all of it, I keep having to go back over it again and again in order to avoid asking the same question again. A more organized and focused wiki would make shopping for specific information much easier.
  18. +1 to remaking the DCS GUI or loading screens. +1 to making this my new desktop background. Really love your art, man. Awesome talent and I dig the style it was drawn in. Here's hoping I see more from you...
  19. @ Sobek: Wow, you're right. I hadn't thought of that. Also: scroll down and look at all the posts. It's rather funny how many people made stupid comments without bothering to read the other comments and figure it out for themselves.
  20. Wow, that's some bulky looking headdress they have on...Still looks cool though.
  21. Agreed. I often turn the detection ranges off just to declutter the ME display. Would be very nice to have this displayed in yellow.
  22. +1 to the Bad A$$ 30-mike-mike
  23. Are the tunguska's missiles laser guided? If so, then you would surely have warning...
  24. If you used TrackIR for your finger wouldn't you lose 6DOF view? Or can the trackir track two different things at once?
  25. "humiliating" huh? Seems a little uptight to me...(no offense)
