What graphics card do you use? If your using a lower end gfx card you will get performance loss from some of the graphics options when set to High, even thought BS is heavily CPU dependant. If you are on Vista do what Bonkers said, if you haven't used it yet you could be looking at 35-40 fps. Also, what is your screen res and are you using any AntiAliasing etc?

cheers for that

oh ok :). I realised that wasn't actual footage of the conflict. One of the shots is of an well known incident of an aircraft at an airshow crashing. Chances of having footage from the actual event are slim and unrealistic to expect, most documentaries of such things are done with re enactments /stock footage. They are still documentaries though, they document the facts about a real life event. I agree that when they go over the top it can make you dubiuos of the facts being presented, you just have to watch it with a pinch of salt and common senese, besides its probably as close as you might get to the information about the real event. Especially since they seem to be interviewing the actual protagonists involved. The point I'm trying to make is that it look like an interesting watch, regardless of your definition of "Documentary" :) Anyway, back on topic

What makes you say that? ahh, thanks
-
Probably been posted before, its new to me. http://www.apacheclips.com/media/1767/U.S-F-16-shot-down/ What is the scenario they are discussing and does anyone know what the documentary is? cheers

Cant say for sure if this would work, but its worth a shot. Reinstall the latest Visual C++ Runtime redistributable http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=bd2a6171-e2d6-4230-b809-9a8d7548c1b6&displaylang=en Edit :check the bottom of the page if your on x86 rather than x64

Interesting, I never knew that any tank did that and I watch a lot of them military documentaries. I recall a tank did that in the game "Ground Control 2" :)

Just to add to Baka's post, you should be able to enable SLI for DCS.exe as below :- Using Global Sli, or any other global setting, is not a good idea in my opinion. It makes it very hard to track down a problem you might be experiencing with a game. Also there are few settings that work with every game. Things like AF and and Texture Filtering quality are ok but AA and SLI should always be done by profile to avoid strange behavior in other games.
-
You just play the sim like you would normally. In the nvidia control panel make a profile for DCS.exe and enable SLI for this profile (there are no presets for blackshark/DCS.exe in the nvidia drivers yet, you will have to make one). Now when the gfx drivers detect that dcs.exe is being loaded by the launcher (when you start a mission/replay/etc) it will enable SLI. To see if sli is working, go to the nvidia control panel and look for the menu at the top called "3D Settings", in the drop down menu put a tick next to "Show SLI Visual Indicators"

Actually, just rereading your post. You say the launcher crashes? You should have SLI set to work with DCS.exe not launcher.exe. They are two separate applications, dcs.exe is the game engine so thats the one you need sli for. Although, being a SLI user myself, I can tell you the performance gains are not that great or consistent enough to be of much use.
-
Which SLI mode are you using? Do all modes do this?
-
Excellent, thanks very much for the explanation, makes sense now.

yes I think its a combination of UAC, Program files dir and Vista in general. I have it working now, by running everything as administrator (launcher.exe, dcs.exe). To get around the windowed thing I unselect the full screen option box in GFX options!? (don't ask me why this works). I notice you say that you ran the install as administrator, I never did that. Does that automatically make the program run as admin when it is installed. Another question is, if I run the Launcher.exe as admin does that mean when the launcher runs DCS.exe it will pass down the Admin rights to the file being executed? This isn't the first game I have had do this; where you run a game as a normal user, set up your options and then if you run the program as Administrator in future you have to reset up all your configurations (keys, gfx, sound etc). But if you run the program as a normal user again it remembers your old settings. Very strange, its like if your running the program as a non admin it saves the game's config file "some where" else. I mean, the games only have one config.ini or whatever in their directory so how does that work? meh I don't know lol, enough of my OT rambling. It works now, so thanks :)

Vista 64 here, it does indeed need Admin rights to work. However, my problem is that when I enable Admin rights it wont start full screen only windowed, also it reverts to default gfx settings. Any ideas on why this is happening or how to get around it?

I have two 9800gtx, but I cant use sli because, like Lockon, I get flashing over cast clouds. The best way to see if sli is working is to turn on SLI visual indicators in the nvidia control panel
-
That is odd, most likely not memory related then
-
Corrupt memory can cause MD5 hash changes when transferring a file to your computer. Run memtest86 or if your on vista, run vista's own memory test before booting.

wow, looks great. thanks very much for the screens

Thanks very much, looks fantastic

Same problem here, I think its a problem with the x52 tbh. I notice that when I had the slider set to zoom view in lockon, pressing the clutch button (which causes the lights to flash) used to make the view shake even worse. It seems like a power problem for the stick.

hardly readable text in cockpit - textures
BTTW-DratsaB replied to JaBoG32_Prinzartus's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
"every other frame / every frame" I was wondering what this meant? Or what advantage/disadvantage of using either? might be a better way to ask. -
Highest Quality Force Feedback Joystick?
BTTW-DratsaB replied to 's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
As far as I'm aware FFb does not seem to be a feature that high end joystick manufacturers seem to be interested in. I think that's a shame because even if you don't really like the FFB effects, Powered Return-To-Centre is so much better than springs. Perfect example being the X52, the springs on this joystick really depress me. -
I hate to say it, but I was a bit disappointed by the Encyclopaedia. I would have much preferred the good old flight sim style, where you see the models in all their 3D glory :) and can pan around them etc hmm just thinking now, is this because there is no 3d graphics engine in the "front end"? would make sense I guess.

Multicore CPU performance improvement
BTTW-DratsaB replied to Prophet's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Got BS a day ago and I have to say I'm very impressed with how well it runs so far, way better than FC. And this set affinity thing is great, it boosted my frames from 30 to 50 in cockpit and 50 to 70 fps external...sweet :) I need to read this thread through however to figure out how to set 4 cores permanently. My specs XFX 780i C2Q9300 @3.2 4gb ram 2x 9800GTX 512mb Creative XFi extreme music Vista Ultimate SP1 GFX settings resolution :1600x1200 75hz Textures :medium Scenes :medium civ traffic :yes water :normal vis range :medium heat blur :off shadows :All planar cocpit res :512 Driver Anisotropic Filtering :x16 Antialiasing :x2 These settings are the default after I installed it (except for Screen Res, Civ traffic and gfxdriver options). I recon I have a bit of room to bump up some settings, given my current frame rate. I tried using various SLI modes but no luck there, still get flashing clouds like with lock on FC :/ . But overall Im very impressed, thankyou :) -
Wow freekin' sweet . Thanks ED I love when you visit a forum a get some nice surprise :) Ill be getting this tomorrow. Is it possible to order a printed English manual like the one that will be in the retail boxed version?
