  1. Very cool! Thanks for the detailed explaination.
  2. eXpert has an argument here (although it is somewhat belligerent). Sound device drivers do make a difference. I use lots of music software and know this issue first hand. With the right sound hardware and drivers, stutters in lots of applications are reduced. There is a driver solution for cheap sound devices called ASIO4ALL that works in many music programs, but they have to support the ASIO standard (I think...) to reap the benefit of low latency audio. This is a generic driver for many off the shelf sound devices. But no doubt it beats out the OS in audio stream handling, which itself is the problem.
  3. The default keyboard binds are very scattered. Make sure to redo them so it's easiest for you! :)
  4. The realism is part of the charm, but it lacks some things that I think most people will agree are a part of 21st century games. Although I DO UNDERSTAND it's a technical limitation based upon the size of data.
  5. I've wondered why the focus on realism in DCS. If things are simulated, approximated, and simplified to start with, why let these problems bog down development when you can just invent an answer with an imaginary world? The detail of the map itself could be greatly enhanced if they forget mapping the real world and make a custom enviornment.
  6. Are any flags reserved for use by the game? Or I just need to keep track of them? Has anyone tried my script? Would be great to hear some feedback.
  7. IDK how airraces work, but how does the game know you stay on the course or not take a shortcut?
  8. DO NOT RE-INSTALL Just copy the entire ED directory to the new drive, then http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS_symbolic_link Make a Directory Junction in the old ED folder location, point it to the new folder. EX: mklink /J "OLD DIR PATH" "NEW DIR PATH"
  9. I see it lock around 12.6 in thermal point mode
  10. CBUs are not laser guided, so no, you don't have to keep TGP visual. Drop from higher altitude, and the TGP won't be obscured as fast.
  11. Are there benefits to running DCS faster than 60fps?
  12. I really don't know why, just a thought. Maybe because it is heavier.
  13. If I disabled the radar fuze and dropped it below 300, it would impact like a MK-82. Higher up it won't. Although it's possible to get a nice CCIP lead with the right settings.
  14. Right, trying to use it like a MK-82. Why not?
  15. So I tried to fool the CBU-87 to not detonate and impact the ground instead. I set the QFE dial on the altimeter to read a higher QFE and altitude than true, and just let the bomb go. Problem was, it still knew I was below a certain altitude, but the radar altimeter showed lower than the HOF. Is this just DCS or can cluster bombs be used as dumb bombs?
  16. Do UH-1H use JTRS?
  17. I was refering to the knob to change WP mode, with the OTHER detent :) But thanks for correcting me!
  18. #1 is the pinky switch. Use it to turn off/on the exterior lights AFTER they are activated on the lighting control panel (right and behind the pilot). The keybind only flips the activation switch, the pinky switch uses it. #3 is a startup alignment problem. You must use the CDU in the OTHER page (which is default for startup) and wait until "T = 4.0.0.8". Then switch the CDU into NAV mode. THEN press the EGI button. Do not throttle up or move the plane before the alignment is completed.
  19. Trim the nose down a little bit to compensate for the A10's natural uproll. This makes entering banks much smoother.
  20. It's silly but true. Computers need to use zero to designate the first of something because otherwise zero could not exist at all.
  21. What processor do you have? That was only an issue with older Core2Quads, and I actually edited that part out because I did some further testing and I think my first conclusions were wrong... Core2Quad is like a dual-dual-core CPU. It's a very hard subject to get info on. Maybe some overclocker people know it though. If large memory transfer is going between dyes, then there will be a slowdown. I retested yesterday using an audio program (FL studio) with a special load scenario of transfering an audio stream through threads (in this case different tracks on the mixer via sidechaining) and 0,1 and 2,3 were faster. I think this is the way it works, hopefully, to avoid further confusion.
  22. Yes, you need to trim it level, because of unequal forces (lift, weight, drag) on each wing.
  23. Just wanna address the temp monitoring thing, it has been PROVEN that using temp monitoring and/or motherboard power saving features causes what is known as "DPC latency" spikes, which wreaks havoc on audio software. IT could possibly do the same to DCS. If you want to try to correlate DPC latency events to stutters in DCS, there is a program called DPC Latency Monitor that graphs it.
  24. I have read before about CPU dyes exhibiting unequal temperatures under equal load, thanks for the heads-up. Windows doesn't manage core temps by moving apps into other cores AFAIK, it just happens by shuffling over all of them. I don't think it has the necessary software to poll temps.
