Best rudder pedals in DCS?
Lausbub78 replied to Pineapple Pete's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I know this may sound like advertisement, but I gave away my Saitek and my Simped Pedals after I had my MFG Pedals for a while, because there is simply no need for a Backup. I got a set of the first Batch, delivered in August 2013 and they are in heavy use (and abuse) since then and still working like on day one. Slaws Pedals are a work of art too,we Flightsimmer can be happy to have finaly a choice between 2 affordable high end set of pedals. Don't get me wrong, the Saiteks are doing their Job just fine, aswell as the CH Pedals. But you can and will feel the difference between a mass product and a custom design made of quality materials. -
Nice work, making it foldable is a good idea.

I made a "Cockpit" with the frame made of 20x20mm respectively 40x20mm. I'm still improving some stuff over time, but overall im satisfied with how it turned out. It was more work than i have expected though. Still need to do something better to mount the Seat, before i used a Playseat, now it's a Car seat which I like much better. I have no place to work, like a Garage or a Basement so I had to plan carefully what lenghts I needed. Cutting is easy if you have the room and the tools for it. Drilling is not a problem either, but you have to watch out on the lenghts of the Screws you are using. I dont know the exact ammount of screws i had to put in, but it's easily 150-200, propably more. Sorry for the low quality pictures.

While browsing for a different seat (I'm using a Playseat right now,but wanted to check for other options for several reasons...) i stumbled across this site http://www.insiderace.com/index.php?lang=en Looks like a great alternative for the Obutto or the Volair kind of setup, the price seems not too expensive either.

Thrustmaster Warthog twist movement
Lausbub78 replied to Farlander's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I was on the same situation as you are when I got mine. It's an expensive toy and we tend to look for the smallest flaws and ponder if we got a faulty product. All I can say is , now after more than 3 years of heavy use, that it didn't get worse as far as I can tell and no button or switch has failed yet. It never was a problem, you just get used to it. Not much one can do about the little slack and the twist,it's a flaw in the general design of the stick. Seems some are lucky and have almost none, but it may develope over time by use and wear etc. -

Maybe they improved something then. Or some are just more lucky than others. 1mm sounds about right in X/Y,thats what I have too. It's more apparent with a Stick extension though. -
Thrustmaster Warthog twist movement

Not even a rotation in the 2-3mm range? I've read that the majority of WH owners have a small twist in it. Mine had it since the beginning some 3 years ago aswell as some slight slop in the center. -
Thrustmaster Warthog twist movement
Lausbub78 replied to Farlander's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It's normal, propably every stick has it. It comes down to the design,a halfcup moving on a ball. -
With the Joystick on the side you can adjust the height to your liking. With the Centermount it depends,if you are using a Warthog stick with extension it could be too high. But with any stock Joystick it shoud work fine. As for the Pedal mount,I don't think it's possible to attach one from the other Playseats. But if you are not afraid of drilling some holes you could relatively easy make your own mount and assemble it to the seats frame. Or maybe something similar like I did,if you got room for it.

Very interesting project.

I also use the MFG Pedals. It's from the very first production run ,many minor improvements have been made since then to the later production runs. They are in heavy use for more than a Year and are going like on the first day I got them. Best money I've ever spent on Flightgear, personally I rate the quality higher than the Thrustmaster Warthog. I've used Saitek Pro pedals for a while, they are not bad and liked by a lot of people for a reason. Later I got the now out of production Simped pedals,it was a slight step up from the Saiteks. The MFG outclasses both by far in any aspect. Sure, the price is steeper and the waiting time might be a while...but well worth it imo if you can justify spending the money on flight gear. I'd also say,it depends on what you fly and if you need to use the pedals often, like in Propeller planes or only occasional like in Jets.

Question for TM Warthog owners
Lausbub78 replied to SubEclipse's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Mine has some twist aswell,it's not much something like 2 or 3 millimeters on the top. Propably every WH stick has some twist in it,some more and some less....and a few lucky ones seem to have none at all (yet)^^ It's nothing to worry about aslong as its only some millimeters. Somewhere I've read that someone had like 20 or 30 degrees twist, but he got it replaced by Thrustmaster. There was something snapped off in the inside. -
I'm using a Playseat Flight,I think it's called "Playseat Air Force" now according tothe official site http://www.playseat.com/shop/eu/de/flight-simulator.html It's in use for over a Year and im overall happy with it. My main problem with it was that there is nothing you can adjust except for the backrest. I did a small modification to it so the whole seat tilts a bit more forward. Personal preference I'd say. The cusions are well made and after 1 year there are no signs of wear yet

Clicking sound in Warthog Y axis
Lausbub78 replied to dburne's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The sound you hear is the paddle switch which has a little bit of play. If you look below the paddle you can see a small screw, tightening it a bit will propably remove the play. The play you have in the Y axis is normal, mine has some play in the X axis. Propably it's because of the Gimbal construction. Not much one can do about it. -
It's sold by VKB,a russian producer of Flightsim Hardware. They don't produce the Defender Cobra M5 but they are selling it. Their European shop is found here http://flightsimcontrols.com/ Their own series of Joysticks called "Black Mamba" is also sold on their shop. Though it can take a while until you get any answers when you Email them. Currently they are on Hollydays,so nothing will be done until 18th of August, according to the European Website. I believe only 1 person works in the European shop and thats why it can take up to some weeks until you get notification or Email from them. I've bought a Black Mamba stick from their shop in Europe already and it was delivered really fast from Netherland to Germany after I got confirmation of my order (which took a few days).

Im using a Playseat Flight since more than 8 month and find it very comfortable. It's not very adjustable though, only the backpiece can be tilted forward and backwards. http://www.playseat.com/en/flight-simulator-cockpit

Setting a Deadzone around center would propably be the easiest solution.

Any interest in P-51 trim boxes?
Lausbub78 replied to Stevos758's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hm,haven't thought about the shipping cost.^^ I've ordered small electronic parts from the USA a while back and the shipping wasn't that expensive, even with UPS. But it certainly depends on the weight also. No idea what it would cost, but I belive it would not be more than 30 Euros. -

Question on PVC sheets and static charge
Lausbub78 replied to Lausbub78's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hehe I was really lucky there . Okay now I got 3 plates of wood in the same thickness. Didn't cost me anything, got it from where I work. Not really the material of my choice but I'm rather on the save side and I could still paint it. hansangb, good point with the discharge wrap though. Thanks again guys. -
Question on PVC sheets and static charge
Lausbub78 replied to Lausbub78's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the reply. Okay,so I'm better off to the drawing board again. Propably going for wood then just to be save, even if I'd rather use something else...wood looks so,hm,wooden.^^ Maybe I will paint it though. Or maybe I will have a look at those Chair mats. -
Hello all, I hope this is the correct part of the Forum to ask my Question. I plan on using 12mm PVC Sheet as base to mount my Chair and Rudderpedals on. My concern is that the PVC Sheet has a static charge,I noticed it when I cleaned the sheets with a cloth and got near the surface the hairs of my arm pointed up. I haven't thought about static charging when I decided for PVC. My Question to more experienced people on that matter is,should I better pick another material like wood as I fear to damage my Hardware, Flightcontrols,USB Ports etc. or shouldn't I worry too much. After all many of us use Carpets ,PVC Floors etc. which can aswell have some static charge. Thank you in advance.
