Spent almost my entire time in USMC working on that plane. Went from the A4D-2n originally to the newer designated A-4C, A-4D, A-4E. Was an airframes mech but actually did everything from ordinance to hydraulics on that plane. Left the engine stuff to the Jet Mechs as that's the way the pilots wanted it. My last unit before dischage in 1964 was VMA-311 that was transitioning to all A-4E's on their way to deploying to VietNam.

Okay Guys, thanks for all the feedback. I do believe cichlidfan is correct in that the TV is a 34 inch 720p and I suppose I should have never expected the same sharpness as I had on my previous monitor which was 27 inch. Especially at the distance I sit from the screen. Thought that these old eyes might benefit from a larger screen and that is most likely true, but not at 720p. Perhaps one of those high priced Dell monitors would do the trick but I think $1 G is beyond my budget. Again, thanks for your input . I have returned to my native resolution and have set the NVIDIA Inspector at DCS World "defaults" and I can live with the results. Just simply can't expect top drawer results on a limited budget. Watch your six and enjoy this sim as much as I do. Tried BMS Falcon with the new video card as well. The results are stunning.

Skate, Thanks for the input. I have experimented with various resolution settings and when I use the 1920X1080 thats available both in the "options" settings as well as within my monitor settings, it is actually worse. But I think you have me on the right track so I will keep experimenting with the available resolutions and settle on what works best.

Thanks Sel94 for the reply. I already had the settings as you suggested and its still not getting it done. I feel the issue lies in the settings I selected in the NIVIDIA Inspector settings and will still experiment with those. As I indicated, I know there are folks who have already been down this road and was seeking their input as to what the optimum settings might be for DCS World in NIVIDIA Inspector. I appreciate everyone has rather unique hardware and there is no "one size fits all" approach to what settings work best for any particular setup, but thought I would ask here for some feedback.

Just put in a ASUS GTX 780-DC2 video card and have been trying to optimize the settings for DCS. I am using NVIDIA Inspector as well as experimenting with the settings in the "options" panel within the sim. I know there are those that are waaaay ahead of me as regards this task and was wondering if anyone might share their efforts and final settings with me. The one issue I can't seem to resolve is the blurriness of the HUD fonts as well as the clarity of the labels on the various switches and knobs. I can zoom in and eventually read them but I know I have had them much clearer in the past and simply cannot repeat the setting that gave me that sharpness. I am running the resolution at the native resolution of my HD TV wiich I use as a monitor at 1360X768. I get great visuals and FPS with that in game, but still have this "sharpness" issue within the cockpit view. Any suggestions and advice would be appreciated. Even with these old 71 year old eyes, I know I can get this thing to look even clearer than at present.:helpsmilie:

CONGRATULATION for this new version 1.2.8...
Chief1942 replied to Skulleader's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
You folks never cease to amaze me. I thought that 127 was great and you have taken up even another notch. At 71 I hope I live long enough to see just what the future holds for this product with the talent you all have. Thanks for the many, many hours of enjoyment. -
New to P-51: Several Questions and Help Needed
Chief1942 replied to marcus4hire's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Perhaps I can help you with some of your questions. Recently acquired this module myself and the learning curve is trying to say the least. That's what we get with DCS as their aim is towards realism in the FM area and they seem to have hit the mark with the P-51D. Since I obtained all my DCS World and modules through DCS and not Steam, I cannot offer any help in that area. Sorry. As to the skins, they are there. You have to use the Mission Planner to get to them. Open the mission planner and select "Open" in the upper left of the screen and it will give you a list of the types of missions, training, single, etc. Select the one you want and when the Mission Planner opens it will have the map for that mission. On the map you will see a symbol for your aircraft. Click on that and a window will open on the right side of the MP. Select the particular a/c you are flying (P-51D) and make sure it says "player" for the pilot, In the bottom portion of that screen will be several icons and the one that is for "weapons/loadout". Move your mouse cursor over the icons and it will tell you what each icon represents. When you highlight that icon (loadout) it will open the weapons selection screen plus it will also show the available "skins" at the bottom of that right side screen. Simply choose the skin you want from the list and hit "save" in the upper left of the MP screen. To enable the visual pilot from inside the cockpit use R-Shift +P and it should appear. Whenever you start DCS, if there are any updates to the version you have it will identify those before it starts the sim. It is pretty much automatic unless you decline the update. I believe 1.2.7 is the current version. We are all awaiting 1.2.8 but DCS will make that available when they are sure it is ready for prime time. Hope that helps. Be sure to use the "Axis Tune" under controllers to reduce some of the sensitivity to inputs or , as I found out, that P-51D is real "tender" with the controls. Good luck and enjoy the challenge. I am. -
Okay! Well, wishing you luck and I will stay tuned on this site should one of those already spoken for becomes available.:pilotfly:

So LOGICNC, what would a person reasonably have to do to assure they would be able to acquire one of your offerings when they are ready for their debut? Be sure to note the "reasonably" part.:music_whistling:

:pilotfly:Had a like experience until I figured out what I was missing. Was able to destroy all enemy targets but I boogied out before the ground units I was there to support actually reached their final ground destination points. Once they announced that they had arrived at those points I was able to RTB with a mission success. Just flying overhead waiting for them to advance to their destinations can get boring and you will find yourself wishing those tanks could go faster:pilotfly:

Had the same issue. Found it was the second VHF radio (the lower one). once I turned it off, the tone ceased. Of course, you lose the function of that radio in the process, but the loud tone is unbearable.

Anyone earn the Medal of Honor in DCS A-10C?
Chief1942 replied to Lucky's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
They were coming so frequent that they lost their meaning. Pay little attention to them any more. -
"High Flight" Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there, I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air.... Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace. Where never lark, or even eagle flew — And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, - Put out my hand, and touched the face of God. John Gillespie Magee RIP Jim. Knowing that your finger prints are all over this genre so many of us find enjoyment in, will be your lasting legacy.

Cannot access Flight Control Options after update
Chief1942 replied to WR269's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Not sure this is any help to those experiencing this problem, but ever since I installed FC3 with all it's a/c, the loading of the "Controls" tab under "options" takes at least two full minutes to load. All the other tabs load and display as quick as you click the tab. Not sure if having so many different control settings for so many a/c is actually what's slowing it down but it's something I have learned to live with. Seems like it is never going to open but it eventually does. -
DCS 1.2.5 Released, Update 2 Released
Chief1942 replied to SkateZilla's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Ran DCS Updater and it installed with no hitch. Thanks ED. You da man!! -
Wags, Don't know what kind of compensation you folks at ED are getting, but it ain't enough. Thanks to all for their effort to keep this genre' alive and pumping. At 70, I can use all the "escapism and alter ego" I can handle and you folks are feeding me everything that I need ;-).

So what was it? Okay. I'll accept that it was not the AFM's everyone seems to be so looking forward to. Since I purchased FC3 online via download, then I would expect that I would have received the latest iteration with all the current "updates". If that was not the case then perhaps that explains the 1 hour "update" to what I downloaded. Since I did not have the opportunity to examine the aircraft/play in FC3 before the "update" then I cannot determine the changes made in the purchased product by said "update". Either way, FC3 is now infinitely more enjoyable than my original LOMAC. :pilotfly:

Like a two-fer! Purchased FC3 online and installed it. The next day I noticed the "upgrade" button on the screen and clicked it. WhooHoo! It spent the next hour upgrading the sim to the new AFM that was just announced. Gotta' say, after being away from sims for a few years, ED is the cat's pajama's when it comes to taking care of their customers. And since the flight sim community is a vastly smaller customer base than other genres , that says a lot about the integrity of ED towards it's customers. Now if I can just re-learn all those keyboard strokes to employ all the FC3 aircraft. ;)

OPS...two loading screens, one after the other..

Thanks for the direction. I can seldom find the way to deal with these issues as often the solutions are in places one wouldn't think to look -
OPS...two loading screens, one after the other..
Chief1942 replied to xracer's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
I'm getting the same plus when the main screen opens I have two verticle parallel lines on the left side with SLI and a green box on the screen. When I enter the sim, the lines are filled with a green color and the SLI script remains. Never happened before this update and the only way I can remove it is to disable SLI via NVIDIA Control Panel. No real big deal as this sim doesn't support SLI, but definitely something different with the update. -
OK! Got it working. It was that nefarious WIN7 "Run as Administrator" issue. Now on with the even steeper learning curve.

My TrackIR4 does not show in the controls panel in the options menu of DCS World or specifically A-10c. Any help would be appreciated.Did do a search of the forums but nothing to address this issue. Appreciate any help.
