Like you I am just "putter'in around in the Mig-21 at the moment as I learn all the intricacies of the various systems. But I am using a TM Warthog setup and the trim function works fine for me. You are aware that it only trims nose up or nose down, right?

It's an issue with the programming. Nothing that you are doing wrong or can do. Perhaps when many of the real immersion killers are resolved, they may have time and the inclination to make it so we can also return to a shelter.

What does need DCS WWII to be the best simulator. [Exigent Wishlist]
Chief1942 replied to Llucmk's topic in DCS Wishlist
I have every confidence that ED will provide us with as good as is within their abilities and within the limits of todays computer/graphics technology. Patience is a virtue:thumbup: And yes, I am as anxious as anyone for the release of EDGE and the Nevada map. -
Uh! It's "Beta". I sense one of the reasons folks complain about not having a manual with the F-86 is that when you pay $50 for a sim, it should contain a manual. I'll cut them some slack since we knew we were purchasing a "bets" product that was still being fine tuned/debugged. But I would suspect there would be a lot of unhappy folks if the final release does not have a manual with it. As you noted, the "real" manual has stuff in it that simply does not pertain to the one DCS has released. Big difference in the real aircraft and the one DCS provided us, no matter how hard they try to give us the most realistic experience possible on a computer.

My 2 cents 1) I feel the F-86 is somewhat simpler to manage than the P-51. You can't simply throw either of them around with ham fisted tactics, but the "systems" in the F-86 are less demanding than the P-51. 2) The F-86 is still Beta, but I sense that Belsimtek/ED have done a remarkable job in presenting that early jet fighter and it's predecessor the P-51. Remember these are "study sims" and as such require some commitment to actually learning about these aircraft and applying the fundamentals relative to each particular aircraft. RTFM;) 3) The "docs" that come with each of these birds are adequate to get you up and running. If you actually get the "bug" for one or the other, many fine folks here on these forums have provided many links to volumes of data and info on each. Many YouTube tutorials to give you hours of viewing pleasure.:joystick: Missions are adequate plus there is always the Mission Editor where you can create/ modify to your satisfaction. Campaigns, not so much and I honestly cannot comment fairly as I have not felt I am adequately proficient at managing either of these aircraft to take on a campaign just yet. YMMV:D 4) That depends on how much time you actually commit to becoming proficient at managing and employing each "weapon system". Can be a challenge as you have to actually fly the aircraft well, often on the edge of it's performance envelope, AND utilize the weapons systems at the same time. Practice, practice, practice!! And of course RTFM!;) My recommendation is go for it! Most all of us started with the same lack of skills and appreciation for the complexities of these offerings from ED and their contributors. Must say it is as much fun as one can have with their clothes on.:pilotfly: Would honestly say this. Trying to become truly proficient at any of ED's offerings almost requires you pick one and stay with it exclusively until you (and your stats) indicate you have it mastered, then pick the next offering, rinse and repeat.

Thanks:thumbup:. Wasn't aware Milan was struggling keeping up with orders:helpsmilie:. But then that is a good thing for him. It is a good product and worth the price.

What does need DCS WWII to be the best simulator. [Exigent Wishlist]
Chief1942 replied to Llucmk's topic in DCS Wishlist
The title of this thread is "DCS Wish list", so I suppose referring to some of the likable attributes of other like/similar sims is not inappropriate. When we are talking about "Study Sims" it doesn't ALL pertain simply to the flight models:pilotfly:. There are varied aspects of flight sims that some are simply better at than others:joystick:. I believe that is what the OP was inferring. Wishing is just that........wishing.:music_whistling: -
Why not the MFG ones? Myself and many others have them and they are superb.
-
I agree with the others. It's like choosing between whiskey and bourbon. They are both great in their own way. I have both but tend towards the F-86 because of the less steep learning curve. But I gotta' say, I'm drawn back to that Mig-21 more frequently just because of the challenges it presents. You probably won't be disappointed regardless. But when your able, get the other one as well. Merry Christmas.

What does need DCS WWII to be the best simulator. [Exigent Wishlist]
Chief1942 replied to Llucmk's topic in DCS Wishlist
Huh? If one does not compare it to others in this genre, then pray tell how anyone can describe their wishes. Not everyone is a "developer" that is totally immersed in all the technical aspects of designing and building study sims. Comparative analysis is an oft used approach when trying to explain/describe details. Want fan boys that go berserk when another fight sim is even mentioned on their forums, try BMS.:music_whistling: I don't sense that those here at DCSW are that thin skinned, as long as one stays within the rules for posting on the forums. If they don't, the moderators will act accordingly.;) -
F-15C rolling to right after take off
Chief1942 replied to Glimmerman's topic in F-15C for DCS World
Just downloaded the new beta update and the F-15 issue was fixed in my install. Thanks ED for the quick attention to this. Know this, even the critics, of which I have been on occasion, still recognize that if it wasn't for ED, we would NOT have these high fidelity flight sims, if any flight sims at all. Thanks for hanging in there with us. -
Grizzy, Not sure what the issue is with you SLI'ing those two cards. I am presently running two GTX780's in SLI and except for some graphics anomolies introduced via the last upgrade, I definitely notice an improvement in FPS. Now I will say that if I disable SLI (neuter one card) DCSW still works smooth, just with a fewer FPS. Perhaps it has something to do with your specific video cards. The major reason for me having 2 cards in my system is in anticipation of EDGE, as Wags has said it will be optimized for multiple graphics cards. I will wait and see if when it does get released if SLI actually has enough benefits to warrant two cards.

"Of course you need alot of GPU horsepower to run it. " I keep seeing those types of claims and am wondering just what "a lot of GPU horsepower " actually equates to. Could someone shed some light on what card(s) might be able to run a 4K at it's proper resolution?

F-18 grip, WARTHOG compatible

TM warthog warranty, what a joke!
Chief1942 replied to a1adin's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I think the Internet is rife with complaints about Thrustmaster. Seems they could care less about service "after the sale". And as so often happens in the flight sim genre, they discovered that they have a very small customer base for their products and tend to quit making them or providing warranty service beyond a certain point in time. When their supply of spare parts have totally disappeared from their shelves, they simply do not replace them in spite of the numbers of their products out there who will most likely end up needing just those pieces. I suppose our only hope is that some skilled individual/s will use some of the technology available today ( 3D printers, etc) and fill the vacancy. Time will tell, but I gave up on Thrustmaster being there for their flight sim product owners long ago. Fortunately, I haven't had a show stopper breakdown as yet, but it is only a matter of time. -
Thank you for your assistance. We will leave it to mrmertz to give us an okay to proceed. This is a great community here at DCS and you are no small part of it. Merry Christmas.

This thread reminds me so much of those that came after the P-51 was released and it's opponent was the FW-190. Talk about vertical and being able to hang on the prop. Seems I read almost the same things being said about the 109-K4. After some time, it seems the FW-190 is a fair fight but not the ridiculous one it was at the outset. Still takes 90+ hits of those 50 cals to one of theirs. I sense the same evolution will happen with the 109-K4. Will wait and watch.

Jeff, You are correct in so many of the things you said. Yes, the flight sim community is a "family". There really are not that many of us when compared to the other genres. We do need to assist and contribute to one another in any ways that we can. Do know that now that your struggle is out there, there are those that will keep you in their thoughts and prayers. You already know that each day is a gift and the longer you keep up the good fight, the chance that the next day will find some new drug or treatment regimen that could lick this thing for good, is a possibility. My offer is still there and it would be my privilege to assist you in keeping your hands into something you enjoy and that rewards you in other ways as well. At 72 I appreciate the mental challenges that flight simming forces upon me and it helps me exercise my gray matter. Any way, you hang in there and I pray you and yours have a very Merry Christmas and enjoy the New Year and many to follow.

A member (mrmertz)on the forum wants some of the modules for Christmas and I have offered to purchase whatever modules he wants. Can you give me some guidance if he accepts my offer? Thank you.

mrmertz, I lost my wife of 47 years to cancer after a 6 year battle. I know the circumstance you are facing. You tell me which modules you want for Christmas and I will personally purchase them for you. And Merry Christmas!

TM Warthog Gimbal Broke and Not Avalable any More
Chief1942 replied to LeadDoctor's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I suspect someone with one of those 3D printers and the talent to use it, could reproduce these gimbals quite handily. Certainly would be a market in light of Thrustmaster's decision to quit supporting all their customers needs. -
Agree Witchking, we don't want ED to "dummie down" the FM in order to placate that element that would prefer not having to spend the right amount of time to achieve the skills necessary to properly manage the SU-27. In light of all their positive efforts of past FM iterations, I feel confident in ED to identify and fix any issues that might be a departure from the actual physics as can be achieved via computer simulation. They have earned our trust and patience.
