DCS crashes at the Debriefing Screen after I exit a mission. This occurs whether or not I have any "mods" installed via GME. I removed all my GME mods before the upgrade to 1.2.9.30604. The missions all load and operated fine, even with the "mods" but when it moves to the Debriefing screen after I close out the mission, it loads according to the "blue progression strip" but crashes when it reaches 100%. I'm at a loss. I have already tried the DCS repair, no joy. Any advice? Thanks.

Thrustmaster Warthog availability
Chief1942 replied to Smorpheus84's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Might try Amazon.com as they seem to have them available and ready to ship. -
What to do? What to do? Been eyeballing those 4K TV's for some time now and watching closely the price points as they come down. I've done almost weekly research on the 'Net regarding these 4K TV/monitors and from everything I read, it is probably too early for me to pull the trigger. I am really looking forward to the ability to clearly see the scripts on the knobs and switches in the A-10C without having to zoom the view. Reading these sort of posts and experiences make it even tougher to postpone the purchase. But since I don't have the luxury of being an "early adopter" I guess I will have to wait until such time as they put out the HDMI 2.0 and GPU's that support it. Heck, in all my research on this, I haven't even come to appreciate all that 4K brings and some sites are already talking about 8K. And yes, I am aware that if one waits for the next latest-fastest-greatest gizmo, they will wait forever. I do appreciate these threads where you folks have already made the leap and are honestly willing to share your experience with others. It does help in the decision process.:smartass:

$$$$ is always an issue Frosty, I think most of us are at or were at one time at the decision point you currently find yourself. I've been at this a long time and have gone through Thrustmaster pedals, CH, Saitek, and now have the privilege to own a pair of Crosswinds. If you are at the point where money is of primary concern, and who of us hasn't been in that position, then you will enjoy the Saitek pedals from a cost/performance standpoint. I used a set for years and they were still working fine when I finally bought into the Crosswinds. Like flight sticks/throttles, there are many out there to choose from and each comes with its own issues/strengths. The old adage "you get what you pay for" has merit. One can hardly be faulted for waiting until they can afford a quality product as there is a reason for the added expense. But do try to make a decision when you feel it is appropriate as flying with rudder pedals gives even more immersion to the whole flight sim genre'. You will be rewarded for whatever investment you make.

List of landmarks in DCS World

I think I'll Fly the Dora When a plane can take this kind of damage and still fly like it's pristine, then that's the plane for me. No more of the P-51 that goes out of commission with a couple of rounds in her.
-
I would pretty much concur with what others have said. I've been with the A-10A since LOMAC days and it takes awhile to get to know the keystrokes. I usually flew that plane with the "cheat sheet" right in front of me. Don't shortchange your enjoyment of flying different airframes simply due to the lack of clickable cockpits. One thing you will come to appreciate is the actual differences in these aircraft. Make learning a part of the enjoyment. I would readily admit that once you had the opportunity to experience the A-10C or the P-51D it is hard to go back to the more simple models. Sort of like the old adage "Once they've seen Paris, how you gonna keep 'em down on the farm"? Besides. if you acquire FC3 and some of the other offerings, you are supporting DCS and that support will tend to lead to the very things you ultimately want in a flight sim.

Mustang I'm too old to learn to German so I find it easier to operate the Mustang. Like the Russian aircraft, a large part of the learning curve is learning the new language so you can understand your instruments. Your mileage may vary.:smilewink:

Diversify and succeed. Stick with one era and you only get the number of folks who are taken by that era. The flight sim (especially "study" sims) has a very small following relative to the overall PC sim market. I think ED is wise to tap as much of the interest as is out there. One can purchase the "era" of aircraft they like or not. As always the choice is the consumers. One of the attractive aspects of this approach that I personally appreciate is getting a sense of the evolution of military aircraft. Want to know what a WW2 pilot had to work with, fly the P-51D. Want to experience what many recent pilots have to work with, fly the A-10C, F-15, or SU-27, etc. Something for everyone. And since the time from development to market for this level of accuracy is tremendously protracted for whatever "era" they are developing, it will task our patience regardless. We ALL want it ALL, yesterday. Understandable but not realistic.

You hang in there "Old Timer". I wish I could remember everything I seem to have forgotten about the scooter since that was the primary A/C for my 4 years at El Toro. Except for an initial stint with an F-4J Fury transition squadron, A-4's are all I worked with. VMA-311 was the last outfit I was assigned to before my discharge in '64. Looking at the pics of those VMA-311 Tomcat A/C really brings back the memories.

Ryan, "And then that day comes in the form of the Marine Corps getting the Air Force's hand-me-downs (as per usual...we used to furnish our barracks with the Air Force's throwout furniture....and it still looked new to us)" Gotta say that made me roll with laughter. When I was in A-4 Squadrons at El Toro back in the early 60's we used to get a Duece and a half and drive to March or Norton Air Force Bases and go through their "cast offs" so that we could get something better than the Navy was willing to let us have. That's how we got our first IBM "Ball" typewriters in the Maintenance Office. Such memories! Heck, they even had some Atlas ICBM's in those warehouses. Semper Fi!

[photos] Weathered A-10C in progress
Chief1942 replied to Ryan Barnes's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Semper Fi! Looking forward to the release of the USMC skin. I know it's fictional but then the mere fact I think I can fly a Warthog is fictional as well:pilotfly: -
MFG Crosswind - Review
Chief1942 replied to Flamin_Squirrel's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Got mine! My Crosswinds came today, and they are everything they were advertised to be. I often rely on the experience and feedback of others before I commit to new hardware since some of it is over hyped. You guys were right. I replaced my Saiteks which were actually working fine for me, but these Crosswinds are definitely a step up in quality and precision. I appreciate ,except for steering on the ground and braking, rudder pedals get very little consideration. Once you have used a good set of controls, ie. TM WartHog etc. you come to appreciate why they cost so much. If you're a serious simmer, you should strongly consider the Crosswinds. -
I wish it was that simple. I've completely removed as many instances of "Lantirn" in both the loading screens, and within DCSW Data/images/loadout/weapons and changed the Lantirn symbol to Lantirn.orig and they still show up on some but not all F-16 variants in Create Quick Mission as well as those single Player missions where they are present. Not certain where the key lies to correct this issue, but it sure is a "immersion"killer.

GTG Good to go, JazAero. I look forward to an A-4 with much anticipation.

How many A-4s? Been following this thread with much interest as JazAero proceeds with his development of the A-4 he did for another sim, this time for DCSW. Now I read about the development of an A-4C that was mentioned along with the Duxford Show information. Lots of positive response to that announcement and I am now curious if these are two completley separate ventures and just which one is going to get DCS's blessing. Anybody know whats up?:noexpression:

Yeah, I left a bit before you (1964). I did my time walking guard duty in the A-4 Squadron areas. We has three A-4 Squadrons there at the time. VMA-121 (my outfit), VMA-211, and VMA-223. Guard Duty was the most boring task I ever had, but one never wanted to let their guard down, especially as the OOD or Duty Sargent were always trying to see if they could penetrate the guards area. Ah! The memories. Semper Fi!

Yes, I remember that incident. he did what many of us "Plane Captains" often thought of doing. Fortunately for most of us, the models we worked on required an external starting pod and I seriously doubt any one person could have recruited enough guys to help in the endeavor. Just as well, as I would not have made out as well as that guy who already had some "stick time" all be it in a glider.
-
Cain't wait! I spent so much time in, on , and around the A-4, I was certain if given the opportunity I could have flown that jet. Perhaps after all these years I may at least get the opportunity to fulfill that wish however artificially created.:pilotfly: Looking forward to the fruit of your efforts JazAero

Need help on F-15C landing (Always heavy touch)
Chief1942 replied to uboats's topic in F-15C for DCS World
This!^ I know how difficult it is to NOT pull back on the stick, but you should be adding throttle to flatten out your descent, not adding to pitch. -
MFG Crosswind - Review
Chief1942 replied to Flamin_Squirrel's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You guys aren't making the wait any easier. I'm one of those folks Milan mentioned on his pre-order list. My only concern is whether or not they will fit in the space under my desk. If not, then it's a new desk as the important thing is having quality control systems to assist us in managing flight in these ever more precise flight sims. The days of "yank and bank" that was standard back in the inception of this genre are gone. With better and better 'study sims" one needs better and better equipment and that is why I think Milan, as a flier himself, has done us all a big favor putting these nice units out there. Now I have to wipe the drool off my monitor just looking at the pics of those beauties. -
I do have some pics that I got from one of our pilots that he took for me as they were flying a two ship over California. Not sure what you can glean from any of the pics I have but will send you some if I can make it work on the 'puter. I spent some time on the net today looking at what might be available regarding the canopy/operating mechanism. Actually the best pics were from some scale modeling sites. These modelers really do their research and have tons of pics of the A-4 for reference as they build their models.

I'll see what I can find JazAero; Tried to reply to your PM but kept getting "the following users were not found" when I tried to reply. But basically: Boy, this is going to be a challenge. It's been many years since I strapped pilots into the A-4's and to be honest, I don't think I ever paid any attention to the canopy hinge mechanism. I really should remember as being an Airframes Mech I had to pretty much check every rivet, nut and bolt on the planes when they were in for their periodic inspections. I will never forget the admonition on the inspection sheet as it went from a/c section area by area, "Check for cracks, corrosion, and defective rivets". Must have read that a million times. ' All I can offer is to look through some of our squadron photo and see if it even provides any type of close-up of the canopy hinges. Will get back to you with what I have.

Southernrebel, El Toro it was. Started there in a transitional FJ-4 "Fury" squadron which were being exchanged for the newer A-4's. Spent a couple of years in VMA-121 and my final outfit was VMA-311. Loved all the trips to Yuma for weapons delivery practice for the pilots as well as NAS Fallon, Nevada. Lots of memories of the A-4 and yes, there were very few "Mustangs"(enlisted pilots) still around in those days. Most were finishing up their careers after WW2 and Korea. Closest thing we came to using the A-4's for in those days was the Cuban Missle Crises. Wasn't until it was all over that we really learned how close we came to being vaporized. But they did get quite a workout in "Nam.
