I'm in the exact same boat as you. I'm considering Kaby Lake and DDR4 ram instead of a 1080. I see many people hitting 5ghz on the 7700k which I think will give a bigger improvement in frame rate than a change of graphics card.
-
It's not a third frame. It's the left eye frame before the warp is applied so it doesn't cost anything.

@mx22 "Couple of questions: - I found it hard to concentrate on gunsight reticle. Everything in cockpit was sharp, but that gunsight projection was as if it was a bit out of focus. " Haven't noticed this. "- is mouse permanently locked to the center position? Did I miss some option? I've read about this week's patch VR bug and did not download the latest version, still mouse is locked to the center position..." Untick lock mouse pointer to headset. After doing so alt enter to full screen so your mouse does not exit the game window. "- I can lean out of the cockpit even when canopy is closed. Is this normal?" Yes. It's the lesser of two evils. Stopping the in cockpit motion while you continue to move your head would be very jarring. "- any VR specific options I should be activating? I literally only had time to do one quick flight and did not go into the options (I know there is VR tab there). I've read about model enlargement; are there any other must-do options for VR? Any special software to download (right now I'm using default oculus software with latest firmware for goggles)?" Consider increasing the pixel density to improve the visuals if your machine can handle it. It's in the VR settings. No third party apps or software needed but voice recognition software can be useful. "- optimal VR graphics settings? I'm on i7 6700k with 16gb ram, gtx1070 and ssd. I've read that people lower their graphics settings, but I did not see any problems with fps during the test flight, also, I usually use Fraps for fps, would it work in Oculus or do you guys use something else to see your fps?" Right ctrl pause key to display FPS in the headset. Play around with rendering settings and ASW by using right ctrl numpad 1 and right ctrl numpad 3. I find ASW on (45fps) acceptable. ASW off requires lower settings to maintain 90fps. Shadows are the biggest framerate killer for me.

Look and click will always be quicker than using a touch controller but I think that misses the point. Having your hands in VR really increases immersion to an entirely new level. Both options are now available in oculus home (look and click or touch). It's nice to have both options.

It can be rendered transparent.

They strap to your wrist so no problem finding them ;-) Just a little practice to flick them up into your hand. It helps if your throttle and stick aren't up on a desk though. My collective and cyclic are floor mounted so when I release touch it hangs freely without banging on anything.
-
Touch support would work great on my setup. I only need the left hand as I only fly helicopters and with the lanyard I can just let go of it and it dangles from my wrist at the side of my collective. It has point for switches, pinch for rotaries and grab for levers. As others have said you can see it in VR as well so no fumbling to find it. It makes perfect sense to implement support. Sure a haptic feedback glove would make more sense but for now touch is what we've got. By the way I don't play traditional games much but dead and buried with touch is absolutely brilliant. It's amazing how much hand presence improves immersion.

People are trying to offer constructive feedback not complain. They have even gone as far as posting links on a very technical issue to illustrate the problem. VRS is modeled just not correctly. I'm another one who has stopped using the gazelle until it's flight model is improved to obey the laws of physics. See my other thread regarding lateral tail rotor thrust and cyclic stability for example. I'm currently filled with hope and dread for the bo105. I want the Polychop helicopters to be the best in DCS. In spite of the fantastic rendering and good systems modeling in my opinion the Gazelle is currently the worst helicopter in DCS due to the poor flight model. If I want to just look at well rendered helicopters that don't fly right I'd install P3d or FSX.

So how well does Asynchronous Space Warp work in DCS?
Frusheen replied to RoyMi6's topic in Virtual Reality
If you can't maintain 45fps then it won't be smooth. You can deactivate it with ctrl numpad 1 or lower your rendering settings. Works great for me so far. Have you the latest driver for your graphics card? -
Bug - pedal turns do not effect cyclic stability with SAS off.
Frusheen replied to Frusheen's topic in Bugs and Problems
No offence Goggles but I'm just reporting a bug in the flight model. I'll leave the programming to the developers and your further questions about helicopter flight dynamics to google. -
Bug - pedal turns do not effect cyclic stability with SAS off.
Frusheen replied to Frusheen's topic in Bugs and Problems
The moment produced by the tail rotor to overcome torque causes a sideways force on the airframe which will make the helicopter want to drift sideways. The varying of thrust at the tail rotor to pivot the helicopter about the mast will vary this sideways force meaning greater or less cyclic deflection is needed to counteract it. The rigging of the main rotor can be set to counteract this but only for a given setting so some cyclic adjustment is needed to maintain position over the ground when varying tail rotor pitch. The effect is manifest on helicopters which have the tail rotor below the main rotor by the helicopter hovering with one skid lower than the other. Sudden stops in rotation about the main mast should see a cyclic deflection required to arrest the momentum of the airframe from following through. In wind cyclic pressure into wind should increase when turning crosswind. -

Goblin just curious how you are checking your frame rates. Are you using right ctrl and pause keys? -

Which driver version are you running for your graphics card? Edit: sorry I see you say you've latest drivers. I'm not sure what those errors mean. -

Ctrl 2 should lock you at 45. Seems like you have an issue with your registry edit. See can you find anything in your latest log file here: AppData/Local/Oculus/Service_<date>.txt file, search for "ASW". It should state whether it was able to activate ASW. -

Agreed. I managed to fix my windows 10 restart issue when I turned off an obscure power management setting. Finally getting to enjoy flying again. -

Thanks Derek. I'll try the above. Sorry to others for the off topic. -
Use rightctrl pause/break to see the in rift fps. If you have ASW enabled press ctrl numpad1 to disable it (it locks frames to 45 when on).

I ran memtest. Checked my drives for errors. Removed all overclocking. Removed XMP on the ram. Removed all power saving options in W10 and it still just clicks off and restarts about 15mins after startup. Once I boot back up it stays running fine until I restart again. No temp problems and no voltage fluctuation observed in hardware monitor. I'm thinking now it's my motherboard. Msi gd65 gaming. There is a bios update available but when I try to flash it from USB the uefi just hangs. No progress bar and no input devices work. I have to restart. -
So how well does Asynchronous Space Warp work in DCS?
Frusheen replied to RoyMi6's topic in Virtual Reality
Oh mine is a straight crash about once or twice a day. Not a shutdown and update! Ha. I'm still searching for the cause. Event viewer isn't helping. Google w10 crash and restart and you'll see I'm not alone. -
So how well does Asynchronous Space Warp work in DCS?
Frusheen replied to RoyMi6's topic in Virtual Reality
I did a completely clean install from disc. Formatted all my drives reinstalled everything from scratch..... still have random daily crashes. It's like the power goes out then the system reboots. Lots of people with the same problem all over the net and none of the power management fixes suggested work. No hardware changes on the system since Windows 7 which was completely stable. Anyway off topic I guess. -

Derek to confirm look at the log file under (C:\Users\*USERNAME*\AppData\Local\Oculus\Service_*LATEST DATE*.txt) and search for 'asw' and see what it says. EDIT: I know what you mean about w10. My system just randomly crashes and reboots a few times a day since I "upgraded". No idea why and I see Google is full of people with the same problem. I've yet to find a solution. -

They should lock at 45 with ctrl np3. ASW is not compatable with 7xx series cards. I'm also not sure it works with dk2 -
This has been requested and discussed before. The usual answer is that ED will not cater for brand specific features. So we won't get any of the nvidia goodies because they don't work with AMD or vice versa. It is the reason most of us buy the best single GPU card we can rather than running two lower spec cards.

I mounted a trackball on my collective control (throttle). I find I use head point and a switch more now though. I just wish that the head pointer disappeared when not over an active click spot.
