I agree. Dressing up the F-14B with skins of squadrons that never operated the B-variant never seemed right to me. The A-variant had the best liveries, though.

They sure were on the way back for decommissioning. The August 1, 1992 - January 31, 1993 deployment was Ranger's last. VF-1 was disestablished October 1, 1993. Initially, the plan was to have both VF-1 and VF-2 upgrade to the D-variant.

Same here. VF-1 was actually quite varied in their liveries over the years. Plus, they spent most of their F-14 time aboard Ranger and assigned to CVW-2, so it's only logical that we get more of those skins.

Don't you just love this world? To think somebody was one the same wavelength as you and made this is just awesome. I love how easily you can tune it out, yet you still hear it. It's very soothing - it makes you feel like you're not really alone and there's nothing you can't overcome as long as you stay on the ship!

Those are definitely circa-1990. After USS Independence returned home from Desert Shield, they began preparing to become the Seventh Fleet forward-deployed carrier out of Yokosuka. At the time, VF-21 (along with sister squadron VF-154) belonged to CVW-14, but they essentially became CVW-5, the forward-deployed air wing out of NAF Atsugi. When they became CVW-5, their tailcodes changed to "NF." In fact, the VF-21 and VF-154 liveries during their time in CVW-5 are among the most memorable, yet underrated liveries.

I'm sure we'll get a good mix of liveries. While the '70s liveries are certainly prettier, keep in mind - by the early '80s, they'd gone out of style. For me, the dull gray has its appeal simply because that's how the Tomcat spent much of its career. Also, the dull gray is how the Tomcat was dressed up during my lifetime, so there's that personal aspect to it.

Can't have VF-154 without it's sister squadron, VF-21!

Bumping this thread. This mission needs an update to incorporate the improvements and new additions to DCS!

If you're talking about Syrian Air Defense Network 2012, that's an awesome mod. Well done! How much research did you have to do to put it all together?

I mean, if you insist on flying for Bashar al-Assad, okay, but remember that the Russians had a huge intervention in Syria and they saw more action than the Syrian Air Force did.
