Leatherneck Simulations Mini-Update - SEPTEMBER 2015
emg replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
We already know the aircraft. And no, there is no better interceptor being released in the near future :). -

In reply to Silver Dragon's post^ I thought the USN desperately wanted 20mm guns in their fighters to take down Kamikaze planes faster? https://web.archive.org/web/20090505052709/http://www.airforcehistory.hq.af.mil/EARS/Hallionpapers/precisionweaponspower.htm

Yeah, a lot of non-swedes confuse the AJ with the JA (even tho you've done your best to inform them it's a striker.) Oh well.
-
Yes but they're pretty slim and mounted flush on the rear fuselage. You can see the KB pod hanging on the right wing of this Draken here: And you see it's a much draggier arrangement than the ASO-2 pods.
-
I'm not so sure the bolded part is the general consensus? And at least the MiG-21bis can carry chaff/flares without a draggy dispenser.
-
Hm, the only western engines with ~77kn dry thrust are the latest versions of the F100 and F110 which are about 1.5m longer than the RB199... So I guess they were talking about the still theoretical EJ200 upgrade @80/120kn (which is a public proposal from Eurojet.) ^Not even sure if the Typhoon user forces want this, since it increases fuel consumption. French posters have said the French AF turned down a 75 to 90kn engine upgrade for the Rafale, for that reason. The USN has also turned down a 100 to 110 or 120kn upgrade of the F414.

Took part in a 20+ player MP event in 1.5, shortly after it went open beta. DCS didn't crash for anyone and the FPS & visibility gains were huge. Uninstalled 1.2 a week after.

Imo the AJ-37 is a lot closer to a Jaguar or Su-22 than a Su-24 (which is considered a medium bomber!) or Tornado on a deep penetration mission. Mission-wise, you could even consider it as primarily an anti-ship missile carrier. Soviet amphib forces were a big threat.

Are you guys telling me... it's F5 time?? :drink:

Yes but Bodenplatte targets were all near the frontline, in Belgium and at Metz, far away from Normandy. Look, I think it's fine to use the 109 K-4 on a Normandy map, even though a G model would be more historically correct. I'm just saying, I don't think we should be strict about using the Corsair there as well.
-
It's optimistic to expect that the Normandy map will include most of Belgium. By October '44, the Luftwaffe was not even capable of defending Germany against bombing raids. Forget about offensive sorties over Normandy.
-
AFAIk you are right, but the point was the Corsair was operating in Europe and is about as relevant on a Normandy map as a K-4* IMO. *the K-4 was delivered from october '44 - we are getting a Normandy map - by mid-september '44, the frontline was touching Germany, about 280km east of Calais/Abbeville. Still, most people are fine with using the K-4 on a Normandy map, so I don't think we should be so strict about using a Corsair there as well. Anyway this was just a digression in response to this:

^British Corsairs saw action in Europe in 44. P.S. It's obvious that many of the modules are created because the devs have a passion for a specific plane (C-101, Viggen, MiG-21, Hawk, Gazelle, Bo-105), and/or having real life access to the plane (L-39) and/or people that worked with it (M2000). IMO it's strange to see all these posts that try to tell the devs to make planes based on economic prospects.
-
Not the radar, no. Basically it's a 1969/71 plane that was upgraded to carry modern weapons, and a new RWR. It's a fairly advanced radar mode. The Tornado attack radar doesn't have it. When considering fighter-bombers only, AFAIK it didn't show up until the 80's with the Hornet radar.
-
GMTI in 1969? Let's not expect too much from these old radars.
-
9P was basically a budget model for low-priority units and allies.
-
If you are more familiar with Russian equipment, it's fairly similar to the Kh-23.
-
Let's be realistic, 95% of the DCS F-14 campaigns and scenarios will be hot, fictional USN campaigns with a carrier. Not land-based IRIAF scenarios, or realistic USN patrol missions of '91, when the USAF gave all the "good" missions to F-15 units.
-
Should note that the airframe was designed as an interceptor, but the air force needed a new attack plane in the 60's, so the first version got these ground attack systems that mattebubben described.
-
Btw, RN Corsairs were used in the ETO, not sure if they specifically saw action over Normandy. Wildcats did patrol the channel on D-day. (Very strictly speaking, the 109 K-4 is also out of place, as the frontline had moved into Belgium/Germany by the time it was operational. But with the map fidelity we expect, we can't have strictly correct maps for every WWII module.)
-
Guys, read the first post :) there's another thread where they are/were collecting our opinions.
-
Business wise, even the C-101 sold well enough that Aviodev decided to start on the Mirage F1. Its external model and cockpit quality is top notch, and I guess it shows the community is open to less known planes from new developers - when the quality is that high.
-
We heard you people the first time around, and we don't really need to see 100 of these badly disguised posts saying "why you make swedish plane, please make my favorite famous plane instead."
-
Thanks for the update!
