Display sizes for Simming in General
313_Nevo replied to Headwarp's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Definitely there is some model enlargement in DCS and the setup vary from server to server (I dont play much offline). Here is the picture of missing actually not wing but the vertical and horizontal stabs. It is at the same distance and just slightly different angle. Orig res. was 1920x1080, no AA, no AF. I dont know what is the cause of this, and also dont know if this is common for all other games, but it is obvious that this can worsen the visibility of other aircrafts. The question is also, how to reduce this effect? AA? AF? both? anything else? PS: I dont care about the FPS :) if my eyes are OK with what they see then I am fine and no FPS counter can change that ;) -

My luck finally got tired and show a smile on me :) switched from PHILIPS 190S to SAMSUNG UE40A656 from 1280x1024x75Hz to 1920x1080x60Hz over VGA or HDMI. over HDMI it has bigger input lag (you see that vertically there is not so much gain, but pixels are much bigger and that also counts). I realized that the problem in DCS with visibility of other aircrafts is not tied to the resolution. at least thats my observation. On particular distances I am loosing lot of graphical information, like aicraft wing is not visible, its just not drawn. Looks like it is hidden between the LCD grid rows/columns. This is all no AA and no AF settings. Later today I will post picture of the missing graphical info in regards to aircrafts. -

Headwarp, you say 2 monitors in 3360x1050? That means you downscaled your primary 27" monitor from 1920x1080 to 1680x1050.. maybe thats the reason you see everything bigger with this config.. ? -
I dont have HOTAS, HT or RUDDERS and I am enjoying DCS for few years now (MP also) :) These are not necessary, what makes them necessary is the game design for some reason. I think the beginners are all welcomed. They only need to accept the steep learning curve, thats all imho. And more devs? I am OK with the actual number, which is actually growing, and thats the important thing.

I just checked some other thread and if you are looking into users signatures you can find someone who is using already something similar for simming. E.g. I found that cichlidfan has this Samsung 40H6350 TV (I was able to find it only on russian web sites, so russian model or something) cichlidfan could you pls shed a light on how do you run and enjoy DCS on this TV? thx -

imho the older models are better for gaming as they dont have so much features which can worse the overall performance of the TV (and maybe also the input lag). also you can have a look here for models, but the first web is usa and the second is uk, when you are from other part of the world the model names can vary usa http://www.displaylag.com/display-database/ uk http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/input-lag -
Why aren't there today any real good joysticks?
313_Nevo replied to FlightControl's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Good discussion, many good points here. But particularly one I like: And I have to agree here: And if we combine these two ideas we can get one great solution, IMHO of course :) What will be great? - cheap starter joystick with pots (because cheap joys still sell in tens of thousands) * - upgradable to magnetic sensors (because there are also avid simmers) - detachable stick grip from the base (because people like micro-transactions and mods) - 3in1 with lock on twist (because you know why) - ... Have a look on TM T.Flight Stick X [cheap], Saitek Pacific AV8R [detachable grip], TM 16000/Cobra M5 [mag sensors]. The price tag for all the mentioned is still really OK. Combine all this into one single modular thing and I think there is a winner. No matter which brand in the end (I like CHs, VKBs, TMs, Saiteks,...), but this is IMHO the perfect candidate to implement all above: * dont forget about the pots starter version, grandpas/mas also want to buy joysticks for their grandkids ;) -

search this forums. you can find ton of recommendations, to go the HDTV 'big screen' way, from happy owners. I dont want to upset my luck, but I 'guess' I will have also one such recommendation for you in some days ;) -

Anyway, what improvement is to put some extra pixels to the right and left of the screen (widescreen)? How can this improve the dots visibility when it is still 1080p? Headwarp it is simple, your 27" screen with 1080p has smaller pixels than the 40" screen on 1080p (assuming 1080p is max). So it will show more pixelated on the 40". I personally dont have any problem with pixelation as far as I see what I need. So maybe try to play with the game graphics settings also, maybe you can find the sweet spot between acceptable picture and still visible things. -
this is good bug, why report? :D

perfect balance of the damaged AI planes on the ground is common for many DCS models. maybe it is because of the simplified AI damage modeling in game.

as stated before, we already have civ plane in DCombatS, it is the free TF-51 ! and as also already stated, if you think that you can cutilize civ planes/helos with actual game setup, just go ahead :)

You guys are awesome!!! I will take the ALBATROSS :D

I talked to my ISP support guy and he told me that they dont block any ports by intention, but he will check twice. anyway friend of mine suggested me to try 'netstat -o', attached are the results: 1) first netstat cmd shows me connected to the server and in the levitating plane over the runway = 2x ESTABLISHED 2) second netstat shows the same situation but few seconds later = 2x CLOSE_WAIT 3) third netstat shows me kicked for some reason from the server and back in MP lobby = 1x ESTABLISHED 4) forth netstat shows me connected to other server where I wasnt able to Esc and go to the roles selection, I was stacked on the map = 1x CLOSE_WAIT after that I Ctrl+Alt+Del out of the game.. hope it will be of some help thx

yes, I watched also some Su25T/CA video where you worked on the some ground units. Also very well done!

Statistics! WOW  PS: IMHO 'Kill/Death ratio' is more common phrase for 'ratio of Air Wins to Lost Planes'. Or I will rather call it 'Wins/Loses' instead of just 'K/L' to make it more clear to users. I am just suggesting, feel free to do it your way :)

nice work on that video  this is one of the videos where I dont mind watching it for all 10mins as you do the cockpit views / external views / target views etc. - real short movie ;)

BIGNEWY it definitely have to be the ports. I just checked the renaming of that folder and nothing new... but I am connecting the pieces of memories now in my head and it seems to have something to do not with the 1.2.16 patches but rather the change of the ISP I did around that time. I will call my ISP tomorrow regarding the ports you mentioned. Will let you know. thx
