  1. Here’s an excellent documentary with a good mix of HD footage, CGI shots, and some real WWII footage: https://youtu.be/_AcxaijRXQY
  2. Interesting video clip. The P-47 seems to stay in the “hit box” for quite a long time... I don’t see any tracers so it’s hard to tell if the FW-190 had mg ammunition and was actively firing or maybe he only had cannons so he was taking longer to line up the shot. There is one confirmed hit... and it does look to be cannon fire on the left wing. It flames up but then extinguishes. I wish their was more data along with the clip! It looks like the P-47 survived though... assuming that was all the damage he sustained.
  3. I wouldn’t mind flying a FC3 style P-47 while they procure the data needed for the full flight model. It may be a good way for ED to make back some money that they’ve already spent on the 3d model at least. Also it could be a good indicator as to which plane should be modeled next. Release several FC3 type aircraft at $9.99 and which ever sells the most would obviously be the more popular plane and would deserve the most attention when releasing an advanced flight model.
  4. Is wind tunnel data the last of the info they are looking for? Couldn’t ED team up with a company that has an airworthy P-47 and get one in a wind tunnel? Sort of a “lend us your plane and pay half of the wind tunnel rental and in exchange we’ll develop a realistic sim for you to practice in so you don’t crash the real thing.” Seems like there would be enough “other” agencies interested in the info as well that would like to donate to the cause. Historical documentation people, WW2 enthusiasts... that sort of thing. This type of info is invaluable and doesn’t need to be lost to the ages like Greek fire and what-not. Another issue I have... is even if they can recreate a brand new “virtual” P-47 as described in factory documents... it still won’t perform as well as a field modded hot rod. How do they get an authentic performance when so many were buffed by their maintenance team?
  5. I'll just be happy to see some WIP screenshots... even if it's just 3D models that aren't even in the game environment yet!
  6. Speaking of napalm (and getting back on the P-47 topic)... Here's a P-47 being loaded up with napalm:
  7. I like the pilot accounts of the radar-guided anti-aircraft-artillery towards the end of the documentary. The buzzing in the headsets is a detail I hope DCS includes!
  8. Yeah I think that's the "real" reason why the P-47 module has been delayed so long. If it was released into an air-to-air only scenario the majority of the people would use the P-47 incorrectly and complain. It would get bad reviews and sales would be hurt. It's better that the P-47 be billed as an A2G asset that a few guys can master in A2A situations.
  9. The P-47M would be awesome.... and a P-47N for Pacific theaters!
  10. I googled Raymond M. Walsh and found another caption that said he flew through the explosion and safely returned to base.
  11. P-47 Thunderbolt piloted by Captain Raymond M. Walsh of the 406th Fighter Group is silhouetted against the exploding ammunition truck he just strafed, France, 23 June 1944. The image was taken by his wingman’s gun camera in the following P-47.
  12. I'm looking forward to escorting B-17's into enemy territory, and then once we are relieved, scouting the countryside for locomotives on the way back in my P-47!!!
  13. I saw the Normandy update video on Facebook this morning. Pretty impressive!...but I would have liked to see a couple P-47's. Maybe DCS isn't having trouble finding information on the most produced allied fighter of the war... maybe they know it'll be outclassed in "air-quake" as some people have said... and they are just stalling... waiting on the release of some allied ai bombers to lift dogfights to higher altitudes to keep the P-47 complaints down! Just a conspiracy theory! lol!
  14. Neat story! While refurbishing/rebuilding a P-47, mechanics peeled back the skin to find the name of two "Rosie Riveters" named Edith and Eva. Now they are searching for the two! Hope they find them! http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/02/us/wwii-plane-mystery-eva-and-edith-trnd/index.html?sr=fbCNN020217wwii-plane-mystery-eva-and-edith-trnd0201PMStoryLink&linkId=34043533
  15. Check out post 491 and 492 of this thread for an interesting story regarding a Brazilian P-47!
  16. ED needs to get in touch with these guys!: http://www.projects.aircorpsaviation.com/p47-story/
  17. Wasn't Brazil the last to use P-47's? Maybe they have some copies as suggested above?
  18. The inability to find important documentation on key contributors of such a historical event is EXACTLY why this DCS project is so important. This stuff needs to be recorded.... for historical reasons. It won't be long before accidents happen, just like Jackie's Revenge encountered this passed summer, and there won't be any flying examples left. More importantly than the aircraft, are the last of the WWII Veterans that we lose each day.
  19. Exactly my thoughts!!! I'm not understanding how ED is having problems finding info with so many flying examples to chose from. I've heard that only 1 flying P-47 has an operation turbo... I could see that potentially being a problem... but surely you can get most info from other sources and then last but not least get some turbo info.
  20. What data are you having trouble finding?
  21. Another find: Gallileo, Gallileo, Gallileo, Gallileo, Gallileo Figaro - magnifico!!!
  22. Looks like they've found one of the 50 Cals... The engine... And his dog tags so far!
