  1. We need a C-47 and a Grumman Goose for that!
  2. Oculus Rift/G-LOC immersion idea I was listening to a radio talk show this morning when one of the host randomly mentioned the Occulus Rift! Unfortunately it wasn't in the best of light.... It was about a new Japanese game that allows you to blow into the Rift's mic... Which allows you to blow up a girl's skirt... Revealing her panties. Article here: http://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2014/10/02/Japanese-developer-creates-skirt-blowing-VR-game/1631412257453/ Unrelatedly... Tonight I was browsing YouTube for DCS videos. I stumbled onto this one featuring the Rift: At one point the "pilot" pulls too many G's and jokingly starts G-LOC exercises (grunting and breathing hard to force blood to the brain). It was at this point that I realized DCS could use the "panty blowing tech" for G-LOC exercises! As your pilot starts to black out... You can start blowing on the mic to help keep him conscience. If you keep panting you'll really get dizzy... And you'll have to let up on the joystick to stop the virtual pilot from blacking out. It might be a neat way to add some immersion!
  3. Ever hear of the "Double Twister"?
  4. Band of Brothers was awesome.... It followed Easy Company and you got to know each individual and see their brotherhood grow as they went through all the turmoils of fighting a large, organized enemy. The Pacific is every bit as good... It just takes a bit to get used to. The characters get circulated a lot as the marines did that a lot... The terrain was different from island to island... And the enemy used guerrilla tactics... All these contribute to The Pacific feeling like it had continuity problems... It's hard to really watch a bond grow like BoB was able to show. You also couldn't see men using tactics to over come a unified enemy like in BoB... It was mostly take hits and fire back. They did a great job of showing how The Pacific was a completely different war... They emphasized this with the scene where the amphibious troop carriers breach the beach head... Drop the doors... And nothing happens.... This isn't another Normandy... It's up and personal. That being said I can't wait for this new one. I think it's based on the book called "Masters of The Air." I hope it's better than that Red Tails fiasco... I'm sure it will be better.. Hope they shed some light on how successful the P-47 was in the early days of the bombing raids.
  5. Planes with multiple variants make the most sense for DCS as far as making money is concerned. Example: ED can sell the DCS C-130 for $50, the DCS AC-130 for an additional $20 and DCS MC-130 for another $20. Once the base model is made, the variants can be made quickly and easily for little development cost (relatively... As compared to a whole new airframe) and sold for a nice little profit. I know I for one wouldn't mind paying the $90 to have the whole C-130 set. Also.... The base model C-130 is also an interesting subject. It will attract both military flight enthusiasts as well as civil flight enthusiasts. Other good choices would be the DC-3/C-47.... And then later the AC-47 Spooky. Also... Planes that can be sold full price... Like the DeHavilland Beaver, and then sell the pontoon version for $20. With FSX aging, I think there are lots of civil flight enthusiasts looking for something new. You could entice them into DCS World with a Beaver or a Grumman Goose... And still remain faithful to your current military flight enthusiast crowds.
  6. It'll be interesting to see how the jug is used in online servers. I can see a lot of people getting lured down low and getting upset with the performance. Hopefully they'll learn to stay high and boom and zoom!
  7. The P-38 didn't do to well in the Europe theater.... But I would like to see some twins made:
  8. ^ maybe it won't slip.... I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!! The newly released P-47 pic has got me all excited again. I need to save for a new computer!
  9. I think once the Spitfire (fourth plane) and the P-47 (fifth plane) are released ED will see how big the community has gotten and put precedence on the Normandy map... As well as additional WWII maps, ground objects, and more fly able aircraft. Relative to current aircraft that require avionics systems, subsystems, classified systems, red tape and government approved access.... WWII aircraft are easier to fully model as realistic as possible. Soon ED will put more emphasis on WWII products because the market is bigger and the subject matter is easily obtainable. At least that's how I see it.... I don't know why anyone would want a 50% accurately modelled F-22 to shoot down a pixel 30 miles away on guesstimated radar systems (because the real system is classified) when that person could be flying a 95% accurately modelled P-47 swooping in and pumping 8 .50 cals worth of lead into a FW-190 that's trying to takedown a straggling B-17. We'll see.... But I think this WWII market is on the cusp of exploding into something big... And I for one am excited!!!
  10. Love me some big ole' round jugs!!! I'm really glad they modelled the 5 late-war HVAR rocket stubs instead of the measly 6 bazooka tube rockets!
  11. Both versions of the aircraft you listed are identical. The RE and RA ending on the block number only denotes which factory it was built in.
  12. It would be interesting to see sales figures on the P-51.... I bet there is a surge now that it actually has an opponent in the sky. I feel that each module release will "bump" sales in all the other modules.
  13. It's un-officially slated for March 2015..... But I imagine that date will slip a few times before then.
  14. I say glue two P-51's together and make a F-82. Should be a quick and easy Korean War plane for them to pump out since they already have the P-51 modelled.
  15. I imagine he flew off his wingman/leads wing while they talked him down and he scanned his gauges.
  16. I've read about a cylinder being shot out leaving a piston flopping around in several books, as well as hearing pilots give first hand accounts in a couple documentaries. I did a search and couldn't find a specific picture that demonstrated this damage.... But it would look like the above picture... oil leaking out of one of the broken top cylinders.... Enough oil would stay in the bottom part of the engine to keep the motor from seizing. If a bottom cylinder was shot out I'd imagine the oil would all drain out and the motor would seize.
  17. Here's my Ford SVT Lightning.... It came stock with a supercharged 5.4L V8 that made 380hp..... But I rebuilt it with better rods and pistons, and put a bigger 2.3 liter Whipple supercharger in it. It's on a mild 550hp tune while I break in the new motor. Once that's done I'll swap pulleys to spin the supercharger harder. I'm hoping to make 700hp once the motor is broke in. I built it to beat corvettes down the 1/4 track. I want to be able to tow someone's car to the track... And then beat them! In the foreground is my little Parkzone P-47. Best little RC airplane I've owned! I changed the paintscheme to "Kwitcherbitchin." It's a real WWII paintscheme. Anytime the wife's nagging gets too much to handle I load up my planes and go burn a few batteries out at an old vacant field!
  18. Getting hit by 20mm cannon fire, having pistons flopping around because the cylinder was blown away, flying through trees... And still getting your butt home in one piece??? Yeah... I call that beautiful!!! P-51's...and I guess Spitfire's are nice for shining up and taking out to Air shows and such... P-47's have their own beauty... Caked on mud... Worn paint... Busted rivets... Roughed up kind of beauty. But the P-47 ALSO has nice elegant curves in its wings and tail too. I guess it's kind of like how some people like sports cars while other's like pick-up trucks. Plus that huge radial engine creates lots of real estate for pin up girls. Sooo.... Yeah... I think Jugs are beautiful... I like Jugs!
  19. I'm not sure if the 5" HVAR's were theater based or not... But I don't think the P-47's got them until the Block -40 model. I think it was just the -40 and all the P-47N's that had the rocket stubs added. All the previous models used the 3 bazooka tube type rockets.
  20. The picture I posted is an early cluster munition... I'm in a hurry before work and I don't have my references handy. I'll post up more info later. Off hand I remember the M-29 as a cluster munition that was used during WWII. Also... I'm not sure napalm had a specific name at the time. If you google "WWII napalm" you'll see many pics of guys filling napalm bombs. In the early stages of development, they just filled drop tanks with napalm jelly. They made a specific gas cap that had a fuse on it. When the drop tank hit the ground it burst and the fuse ignited it. They used 75gal, 110gal, 160gal gas tanks... Depending on how much napalm they would need... There was little visual deference between a napalm bomb and a drop tank... Except the detonation cap sticking out of the gas cap. Bombers just dropped 55gallon drums of the stuff.... But fighters needed the aerodynamics of the drop tanks. I'll post more later when I'm off work!
  21. Let's get a "P-47 wish list" going. The P-47D-30 will come fully modeled with its 8 .50 cals... So the air-to-air department is covered. As far as air-to-ground goes.... What do you think is needed to take full advantage of the P-47? I think it'll come with the basic bombs that the P-51 has.... What else should we request/hope for? As for myself... I want napalm... And cluster munitions!
  22. Hey! But the Helldiver is still a beauty! It's got some nice curves!
  23. P-61 would be awesome! Also, if they did release the F6F they could also release the nightfighter variant... Was it the F6F-N? It had a radar pod built into the wing! This brings up a point... What about variants? After making an F6F.... Adding a radar pod with working radar would be a pretty big change... I wouldn't mind paying another $50 for that... But what about a P-47D-40? The only difference between the -30 and the -40 was added dive brakes, a tail radar, and rocket brackets instead of the older bazooka tubes. How would ED handle that? Would that be a $15 addon? What about a P-47D-22? It's basically a Razorback version of the -30. (The gas tank may be a different size too... Can't remember). I wouldn't mind paying another $15 for that. Variants could be a quick and easy way for ED to make back small profit. Shoot... I'd pay $75 for a master P-47 package that pre-ordered some of the older variants.
  24. The DC-3/C-47, Wildcat, Dauntless, Helldiver, and B-17 all share the Wright R-1820 Cyclone 9 engine. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wright_R-1820
