    F-15E UFC poll

If I’m flying the mud hen, I want to fly desert shield/storm missions and what-if scenarios where Iran was drawn into the fight. Were the newer digital UFC’s available during desert shield/storm??? That’s what will influence my mind the most!
  2. Without the dorsal fin would have a little more yaw instability. No one has previewed the dive recovery flaps yet!!! Just realized!
  3. When a couple GR crashes into each other and Cap had to crash land it looked like the normal stopped propeller was still displayed along with the bent propellor. Did anyone else notice? It was the part when Cap landed on the cliff of Dover and then slid down the cliff. May just be a multiplayer issue.
  4. Hope we get cluster bombs and napalm too!
  5. Yes, the P-47 wasn’t downing many Luftwaffe planes in those few months, but bombers were. After all, this was a war of attrition. There were a lot of bomber losses, but they were taking some Luftwaffe planes with them. Don’t forget the fuel dumps and factories the bombers were hitting. Just because there weren’t a lot of P-47’s shooting down planes doesn’t mean that the German opposition wasn’t changing due to losses in bomber engagements, lower quality airframes, shortages of fuel, engine replacements, and quality of oil. The Luftwaffe could be VERY different in just a few months time.
  6. So the U.S. could send tons and tons and tons of supplies to Europe in Liberty Ships... but Congress feared drop tanks would anger the Axis powers???? "My estimates" that you speak of, aren't my estimates at all. The distances I mentioned (Razorbacks to the German border/Razorbacks with drop tanks to Frankfurt, Kassel, or Hanover) are from the map in Greg's video that is an actual USAAF chart showing those ranges drawn. I agree. The P-51 was tons more aerodynamic and the engine less thirsty. So it had greater range. It may also have been considered more competitive against enemy, I'd just like to point out that the enemy the P-51 saw was vastly different than the enemy the P-47 saw. By the time the P-51 come unto it's own, the enemy had already lost a lot of its most seasoned pilots due to attrition. This is why I'm so adamant that the P-47 get it's credit where it's due. It was used against some of the best the Luftwaffe had to offer, and it DID (eventually) escort bombers and conduct fighter sweeps all the way to Berlin. Exactly! Which is why I liked Greg's video. It explained the prejudice against the P-47 was due to "simplified history" when there are much more complexities involved!
  7. This one: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/58103-p47-throttle-quadrant-project/ This dude is cnc’ing his own throttle! Wish he could make more of them, or we could get a company to make them!
  8. If long range escort fighters were so obviously needed from the onset of war why did Hap Arnold “direct that no tactical airplane will be equipped with droppable auxiliary fuel tanks” on April 29, 1939? This is the mindset of the top USAAF officials I was talking about. The technology was there... but they refused to spend any money on it. If they had, the P-47 could have reached mid Germany from the start, and the two disastrous raids on Schweinfurt might have had different outcomes! Most Razorbacks carried 305 gallons of internal fuel, while the Bubbletops carried 370 gallons of internal fuel. Not really a “ridiculously small amount.” The Razorbacks could make it to the German border with no drop tanks, and all the way to Frankfurt, Kassel, or possibly even Hanover with the 75 gallon drop tank. Remember that the P-51 only had 180 gallons of internal fuel without the extra internal tank kit and 269 gallons if retrofitted with the kit. Also! Remember that the rear internal tank had to be burned dry before combat because of balance issues! I know the P-51 was more aerodynamic and still got better range, but you believing the P-47 had a “ridiculously small amount of fuel” just goes to show how disparaged the P-47 has been throughout the years! I think we’re in agreement here. The bomber barons had the U.S. set up with great bombers... but also outdated and I’ll-equipped fighters. Had they funded drop tanks from the beginning, the P-47 could have made it to Berlin and back from the onset of the war. Because they didn’t, everyone believes the P-47 was trash and the P-51 was the best.
  9. You mean Col. Cass Hough? The guy that had to develop the 110 gallon paper tank in-theater because the Bomber Mafia prohibited drop tank development on pursuit aircraft stateside? Look... All I’m saying is that mistakes were made, the powers-that-be covered their asses with biased documents, and those documents have been used as the gospel on why the P-47 was inferior to the P-51. In reality, with the use of drop tanks, the P-47 could escort the B-17 as far as the B-17 could go.
  10. So you’re saying the U.S. had the logistical and operational ability to put P-47’s in crates and ship them to the front as needed.... but lacked the ability to do the same with drop tanks? It was not a logistics problem, nor a operational technicality problem. It was the top brass’ policies that created the problem. In the video Greg shows that the P-47 (mathematically) could have escorted the B-17’s on their bombing raids in 1943, before the P-51’s arrived in theater. Math is not subjective. The reason the P-47’s did not escort the bombers early on was not due to logistics or operational technicalities. It was due to the short sightedness of the top brass and their “bomber centric” notions. The “bomber mafia’s” beliefs caused a lot of unnecessary deaths. They covered their asses by comparing a late model P-51 to an early model P-47 to create a false narrative that they did not have escort aircraft capable of making it to Berlin until the P-51 arrived.
  11. Just another dude regurgitating wikipeadia without taking the time to watch a video!
  12. I agree. A lot of needless death because a group of people thought the bombers were untouchable. I wonder how many of the members of the “Bomber Mafia” got kick backs or incentives from Boeing? “Don’t spend money on drop tanks, instead buy X more bombers!” It would be interesting if there were some way to prove it... but I’m sure there were no paper trails. Maybe look up each individual member and see if any of them had jobs at Boeing after the war!
  13. Did you watch the aforementioned video?
  14. Awesome video on the myth that P-51’s were the only USAAF fighter that could escort bombers all the way to Berlin. Very interesting hearing about the “Bomber Mafia” and how they manipulated info to cover their asses.
  15. The P-47 is close to being released (was said to be released in May) and I believe a WW2 version of the Mariannas islands is in the works... so there should be a bump in activity soon!
  16. Soooo.... now that the super carrier has been released... that means we’re next... right?
  17. The P-47 was a high altitude air superiority fighter. That’s why it out performs all the other aircraft at higher altitudes. Once air superiority was achieved they changed to a fighter bomber role. This change put them at lower altitudes that required the paddle prop. Saying the P-47 sucks because it was updated throughout its life and it’s different roles would be like saying the F-15C must have sucked for them to put conformal fuel tanks and a back seater to make it an F-15E.
  18. Here’s a decent little page about some of the variants: http://www.368thfightergroup.com/P-47-2.html
  19. Better technology. The P-47 was probably one of the most revised allied aircraft. I think first combat ready aircraft was the P-47C, then the P-47C-5, P-47D, D-5, D-10.... so on and so on... all the way to the P-47D-40... and then the P-47M, and P-47N. There were many variations of engines and props as well. As better technology was developed, the P-47 was changed on the assembly line.
  20. Yeah I’d totally love the latest version of the Razorback! The model right before they went to the bubbletop.
