  1. Thanks for posting Chuck. That was a pretty fun impromptu flight. Like d0o0m said I wish I had known you were filming, ha ha. Hope to see you around again soon!
  2. I might get booed off this thread for suggesting this, but if the rubber thing becomes a major hang up you could always go with that wrap they use on road bikes. It wouldn't be lagit but it would be functional for a limited run.
  3. Try sending a pm to const. He was the one who hooked me up. First I changed my forum account to have the same email as my kickstarter.
  4. That would be an awesome way to modify a CH yoke. I would need to make the radio button operational though.
  5. Awesome! That is interesting how small the handle is. I remember walking through the WWII uniform section at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum and thinking the same thing... People were smaller back in the 40's.
  6. :megalol: that was epic!
  7. Nice! ha ha I think I get a little complacent on those longer flights... I was all over the place.
  8. Thats awesome! I remember that. I have to check when I get home but I think I have a screen shot of the rudder all messed up but still attached. Do you have the clip of when you stripped me of my right elevator in rout to shoot down the general's plane? One of my favorite moments happen when I was trying to get clips for this video. I did a barrel roll around this 190 then watched his canopy narrowly miss my plane as it went flying by after I made him eject... I couldn't figure out how to embed a movie at a particular time so just fast forward to a little before 2:00 or click
  9. Not to mention closing the canopy... Actually, I think I get what SandMartin was trying to show. It may not have been to the book but he did demonstrate that one could take off and land relatively quickly. I was actually impressed with how little landing bounce there was on the aggressive approach. However, no doubt I probably would have poo-ed myself had that been a TF-51 and I was riding passenger.. .
  10. Since no one was flying tonight I put some more finishing touches on the skin and took her up for a spin. These screen shots are a little premature but I couldn't resist.
  11. Indeed, given how far this has come already I am pretty optimistic at this point. By the way, beer is just about the ONLY currency we deal in here in Portlandia
  12. I think I am going to have to find a way to deliver some beer to Jersey ;) I got a response from Darryl Vickers (the author of the movie I posted). I didn't get a lot of information except that he said he would put me in touch with his dad who might have more pictures of Mattison's P-51. Here is some work in progress of the nose.
  13. Here is another picture I found in that same book. The capion reads: There is a small description of the mission as well on Pg. 68. They flew to two separate airbases they destroyed 15 Fw 190's and 2 Bf 109's and one SM.84 transport, as well as a locomotive on its way home.
  14. Yeah not much there in the video, I sent him a message though, hopefully he will respond.
  15. I found this guy Darryl Vickers, based on this video: [VV]49850323[/VV] I'm guessing he will have a lot of information on William T. Mattison. I'm am going to try and contact him.
  16. Wow, Merlin you're the man! Really don't know how to thank you for this. Where and how did you find that information? I'm going to continue to try and dig up some more photos of the plane. I'd love to make a skin for DCS.
  17. I don't want to be too specific in case my prediction is wrong because then I might appear to be too soft shoe when I have to back peddle off stage... But since you asked, I chose to double up on the 262 and the 109. Since I chose the 190, alpha access, and the strategy guide (because we both know I need to work on my game) I want to use my extra flyables for gifts. I think the licensing will be pretty similar to how the system works now. Each flyables you chose will have a key that will allow you to fly in DCS:W or DCS:WWII. What I am unsure of is if they will let us double up when it comes to choosing our six flyables. I can see pros and cons two both scenarios but ultimately I think it would be to everyone's benefit if we are allowed to double up. First we backed at a level to receive all the planes so they are essentially paid for and in the books. I don't think ED or RRG will care who is flying those planes. But on the con side they could be missing out on potential customers who might have otherwise purchased license for the planes that would have hypothetically been gifted to them by a backer. At the same time how smart would it be to give the committed backers a chance to bring in new people. Most of us would gift our extra keys to someone who we think is likely to get attached to the sim. It's direct word of mouth marketing at its best. I think that could be a lot more effective then buying some advertisement on Facebook or something with a shotgun approach.
  18. I'm actually Tlingit, certified born and raised Alaskan, don't worry that also means I'm a US citizen because I know you AZ guys like to know that kind of thing. If you truly were trying to tell people to be patient try exercising a little more class also consider that talking about these kinds of topics is how some of us choose to wait patiently. P.S. Thanks for the last words that's really kind of you. I can only hope someone else can come up with something to possibly salvage this thread.
  19. Ok cool, thanks for clearing that up for me.
  20. I got a little better picture of the nose. I think it could say little Mac but it also looks like Mac might be a part of another word. Edit: little Mac 1502, or little ma C1502?
  21. So that book came in the other day. The plane pictured on page 100 and the plane in my grandfathers photo are definitely the same. It's hard to tell in either photo but the first word on the nose is little. The caption in the book says the P-51 is from the 100th FS 'rides herd' it's unclear to me if this is the plane's name or a name for the squadron. A quick google search didn't produce any promising results. Also tried searching for either of the Purwinis. What is interesting though is that my grandfather was part of the 450th bomber group so maybe both these pictures were taken close to the same time when this guy did a close pass by the B-24's.
  22. Hijacking? Come on man, it might not have been right on point but it had everything to do with how ED plans to license the flyable aircraft. Redefining a thread that you didn't start however, could be made into an argument for hijacking...
  23. Seriously? Your opening comment in this thread was far from civil. Butting in like that without a single bit of constructive input about the topic at hand is a quick way to try and start something.
  24. I realize this is a huge pipe dream, but going along with what Sith said, I have always dreamed about the day we could have a 1st person shooter/combined arms type simulator/flight simulator all in one. Basically Something like the ARMA series but WWII ED style with realistic flight models. I played the WWII add-on for ARMA II a little and while I didn't have much interest in being a foot solder or tank operator, I had lot of fun flying in a P-51D responding to air strikes called in by real people on the ground. Even though the flight model of the mustang was below arcade status. I think it would also be cool if you had to bail out and find your way back to friendly troops or a rescue plane which could kind of follow what Merlin was saying. Basically I want a big virtual sandbox set in WWII.
  25. Nice, I can't wait to start seeing some of this assembled!
