  1. Simply save your P-51D profiles for each device (I use a custom made switch panel, X52 throttle, and a SWFFB2 stick, and CH peddles so I have a few) then just select the TF-51 from the drop down menu, highlight a command in the column of the device you wish to load your P-51 profile to then select load profile, navigate to your save P-51D profile and you are done. Now repeat for every device you use, make sure you select the right corresponding column. Also note that I think you have to do it twice for each device, once for the digital command inputs and once for the axis designations.
  2. Yep, believe it or not, that was more or less the conclusion of my little story. Our options are limited as backers and all we can do is hang tight or bail... There is always time to bail it might not change our fate however. P.S. I probably deserve some reduction in respect... Sometime I assume everyone is here just to waste another day at work. :P
  3. Its not worth reading... Actually I was mostly envisioning the meeting happening over the phone and due to the time zone difference between Cali and Russia it probably meant that one of them was either in bed or just getting up. again per speculation here lol Edit: P.S. if you just read the first few sentence I hope you know I was not trying to be taken seriously. I'm just bored at work again.
  4. Well everyone else is speculating so I figure I would share my opinion. It all started back when the vision of DCS WWII was conceived by Ilya. He probably had a single meeting with Wags that outlined his vision. For whatever reason (maybe the time difference between Cali and Russia meant one of them was half asleep) a vision was born but the execution was not fully understood by both parties. Ilya gets the green light for KS, he hashes out a budget and launches the fundraiser for DCS WWII. Perhaps Ilya was basing his budget on some misunderstanding that ED would be providing a lot more resources (this might account his vague funding from other investors comment on KS), maybe he didn't have the proper experience with DCS development that even qualified him to make such an estimate, or his plan to execute his portion of the deal was simply mismanaged, or perhaps one hot summer day male bovine fecal matter started hitting the fan in the building's AC system which disrupted everyone concentration so much that nothing was getting done... Whatever the cause Ilya is now forced to meet with Wags for the second time, probably with a well thought out plan that involved ED dumping a ton more money and manpower into developing DCS WWII. Wags being the intelligent business man that he is probably saw this coming and already had decided to cut ties with Ilya beforehand because Ilya is a liability and not an asset to them. Now here ED is, left with a project they didn't start, which has been managed in a way that is not congruent with their style, and you can be sure there is still plenty of fecal matter left over at the RRG office that has to be dealt with before any more progress on DCS WWII can be made. Anyways, that's my story and I'll probably not going to stick to it. As a backer I kind of feel like I am riding passenger seat in a friend’s car on a long road trip. We both agreed to go to the same place in the beginning. It's just not up to me how we get there. And since it's my friend’s car you better believe he has every right to hotbox the vehicle after we just stopped at a Mexican restaurant for dinner. In that case the only thing you can do is close your eyes and pretend it’s your own or tuck and roll. Really, the choice is yours :pilotfly:
  5. Given that I am an ME and not an EE I can't really say with an expert opinion... But to me it makes sense that it would work, with the mod you are essentially doubling the current so you could potentially run all four motors in parallel on one board. Just don't forget to reverse the polarity of the other two motors. The original evil genius that came up with this mod (reference link in my first post) gives some recommendations for better motor specs, as well as MOSFETS and other improvements to the circuit for dealing with the heat. I would suggest contacting him if you really want an expert opinion. Another thing to consider is counter weight, you might be pleasantly surprised by the performance gain if you do this simple resistor mod in conjunction with adding a counter weight much like PeterP did. If you think about it just enough to get yourself in trouble, doubling the current gives you approximately double the force, plus adding the counter weight might give you something pretty close to what PeterP has achieved with two sticks. I know it's probably not that simple but it makes sense to me if I think about it like that. If I ever decide to add a cougar stick or something with a lot of weight I will definitely consider adding the counter weight. As its is, when I enter a stall my whole chair shakes a noticeable amount, if you keep adding more force via bigger motors and a better circuit you might find your results will be a little more than over the top, that's why a counter weight is a really good idea.
  6. I have to agree better to put all of this behind us, but I was think more along the line of the point system that is already in place. ED would need to establish the value of a single reward tier and credit it to the backers profile just like they do when a customer purchases one or more modules at full price. I think this could be the easiest way to make everyone happy and essentially putting all of this behind us because the issue would be settled. This is just a hunch but any amount of coupon ED could give to the bakers to end this mess I assume would only be a drop in the bucket compared to any gains they predict on getting from future content.
  7. Going along with what I just said about incentives, why not establish some kind of point system for the different tier levels that a backer could redeem for future content or other ED modules?
  8. I'm not sure what kind of legal mess it would make if people don't get the physical reward they were basing their pledge on. I saw a link somewhere regarding the first kickstarter lawsuit and the last thing I think ED needs is to get tangled up with something similar. I have no idea where the line is drawn between partnership with Luther and ED. If ED is distant enough from Luther that they can legally remove themselves from the KS then that is probably for the best. Hopefully all that has to be shown to avoid any kind of lawsuit is evidence that an attempt was made to fulfill the contract with the backers. My gut feel is no matter what the majority decides, someone will put up a fight. Something to throw around the office though Sith, might be to add an option to wave the physical content on the the DCS backer page. That could be a really quick way for ED to see where everyone stands anonymously. It would also highlight those who maybe don't know whats going on yet because obviously their options would not have anything selected. I also think you guys could try to come up with some kind of incentive to get people to wave the physical content. Would it be more cost effective to make a custom configuration or variation of some of the planes in trade for physical content? Hell, I know I would give up a reward tier or two for the P-51B variant. Or, the B-17 AI was never part of the original KS, could that be tide into an added incentive to wave the physical content. Or how about a custom backer skin? Not being a developer I have no experience to backup what I am suggesting so excuse me if I am way off base. As far as a strategy manual, maybe see if we could organize a community one. Just an idea but ED could developed a format for people to submit their best strategies?? I'm not sure if that could work, but I'm just trying to brainstorm here. Also, does ED plan to create a manual for all of the planes to the same degree as the P-51 or FW-190? As long as PDF's exist of the manuals I don't think it should be hard to get people to wave those options.
  9. Awesome stuff! Damn that takes skillz!
  10. Ha ha, just tell them you thought they were in series and not parallel then 1+1=2 :) It sounds like you and I are thinking the same. I was concerned how two combined sticks would work as DCS continues to evolve which is why I tried this mod. I'd say extend your stick like you plan to, then maybe give this mod a try, it's simple enough it's worth testing. If it's not enough then you have your answer.
  11. I would be all for it as long as it doesn't stop ED from posting Alpha images or updates. My gut says it won't. I would think that ED would treat the closed backer forum the same as an open forum because its like Sith said it all gets out eventually.
  12. I get what you are saying, but to me it's not about the money. However, my investment only puts me at the three matrix teir level so that's not saying much. I am disappointed because I feel there is more at stake than just RRG's reputation. How many people are out there right now who have only heard how frustrated the backers are with this project? And from that group, how many of them will not give the p-51 a chance because they believe, with good reason, DCS WWII will amount to nothing more than Luther's past endeavors? Maybe the perception will change once the sim is released but I feel like there has been more damage done here than anyone can really put a figure to. Especially now that their is real compotition. I know if I was just getting into the WWII genre, I would be considering other options for sure. Fortunately, DCS has its good side but you have to want to try it before you can experience it. That's where communication a PR become so important.
  13. I really don't buy the NDA argument the slightest bit. I am blown away by Luther's refusal to communicate with us. VEAO does a fine job of managing development, PR, and they even manage to participate in a virtual squadron. There is absolutely no excuse why Luther cannot have more of a presence on here...NONE!! Are we suppose to believe that in a 40 hr work week he is so busy trying to deliver on his promises that he doesn't have 10-20 min to drop by and do some damage control, surely anything is better than nothing? Whatever concoction of reason and justification he has in his head about not communicating with us has to be borderline delusional. I'll sit tight and try to enjoy the ride, I will even do my best to remain positive, but this whole thing is a disappointing mess.
  14. If you really want to learn quick, go through the manual, but also jump on teamspeak on one of the mentioned servers and at least in my experience just about everyone will be willing to talk to you about flying the mustang.
  15. Damn straight! ha ha
  16. My only gripe too. Maybe it happened a few times but you're absolutely correct, it breaks immersion. It seems like such a silly issue to have on such an advance simulator. It's almost a guarantee, get in a fight with several AI and you will be defeated by your governor. Other than that I would just like to see more visual effects.
  17. Damn, I missed it. I guess I'll just have to take your word for it. What's another 3 months right?
  18. Yep, I knew one post in 2014 was way low. In the first week after we got the backer forum and the beta backer site on DCS I thought his level of support and presence was on point. Unfortunately, he has gone MIA again. I have no doubt that we are going to get some kind of WWII addition to DCS by the time this is all said and done. I am only disappointing because I think crowd funding is an excellent way to rapidly expand the genre, when done correctly, and it's pretty apparent to me at this point that we won't be seeing a successful B-17 Kickstarter or anything of the like anytime soon. Five years from now when other 3rd parties like VEAO have released their WWII modules and we finally have a bomber we'll all look back at this as a minor bump in the road, however it will only take us years to get there…
  19. Ha ha been there, sounds like you need a wingman ;)
  20. Interesting link Sith, thanks for sharing!
  21. I think it depends on what your ultimate goal is. If you want to replace the stick with a cougar, or something with a lot of weight, you probably want a system like PeterP's. Obviously it's a much more robust system. I thought I ordered a 1/4w resistor that's why I ordered new ones. You actually want to reduce the resistance so if you go the rout of replacing the original ones make sure it's a 1/2 ohm not a 2 ohm. Sadly Chief I'm use to it, not sure if too fun to resist was an intended pun but touché brother I can't compete with that ha ha.
  22. Well I have about 92 left over if you would like me to send you some. I'll just warn you that I order the really small ones on accident so soldering them to the existing ones was a real pain in thee arse! You would be better off going with a SMD SMT 2512 6432 Chip Resistors. you can grab 50 for a little more than $5 on ebay here. In fact, I just ordered some so if you are in no hurry I'll shoot a few over to you when I get them :D Edit: Wow I got the egg on my face I just now noticed you were commenting on my grammar... lol Unfortunately, that is not my strong suit :)
  23. I've posted a few pictures before on my extended stick mod for my SWFFB2 but I'm going to try and combine all my mods to my stick here in this post. If you are interested in doing any of these mods yourself but could use a little more details let me know and I'll be happy to fill in the blanks. I did three basic things: Increase the length of my stick. rerouted a base button to the top of my stick for a shift/modifier key. Increase the current to the force feedback motors to compensate for the longer stick. Starting off, I cut the very base of the joystick and bent an aluminum tube I got at homedepot to fit my arrangement. I cut and drilled out the center of a bolt (for the wire to pass threw) to fasten the stick to the aluminum tube. By the time I was done it looked something: Note: This was my first attempt at making a longer handle, I have since reduce the length by maybe 4" from the time I took this picture. I didn't waste time making a mount for my chair as you can tell by its quality. However, you can see with this setup the four base buttons on the stick are pretty much useless. I wanted to add a shift/modifier button that I could easily access with one hand so I tapped into one of the base buttons like so: Then made a small hole in the stick and added a button. I'm not terribly happy with the final outcome of this mod so I will probably improve on it later. For now, it service its purpose. After flying with this setup for a while one thing became really apparent. The added length in the stick significantly reduce the force feedback and centering force effect of the joystick. Taking guidance from these instructions I made a plan to fix this problem: http://www.simprojects.nl/ms_siderwinder_ff2_hack.htm I will try to spare everyone the technical mumbo-jumbo but basically if you want to double the current to the motors you need reduce the resistance to the current sense resisters. This might not make sense to some but adding another resister in parallel will reduce the original resistance "R" by 1/(1/R+1/R). since the original resistance it actually 1 ohm simply adding another 1 ohm resister to the original one will halve the resistance of the original circuit thus doubling the current which essentially puts the stick on steroids. Now some would say that this will be hard on the motors and the rest of the components of the circuit. And to that I would say, you are absolutely correct. However, I contacted the guy who originally did this mod and told him my plan. He actually added better MOSFET's and capacitors to the circuit to account for the increase current, but his setup required him to quadruple the force. Simply put, if you just want to double the current the the circuit board and motors seem to handle it just fine without over heating. If you wish to go bigger you might want to consider adding a fan or something because heat becomes the real problem. So enough about that here is what I did: A flat panel resister looks like this: To reduce the resistance as I explained earlier you just need to stack another flat resister on top of the eight that I highlighted in the picture below. I ordered my resisters off ebay, I think I got over 100 1 ohm roisters for like $7 or something cheap like that. I have been using my stick with these mods, all of about a week now. I have not noticed any over heating issues yet and there is definitely a noticeable difference in the force of the stick. I'll continue to update this every once in a while to track if this mod significantly reduces the life of the stick. Right now my FFB2 is my back up stick (although now its the only one I fly with) so if it decide to crap out on me at least I got more use out of it instead of it just taking up space on my shelf.
  24. With all this talk about recon flights I figure I would share a clipping from Robin Olds memoir about his experience as a recon Pilots. Its a bit long so only read if you are interested I guess. I’ll paraphrase the rest… He goes on to completes the mission but only makes one pass. When he got back to HQ he told Tommy that he only made one pass which put him up in arms (probably spewing colorful language). Then Olds went on to tell them that the other passes would have looked the same as the first pass because the bombers completely missed their target… Such is life! This whole book was a kick in the pants. Here is a picture of the camera port on a Recon Mustang: and a preview of a new skin we hope to use on future recon missions. Anyways, no coop officially planned for this weekend but that doesn't mean we aren't flying. We are currently in the process of brainstorming some ideas for the next mission, so if you have anything you would like to suggest let us know. I thought last week was a success for DoW but it would be awesome to get a few others outside of our group involved.
