  1. Seriously sick! Have you already decided how you are going to mount all your axis inputs? Are you planning on using hall or photometers? I'm really curious to see how all these part will fit together.
  2. Nice clean flight!
  3. Yeah I noticed that and that's why I decided to test it. However, I need to swallow my pride. after seeing that it wasn't mentioned in the change log I tried to do a quick test... well in my haste I forgot to turn on the battery  I realized this after I saw that it was working for everyone else. my bad I'll try to be more careful before I jump to conclusions next time.
  4. I just updated to 1.2.8.27915 which was released today. If they fixed this in the beta why didn't they fix it in this latest release? I still can't turn on the TF-51 external lights.
  5. Man I can't wait to see. Thanks for continuing to update your progress.
  6. Nice one, the shots of the flak I took don't really do it justice, it was pretty amazing just watching it track the group. I really enjoy having it in these missions.
  7. Really nice Tom, I love the attention to detail you put into these. The spec layers make the metal look fantastic!
  8. DoW After Action Review Mission: Prying Eye v1.5 Date: 5/25/14 Participants: Chief; d0o0m; DavidRed; Hattrick; Balto; Polaris Victories: Chief(2)-2; DavidRed(2)-2; Polaris(1)- 1 Ground Units Destroyed: d0o0m(1)-5; Chief(2)-2 Casualties: Balto(1); DavidRed(1); Chief(1); Polaris(1) Summary: Red flight consisted of Balto (Recon Red1), Polaris (Red2), Hattrick (Red3) Blue flight consisted of Chief (Blue1), DavidRed (Blue2) Red flight was tasked with achieving the primary object. Blue flight was given freedom to pursue any opposition the group encountered. Upon arriving at the target, DavidRed(1) took a direct hit from flak, no chute was reported to have been seen before his plane hit the ground. FW-190’s were sighted as the group approached the target area. Balto(1) managed to get a picture of the objective, however, Red flight was immediately ambushed by four or more FW-190’s. Hattrick(1) spotted the first one and broke hard in pursuit. Polaris stayed close to Balto trying to put his plane between his lead and the attacking 190’s as they tried to egress back to base. The 190’s were determined not to let Red flight escape. Their efforts were not in vain as both Balto(1) and Polaris(1) never made it back to base. Blue1 never returned to base as well. Hatttick continued to chase a 190 south to the coast when he was forced to break pursuit after he was jumped by two more 190’s. Low on Ammo and fuel, he tactfully drew the 190’s to the cost. d0o0m(1) and chief(2) scrambled to Hattrick(1)’s aid. They intercepted the perusing 190’s and got them to break off Hattrick(1) who manage to land back at base. Chief witness two of the 190’s take a direct hit from flak. Each hit more spectacular than the other. Balto(2) joined up with d0o0m(1) to fly back to the target and take a second run at achieving primary objective. Meanwhile the remaining members of the group continued to engage the enemy in a dog eat dog battle for supremacy. Hattick(1) thought he had rearmed his aircraft but to his dismay he discovered the full extent of his misfortune when he got in perfect firing position behind a 190 only to hear nothing as he squeezed the trigger. After a second photo was taken of the objective Balto(2) cut loose from d0o0m(1) so he could complete the second objective. Chief(2) joined d0o0m(1) and together they were able to destroy the convoy and complete the second objective. Balto(2) made it back base with the photos thus completing the primary objective. 9. I know some of us experienced some performance issues but I myself didn't notice it much. I believe most of the issues were do to the overcast clouds. I think I only saw flak track one or two planes at a time so I would say this mission was not a real good stress test for the flak script. Hopefully we'll get more participants next time. You'll have to ask Merlin about the specific server specs. I know he recently moved and his network provider is quite a bit better than it use to be.
  10. Ah sorry man. You will get a chance to fly this mission or some variant of it I'm sure. Thanks for trying though.
  11. Also I just wanted to add that there is not a lot of difference between an element lead and wingman, so don't feel like you have to have any special qualifications to fly any position. pretty much get your bird up and make an effort to join up in your group (for your own benefit you know safety in numbers kind of thing). The f10 map will be available should anyone feel they need a little assistance finding there way.
  12. Awesome thank you! No Problem. I think I'll put Hattrick in Blue #6 pos. and you in Blue #2. Don't be intimidated about the formation stuff it's just a guideline that gives us something to work toward. Really we just want to have a good time and you can't do that if your not trying. If you know for sure you can't make it let us know, but at the end of the day I think most of us have a pretty good understanding that real life takes precedence so don't sweat it if you can't make it last minute. Like I mentioned this is just going to be a trial run, we want to start doing something like this on a weekly or bi-weekly bases. We really just want your feedback so we can expand on the things that worked as well as make changes to the things that didn't go so well.
  13. That was a damn good time, definitely one for the book! Thanks for writing this up, I'll see if I can post a few screenshots later to go with.
  14. For a while now DoW has been flying combat coops with each other and a select few who happen to wonder to the server while we are there. I thought it might be a good idea to start this thread in case there are others actively seeking to participate in combat coops. With that said I would like to encourage anyone interested in joining us for a trial run of a scheduled community combat coop this Sunday. Eventually we will add player opposing aircraft but for this first one we will all fly as one team. Also note this mission will include objectives that only the new TF-51D can achieve. We hope this will bring in people who may not have the P-51D but want to see what it's like. You might also be interested d0o0ms After Action Review of this mission when we flew it earlier here. If this turns out to be successful we hope to expand on it. I think the ultimate goal might be to set up an event on Saturday or Sunday that everyone regardless of experience or affiliation can look forward to participating in. The scenario will look like this: OPERATION PRYING EYE By d0o0m Date: 5/25 22:00 Zulu Where: DoW Sever Teamspeak: 96.225.37.174 (Password: DoW) BACKGROUND It is September 1st, 1943. We believe the General Steinhoff and his staff have occupied our ally Stalin's dacha on the shores of Lake Ritsa. We need a recon photo of the area returned to HQ staff at Sukhumi. Destroy any convoys observed to leave the village to make a run for the train station in Byzb'. PRIMARY OBJECTIVE 1. RECON PHOTO LAKE RITSA: MAP GRID FJ21 2. RECON PHOTO SOCHI SHIPS: MAP GRID EJ52 3. DESTROY ANY RITSA CONVOYS BEFORE THEY REACH BYZB. MISSION NOTES PHOTORECON PILOT: Lift Sukhumi - Babushara in TF-51 reconnaisance platform. Sukhumi tower: 129 MHz AM Channel "A" * USE F10 MENU TO TAKE PHOTO OR RESET CAMERA IF NEEDED * YOU WILL RECEIVE AN ALERT WHEN YOUR PLANE IS WITHIN RANGE TO MAKE A SUCCESSFUL PHOTO * WINGS MUST BE LEVEL TO TAKE RECON PHOTO. WAIT FOR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF PHOTO SUCCESS * RECON PHOTOS MUST BE RETURNED TO STAFF OFFICE SAFELY TO COUNT TOWARDS SUCCESS. SEE BRIEFING PICTURE FIGHTER ESCORT: Lift Sukhumi - Babushara in P51D CAP Platform. Sukhumi tower: 129 MHz AM Channel "A" OPERATION MAP INTELLIGENCE Expect heavy ground fire and flak near the target area. We hope to catch the enemy off guard but there is always the possibility that we may encounter air to air opposition in the form of FW-190's from the nearby airdrome. This possibility only increase the longer we remain on target. FORMATION Depending on turnout we will assign a flight lead for each element flight. Each flight will be given a corresponding color followed by the planes position in the flight. The formation will be as follows: Blue 2 is Blue Leader’s wingman, Blue 3 is an element leader, and Blue 4 is his wingman; similarly, Blue 5 is an element leader and Blue 6 is his wingman. This formation is subject to change based on turnout. Anyone who does not have a P-51D license is encourage to fly one of the TF-51's to assist in the photo reconnaissance. Members of DoW are available to answer any questions you may have. It is our goal to get the community involved so please free to comment. If you are just getting started with the P-51 and need some help, grab one of us and we will be happy to get you checked out to make sure you can communicate with us on Teamspeak and you have all your keys mapped accordingly to ensure you have the most enjoyable experience. Post here and let us know if you are interested in joining us for this event. 15. I might have to steel that phrase for a more appropriate application but I can assure you that no one will be calling you a Douche-Canoe on the server ;) I know for me personally, I start to get excited when I see three or more people in there, I could really care less if they are crashing into each other.
  16. I know, that is crazy! It kind of makes this world feel small. It will most likely have to wait until I am old and retired but I have always wanted to visit the area. Maybe make a big trip out of it. First I'd start around the coordinates that I gave you then retrace his journey to the island of Vis where he saw Marshall Tito himself, (not in his usual combat fatigues but wearing a pinkish grey suit with red lapels and gold embroidery around the edges) then onto a boat to the harbor of Bari and finally back to Muraduria, Italy where their abandoned airfield still exist. It would be epic! I'll be sure to pay you a visit when that happens :D
  17. I'm not so sure the identity of the individual should be the primary focus of the issue. One individual can turn into many. I think the last thing we need is developers allocating their resources to fighting cheaters. I say let this guy do his thing, hopefully we can use this person to develop a sound way of preventing cheaters. Since we already know who he is and it's obvious he's persistent on trying to join the server, it seems like a perfect way to test methods of banning this guy from the server permanently.
  18. Oh man, see it's comments like that, that make me wish I had gone into computer science instead of engineering so I could get to work on it right now. That would seriously be great!
  19. I don't know! I talked to my grandfather a little here an there about his experience but I was pretty young at the time to fully appreciate who I was talking to. That text I quoted is a small side tangent to a short memoir he wrote about his escape from Yogoslavia after his B-24 took a flack hit which severed a fuel line. I remember him telling me that before they bailed they lighten their load by throwing guns, ammo, gear, etc. out the window. I guess the bombardier started throwing light bulbs and fuses out, one by one, as his contribution for "lighting the load". I'm Not trying to hijack the thread, but if you want to check out pictures of the plane (the Banana Boat) they jumped out of that day you can see them here. The personal in those pictures are from the crew that flew the plane before my grandfather's crew was assigned to it. Anyways, I'm right there with you guys, I'm pretty sure any movie like the Memphis Belle only give a fraction of what it must have been like as a bomber crew member, but even that is enough to make a successful movie. So it's kind of hard to imagine what it must have really been like. I like to think about the day when we could have a B-17 or something with a refined version of Sith's flak scrip and P-51 escorts flying over Europe. I don't know if you could build a single server big enough to satisfy the demand that would bring.
  20. My grandfather wrote about a similar instance in his memoir. He flew in B-24's for the 720th BS (Cotton Tails)
  21. One of my favorites too, thanks for sharing.
  22. Great to hear, this might be an inappropriate questions but will OR be running other sims there or is it exclusively DCS & OR that are putting on the demo?
  23. Yep it's times like these when I am reminded of the wise words of Shawn Farmer, "Don't sweat the petty, pet the sweaty". With that said I'am crossing my finger that this recent dry spell of updates is because RRG is preparing to release the 109 as an alpha and Luther is holding out on any kind of news until he can do just that. Of course, I have been known to be a little overoptimistic at times.
  24. For the record I'm not really interested in a pole that asks if RRG should do an MTO map instead of western France or where ever, but feel free to make one yourself. I'm not concerned about what RRG is doing, I just wanted to post a meaningless pole to maybe start some kind of discussion about what people are interested in.... I know what you mean, three weeks and no update which is fine with me especially if there is nothing to update us on. Actually, what got me thinking about this is because we were told we would get a terrain editor and I was more or less interested in knowing if the community as a whole would like to see an MTO map. I'm certainty not going to hold my breath for the terrain editor at this point but like you said it gives us something to pass the time. I have been reading a few books on mustang pilots of the MTO. Consequently, I have been studying the map as I have been going through their memoirs. I've really enjoyed searching out old aerial photos of some of the airdromes, I guess that is why I would be all in for making a detailed terrain of the area.
  25. Edit: oops I completely miss read your post.. I agree I would like to see a B-17 or something but I was thinking more of a community project if we get the map editor so that assumes it would not take away from he official release of say a new plane like a B-17. Basically this is a super big hypothetical pole, I just know that the ETO gets a lot of attention and I am mostly curious if there is any interest in the MTO.
