Thanks for the update - 30 bucks is fine for me, and I would gladly pay more, if there was an option to have FC2.0 as a stand-alone installation without the need of UBI's LockOn..... Anyway, 30$ is more than fair, since really good simulations live (almost) forever and are so much more worth than the average video-game........

While this feature was already available in DI's HIND, the low level of AI for the ground-troops would just become even more obvious. Maybe one can come up with one or two sane scenarios (e.g. picking up Special Forces), but simulating a "realistic" battle down to the level of infantry seems not to be one of the strong points of TFCSE. At the moment, ARMA II would be more promising for that (which in turn is way too simple when it comes to airplanes and has a way more limited viewing distance) :( ... old song: combining the best from two or more (sim-)worlds is impossible to achieve ;)
-
Ooops, sorry, forgot the cynicism-tags ;) Naa, really, the HIND would be a good fit for it's lack of advanced electronics, but then again, the ground- and AI-details are not that detailed for some really believable ground-supporting chopper-action....
-
Well, you obviously missed Digital Integration's Mi-24 HIND! But otherwise, congrats at being the very absolute first on the forum to suggest the HIND as a worthy helicopter for DCS.

FUGLY! ... and (still) loving it ;) To be honest, I believe, that the current level of AI- and ground-detail was "just made" for the Su-25 and A-10 ... for helicopters (KA-50, MI-24 or (W)AH-64) it is just way to simple .... anyway, looking forward to the release!!

Well, it is just a matter of time - in one year today's high-end setup will be much cheaper..... And this year will be used to get ARMA2 in even better shape, with new patches, campaigns, Add-Ons and optimizations. Personally I (still) see it as a tech-demo of what can be done. It is not perfect yet, still with some bumps, the vehicles' simulation is way too shallow, but: this is how the future of military simulations might look like... the direction it is developing is promising .... Add a more solid network-code (maybe even MMO?!), and voilà - one might end up with the perfect simulation .... one day .... *cough* year .... *cough* decade! ;)

.. with binoculars they would!! :D

Who needs a joystick if you just have "to think Russian"??? ;)

Very good read (A-10A though): http://aupress.maxwell.af.mil/catalog/books/Haun_B90.htm And I can imagine, that binoculars are faster to deploy and not limited to forward view (or any other sensor's limit), which might come handy when aircrafts circle around potential targets or patrol in some distance in order to gain some situational awareness before entering unsafe airspace.......

Cool, so where is it? After all, isn't today early 2010?!? ;-) Oh well, I can surely wait another day ....... :pilotfly:

Again, my lack of French-skills is becoming obvious (so in tune with my GF here :music_whistling:), but the plethora of pictures is really amazing. So pictures are worth a thousand words! ;) If in doubt, try this: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=fr&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.checksix-forums.com%2Fshowthread.php%3Fp%3D975196%23post975196 Thank you so much for that very sweet MOD of the day

DCS available on Steam soon please?
weasel75 replied to fearlessfrog's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
While I do not give the smallest F:music_whistling: about "steam", the idea for the "mass-market" remains valid - expose the game to a really large audience. But then again - if Steam would enforce exclusive rights, it would be a loose-loose for all of us - ED would not target the right folks, and the steam-punks (pun intended) would not get/understand ED's simulations ... mostly. So let's praise what we got. FC2.0 anyone?! :D -
How that? I am really interested in modding those pedals, since while they are still well-spaced compared to the others on the market, a little more spacing is always welcome ... and if just for a more authentic feeling, or an instrument-panel between your legs ;)

While I would not enjoy you recording videos to *my* PC ;) , here is another tool - found it a month ago, but I did not test it: http://v2.planetgamecam.com/

... then on the other hand, all participating sims still need common ground... A flightsim has a different type of terrain (large-scaled, 10m-resolution being "high-res"), while a FPS needs much more detail to be called state of the art. Vehicles on the ground are in between there, but still, they need enough detail to play "hull-down" n stuff. So how to decide, whether a soldier/vehicle on the ground is visible from above? What about the details of buildings - can a soldier in a building can be seen from a fighter/helicopter/vehicle - how to decide, when the flight-sim does not have enough detail/data at hand? Guess those problems won't be feasible in the near future, closest thing I have seen so far is ARMA (yet with a smaller area of conflict) and maybe ww2online (with bad graphics/terrain-features for infantry). .... but still, one needs a dream ;)

I am looking forward to any SSD-reports, as I am considering SSD for my upcoming rig as well :D Cheers & good luck!

Man, if that bird just that came true ... really, Tornado is da $h** ! Always makes me a bit like this: :pilotfly: -
Here I sat and was happy to read something about the beloved MechWarrior 2. :music_whistling: ... I am getting old I guess.

Oh, so Christmas got moved to the 21st now? :D It is so nice to hear about the progress with the A-10, really, it is almost like Christmas for me. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

Pleaaaase, stop it! Why is everyone bashing AirQuake?! To some degree it had a more believable flight-model than e.g. "HAWX"... so please, bash some other game! ;) But that aside, I fully agree - a simulation is not (necessarily) an aircraft difficult to handle, but the lack of pre-rendered scenes, repetative moments, routine, etc. A simulation (just as real life) has (almost) endless outcomes, just defined by all the possible steps and moves the participants could perform in such an encounter.... an equatation too complex to grasp, with too many variables to predict the outcome. Salute!

It is all about loosing Goose! Doh! I meant: It is all about loosing Maverick! ....errr.... Topper Harley I meant ... .... Oh dang, whatever, they are both cute ;)
-
How could anyone forget that one?! ;) Man, compared to A-10 Cuba!, the A-10 in LOMAC felt arcadish (still looking forward to the A-10C!! ;) ) ... don't know what it was, but it just played "fluent" and believable.... and more than once I struggled to get the bird home in one piece :joystick:, great and complex (back then) cockpit, etc.pp. *sigh*

You are so right :) I never understood how the "from 25fps up, it appears to be a fluid/continuous movement" made it to a "everything from 25fps up makes no difference". Everyone moving in a virtual world will notice the difference between 25fps and 60 fps. It is just so much easier to track movement in a 60Hz-setup compared to the 25/30fps....

Maybe some Mods/Addons will come out, to remove the shiny glamour and reveal it's true potential as a new WW2-hardcore-reference for the year 2010? :music_whistling:

AI thinks: Come on, you must be kidding me - now he flies into my line of fire .... stupid humans! ;)
