So I won't be able to do a running takeoff with a 3000kg sling load? :P I know it's not good for the sling load to be dragged along the ground, but hey, it's not for me, it's for someone else.

The Minigun flex sights aren't the first thing to break into a million smithereens when the Huey is hit by anything.
-
Wasn't it semi announced that an Mi-24 was due to be developed a bit back? Did they mention who would?
-
So, what's your favorite thing 'bout the .8 beta? Personally, I'd say the flex gun sight. Either BST have done something about localisation of hits, or made the flex sights less prone to breaking down completely the moment someone flicks off the safety of their rifle. I just took an astonishing 147 5.45mm hits before I came to the message reading "Flex sight no signal to guns" in the AAR. Seems we might finally have some proper use of the flex sights beyond the first salvos, nice work Belsimtek :D

While I've heard that some have experienced trouble with the door gunner arcs, I've found that the AI door gunners are extremely reluctant to fire when you're carrying a sling load. Overflew an enemy squad, nothing. Went down in circles close, nothing. Dropped the sling load, and flew as before. Guns galore.
-
TIR box ticked in, and neither door guns nor flex gun sight moves along with the TIR.
-
In 1.2.7 the IR suppressor option includes the armour, and it seems that it is still so.
-
Make sure the IR thingy box is unticked for that.

Thing is that now we have to hover over a much smaller area, whilst looking at the cargo cam, and monitor visual cues on the instrument panel as well as the outside (which is partly obscured by the cargo cam) to hover correctly. I.e. a bit of a sensory overload.
-
If you don't yet know how to hover, trim isn't some magical answer to it. When you learn to hover, you can do it with or without trim.

That air to air kill was against an un armoured, unarmed scout helicopter on a MEDEVAC mission, not exactly impressive. If using a plane costs your own side more KIAs than the enemy, it's probably not used properly. The Sky Raider caused more hostile casualties than friendly ones ;)
-
Well, as it says in the article, it's a COIN aircraft, something the Argentinian military didn't seem to grasp. Using them probably cost more Argentinian lives for the pilots shot down than British servicemen killed by them.

So, before judging the American documentary incredibly biased, did you watch it? I watched it, and it didn't show 3 Sabres downing 50 MiGs. It showed 3 Sabres downing 2 MiGs in one dogfight, and 3 other Sabres downing 3 MiGs in another dogfight. So tell me again how that Dogfights episode was biased?

Definitely the SAS messing around. I don't know why, even when I keep the collective steady and quite a bit below max it just starts effing up the pitch to the extent that it just becomes unplayable.
-
Nope, nothing like that. It's very specific, pretty much every time that I get into mountains and hills there'll be wild pitch adjustments from the SAS, and I'm not even touching the stick or throttle. Can pushing the speed limitations and using a high collective cause it? I've usually gathered quite some speed when I reach said terrain, and to avoid fly right into a mountain I tend to push my collective up a bit.
-
So, a bit of a resurrection of this thread: What's up with the crazy pitching that occurs? I find that especially when flying over uneven terrain, the SAS system will go crazy and go from out right suicidal downwards pitches to equally suicidal upward pitches. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a bug, or does it indicate I'm doing something wrong?

Costs again I guess. Way cheaper to develop a superb missile to blow them out of the air, than to build a fancy weapon that embarrasses them :P
-
^^ It'll probably always be safer and cheaper to bribe a pilot into defecting than to develop a non lethal weapon that will safely take control of the plane.
-
Not to mention the fact that the pilot could just go ahead and choke the engines by turning of the fuel, something that's not controlled by a computer for obvious reasons.
-
10,000 G's. Way to not take fictitious weapons over the top...

He can, but he won't because he's over enemy territory. He'd just never try that unless his ejection seat won't fire, because A, he'd easily be shot down since he can't take evasive maneuvers and might not be able to use countermeasures, B, it's way more dangerous to try crash landing on unknown terrain than it is to punch out, and C, he won't risk the enemy capturing it if he does crash land it.
-
I suppose it's a risk to take in answering this seriously due to the date, but what the heck: Won't work because: A, Sending a projectile, even without a warhead, on a crash course at speeds exceeding Mach 2 against a plane travelling at very high speeds, and you don't need the HE to make it very dangerous. B, Even if you in some way can make the missile knock out the hostile plane without destroying it, you'll still have the pilot in the cockpit, and even without suspecting that someone is using super high tech to capture his plane, he'll just never try to execute a smooth crash landing high up in the air over enemy held/contested territory. He'll just punch out, and the plane will fall out of the sky and attempt to attack the ground, using itself as a projectile because of gravity.

Please tell me that's an April's fool joke. A, A tonne of classified systems and capabilities. B, You have any idea about the extremely skilled crew coordination required to actually operate the Apache? And DCS doesn't even have multiple player cockpits yet. C, Did you miss the post where someone doing games for a living explained how utterly moronic it is to use a forum poll as a consumer survey?
-
Well, if you're sitting in a FOB, or just any other military base, regardless of what sort of conflict it is, there's no big point in it being mobile, as the base you're defending hardly is. Also, keep in mind that the TOW is currently used on a number of vehicles. The Bradley, AH-1 versions, British Lynx helicopters, etc.

What maturin said. And just because Raytheon are developing it, doesn't mean it'll actually be replacing the wire guided ones.
