Beta to be released during the spring. May be later, owing to "it's DCS, let's expect it so we're not disappointed :P", but as others have said before, Belsimtek is not only the first, and so far only 3rd party dev to actually release a module, they also have a good track record of getting things out in time, so even if delayed, I would be surprised if it's much.

I completely fail to see any sort of simulation aspect in such a scenario, as it just would not ever, ever, ever, ever happen no matter what IRL.
-
Slightly deficient colour vision, some annoying shades of green and red. Stupid colours to use, can't they go with like bright yellow and pink instead, almost no one with bad colour vision can't tell those apart :P Could quite possibly be something else up ahead as well, but since I couldn't get into the Swedish military on account of my eyesight, I wouldn't know. Got a very less than subtle hint to try again after eye surgery (something along the lines of "you could come back if your vision has improved", and that was said by someone who knew my eyesight was so bad I can't even make out facial features across a room without glasses/lenses), but considering the lousy chances of getting in even with good eyesight, no way I'd spend that money on an operation that will do nothing to stop my eyesight from degrading over the years and thus leave me with both glasses/lenses and an expensive operation.

Well, it should be simple enough to make once the MP cockpit is finished. Just have to guys turn their keys simultaneously, and away goes the ICBM. Then sit around and wait for one to hit yourself. There's your WW3 sim for you :P
-
So, uhm, how are things coming along?
-
Flying I presume. Apart from fighting for their lives in India and Burma from day one to the end, they also had a naval presence. It was thanks to them that the US Navy switched from wooden flight deck carriers to metal ones IIRC. When American carriers were hit by bombs, or kamikazes, at best you'd end up with a carrier going back to Pearl Harbour for a long time, with hundreds of dead as a result, whereas the metal decks of RN carriers would literally speaking see kamikazes ricochet right of, with minimal casualties and a flight deck that could often be used after quick in theater repairs if needed.

A loose formation, more commonly known as "OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD I DONT WANT TO DIE I DONT WANT TO DIE!!!" :P
-
You're right, I'm dreadfully sorry for pointing out something that literally speaking every human being with an internet connected computer/smartphone/tablet could have seen  Personally I don't care if that and those folders were seen intentionally or not, I like it because A, it indicates that there's more going on and B, that LS are smart enough not to announce a new module the moment they've finished a skin for it, unlike certain developers.

Anyone else notice that Japanese WW2 bird among the modules in the DCS start menu?
-
Looks like some in game streaming of the Mig-21 ATM.
-
Afghanistan perhaps?

I never thought I'd say this, but I might've gotten hooked on Russian helicopters, at least more than before. Actually realized that, and that I'm looking forward to seeing a Hind module a lot more now that you mentioned it. Maybe it's just that there's only two helicopters in DCS (KA-50 doesn't count, just a flying weapons station :P), but I'm at least no longer only touching Russian helicopters with a 6 feet stick.
-
Been mentioned before, please do something about the PC's weapons sight. Isn't it possible to flip it up IRL? It can be quite distracting to have that large thing obstructing your view.

@BST: When can we expect the Mi-8 manual to be available?
Scrim replied to Flagrum's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
"The appearance of smoke, flame, or the smell of gas" How you gonna implement that one? Actually, if it is to simulate the aftermath of the crew mechanic's beer and chili the night before, please leave it out :D -
Well, just to revisit this topic: Pretty much at once after going after the advice things shaped up a lot, and by now I'm flying the Mi-8 even better than the Huey, despite a lot more time in the latter (OK, might be because it doesn't have an autopilot). Especially big thanks to Paradox, Ragnar and Bushmanni, could not have gotten my head around this quicker if it weren't for your advice!
-
Don't worry, it's still great, considering that the only other pictures are weeks, if not months old. This is looking really promising, way to go guys!
-
Etherain: Yeah, you definitely were. And I'm not going to bother with someone who either doesn't read my post, or deliberately takes what I say out of context for whatever reason. Riptide: Well, due to the Soviet military assistance, the peace time years, as well as the frustration of Iran and Israel popping by unannounced and bombing their nuclear projects, the Iraqis had rebuilt their AA net in time for the Gulf War. Was it the greatest in the world? Hardly. It had the obvious downsides, like less advanced WP technology, as well as a flawed WP style organisation, but it was not much worse than that of some WP countries.
-
^ That. If you're gonna be a smartass, go all out and call it something like the 1452d Gulf War, because let's face it, there's been plenty of wars in the region before the Iran-Iraq war or the Gulf War. You knew what I was talking about. The reason I brought up the Gulf War is because, A, it's an interesting example because it's the first time that so many dimensions of ELINT, air, and generally combined warfare came together, and B, you'd be hard pressed to find any other example of ELINT having such a huge impact in any other war.
-
No, that was the Iran-Iraq war. Don't really matter if you've misunderstood the Gulf War name, or feel like being smart by pointing out that there'd already been at least one war in the region before the Gulf War.
-
I was talking about the Gulf War, i.e. the first Gulf War, not OIF.
-
Eh?
-
Yep, people probably learned from the Gulf War. From rather early on, the Coalition would frequently scramble very large, real deal looking strike packages, complete with U-2 spy planes and tankers, and everything in between, and take it pretty much right to the border before turning back. Aside from keeping the Iraqis in the dark and surprise them the day they didn't turn back, it also allowed them to pick up a tonne of ELINT regarding the Iraqi AA net, which went from being damn near state of the art, WP with French improvements, to being nothing short of firing AAA blindly up into the sky when bombs started going of, and sending SAMs blindly with a very brief radar guidance when it was estimated that the missile was close to where Coalition aircraft could be, to avoid getting locked on by a Wild Weasel and ending up on the receiving end of a HARM missile.
-
Do carrier captains shit their pants everytime an aircraft is on final?

I'm assuming the meteorologists aboard can give warning in time so flight operations can be suspended well before something like that happens. -
What? ED has made, and are still the publishers of more than 4/5 of the modules that are available. The only 3rd party dev that has actually released anything is BST, two helicopters. LNS are making the Mig-21, so what does EDGE have to do with that? Yes, there's a P-51D. Did you read the product label when you started playing DCS? http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1480510&postcount=1 People need to stop throwing a fit about airframes from different eras already. If people don't actually bother to read what DCS is before they start playing it, tough.

Nothing screams air-power as much as a BUFF :D
