  1. Just checked, there was an autumn sale in late september 2013. So the next sale should happen in four weeks or so. I am waiting for it too. :music_whistling: Or maybe they will do the sale with the release of the Leatherneck MiG-21 in October.
  2. There is a quickstart guide and a full flight manual for the UH-1h in the DCS\mods\aircrafts\Uh-1H\Doc folder. It is pretty extensive! Would love a manual like that for the Mi8 as well!
  3. I'm not sure what a VVI is. But in normal flight, the SAS never switches off for me. Maybe only when I am doing violent maneuvers like trying to get out of a Vortex ring, or trying to prevent from flying in a very nearby obstacle like a building or a mountain. I use 25% curve for "roll" and "Pitch". And a bit of curve for the rudder. Not the collective. Maybe the Warthog is not really suited for helicopters since it is a very heavy stick that requires a lot of force to move around and might have a very pronounced "Clunk" if you return it to center. But I guess it also depends of what you are used to. A small hint to make take-off and landing more smooth, engage the heading channel of the autopilt/SAS. It will try to maintain the heading the nose is currently pointed to. Unless you press the pedals. After releasing the pedals, it will hold the new heading. On take-off, increase collective VERY gently, otherwise the heading channel will spin out off control.
  4. If your landings are too rough, or you pull too much G's, the Stability system switches off. Most of the time it is the result of the pilot making his maneuvers too violent. So that means you are already in trouble. I use key-bindings to engage the system again. Usually it can withstand quite a bit of "punishment". But it can never hurt to be careful. Especially with Helicopters! Happy flying! :pilotfly:
  5. I had the same thing happening. After dropping the troops, the flightleader rocketed full (cyclic) towards the homeplate. Over the mountains I lost him halfway because he was too far away and the mission "failed". Next try, We were waiting for Springfield 3 and 4 to arrive at the last waypoint, because they were waaaaaaaaay behind. Following the flightleader as faithful as I could, I suddenly observed him "jumping" up very sharply and on a collision course with myself. This triggered a sudden yank on my own collective and it ended in "seperation"... Boy... And when viewing the debriefing screen, it appeared a Mi-24 crashed into Springfield 4 at some point. Wich is very peculiar because with the F10 view, I clearly saw both Springfield 3 and 4 coming in. (and no Mi-24's) This mission is defenitly flawed. The idea is very good, but flying in formation with the horrendous AI is impossible in mountain terrain.
  6. My joystick got all the axis automatically assigned in completely the wrong categories. It was really messed up, toebrakes where collective throttle was pitch etc. So I just erased all the axis in DCS and assigned all of them myself. It'll take you about 5 min.
  7. I won't update until they fix it...
  8. You should consider selling this throttle disassembled. This will save you time and the 'consumer' a few bucks. Maybe even omit the nuts and bolts since a wide variety of those are available in any DIY store. But a good assembly manual should be included. But definitely a very good quality of craftsmanship. It looks awesome!
  9. This actually can be true. I observed that the Cyclic is not moving in the Mi-8 while I stir my joystick around. Could be an issue of hydraulics not functioning when the engines are off. Or maybe just a small bug.
  10. Got it here. This should be unwrapped in the DCS world\Mods\aircrafts\Mi-8MTV2\missions\en\Campaings map. It is a fix that was suggested by someone else on a different part of this forum. Not my own idea. Please back up the original mission first!! Happy flying! :pilotfly: en_SpringMi8-08.rar
  11. The campaign is awesome, I hope you can finish it!
  12. Yup, but a quick session with the mission builder took care of that bug. I would be nice if Belsimtek changed that mission themself. Awesome screenie btw!
  13. I love a good campaign. The Mi-8 campaign is very good. Not too long and a lot of variety in missions. It also gradually builds up the difficulty factor in the successive missions. Yesterday, I finished it. The last mission is the best of the lot I think. Thank you Belsimtek for the awesome campaign and Thank you Eagle Dynamics for creating the awesome DCS world! :smartass::pilotfly:
  14. I think the engines need to have at least 88%RPM for the generators to be effective. A sudden request for power lowers the engines RPM below that figure and the autopilot (among other systems probably) cuts out. It does not engage automatically after the RPM goes above 88% again.
  15. Hit the Autopilot heading channel (the green light on the left of the AP panel, or the R Ctrl+a shortcut) and advance collective SLOWLY. The heading autopilot wants to maintain its current heading. It is disengaged automatically once you use the rudder yourself. If you have choosen your (new) heading, it automatically engages again after releasing the rudder pedals. It can not handle too much violence and G forces in maneuvers. In the case, disengage, reset trim and engage again after a few minutes. And a MUST SEE video for all Mi-8 users here:
  16. Yup, that S-8FP2 missile did the job just fine. Thanks! Many times before, I was shooting AT rockets at infantry. They shot back at me with enough AK fire to cripple the Mi-8. I guess those guys where laughing at me a lot once they realized the rockets wouldn't really damage them at all! But not this time!
  17. The X45 and X52 should be pretty much the same in feel. Did you buy a new X52?
  18. Hello, I was curious about the different type of S-8 rocket warheads that you can load on the Mi8. In the mission builder, you can choose four different S-8 rockets. These are the options: S-8KOM S-8FP2 S-8OM S-8TSM Both through http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-8_rocket and test misisons I've been able to verify that th S-8OM produces an orange cloud of smoke when it hits the ground. The S-8TSM is a bright flare that will explode in mid-air after it has traveled a certain distance. It will slowly descend to the ground while burning extremely bright. Both are nice, but not really usable if you want to kill something. THe S-8KOM and S-8FP2 will go BOOM if they hit the ground. But I'd like to know what is the difference between the two rockets? Wikipedia says that S-8KOM has a HEAT warhead. So it is anti-tank and not really useful against infantry or soft skin targets. But what does the S-8FP2 do? I know it goes "Boom" but I'm looking for something to efficiently kill infantry because I am rather stuck in a campaign mission. And is the FP2 rocket a better choice then the KOM rocket or not?
  19. This should be an electrical power generator and it will draw energy away from the engines. (and you need that for flying around) In theory.
  20. LOL, quite a nice "cartoon" option. :pilotfly:
  21. I've found that if you turn on too much electrical systems, like all the anti-ice and dust protection stuff, it draws too much power from the engines. So I like to have them switched off unless I really do need it AND when I am in full flight. It can also mess up your landings. In this particular mission, you can also switch off all of the circuit breakers on the pilot's side. They control weapons and you don't really need that in this mission. On the autopilot, violent maneuvers and High-G seems to switch it off. Like a bouncy landing at night. When you switch it on, you sometimes see some of the dials on the autopilot spinning. I reset the trim and wait for the dials to settle down before taking off. Of course, sometimes this doesn't work all of the time. But I hope I am helpful.
  22. I drop flares with the "Insert" key. But first you need to press the "D" once. It powers the unit responsible for dropping the flares.
  23. Also, please read the quickstart guide in the DCS world\mods\aircraft\Mi-8MTV2\Doc. Possibly, have this PDF printed or on an IPad or something next to you. I know it is a lot of clicking, but in the Quickstart guide, there is a lot of good advice.
  24. I can and I will. These gunsight settings are a combination of some other hints found online and out of my own experience. Sorry for the late reply, I don't check this forum daily. The trajectory of the guns in DCS seems to be pretty straight with little or no 'scatter' or ballistic drop. I read somewhere that the red mark on the gunsight is an indication for the point exactly straight in front of the helicopter. I tried this setting and it is spot on. This only works for the 23mm and the 12.7mm/7.62mm gunpods. Not the 30mm grenade launcher wich throws its grenades in a ballistic trajectory wich is not unlike a Howitzer and impossible to aim. It is quite a useless load-out in this sim. The rockets are a bit diffrent. They seem to shoot out straight of the pods but the motor only burns for a short period When the rocket has spend its fuel after a few seconds, you can see a very noticeable 'drop' in its flight trajectory. With some experimentation, I determined that the best setting for the rockets is to set the gunsight on "7,75". Provided you fire the rockets from a relative short distance, flying over the target, pointing the nose down. (I'm sorry for the typing error in the picture. It should read 7,75, not 7) Note, it is set on the last big mark before the "8" mark. This setting makes my rockets hit most of the times. Of course, the greater distance between the target and the firing of the rockets, the more scatter and ballistic 'drop'. I like the 23mm guns the best. Heavy shells will destroy medium armored targets and it is very precise. But letting loose a stream of rockets like some aerial Katyusha rocket launcher is way more cool! :pilotfly:
  25. Sometimes, I can't either. Maybe it is because they aren't loaded? Try rearming before you actually take-off and make sure you have flares.
