  1. Why not the middle-east for fighting the Iran-Iraq war? It is were the F-14 was used extensively.
  2. Seems a stall to me as well. The F-86 has a bit strange flight model. But this is definitely not a bug. You entered a high-speed stall. This is were the airstream seperates from the upper surface of the wings. Normally, the air will flow over the wings and 'sticks' to it. Not so in a stall. I'm pretty sure there is some wonderfull youtube video about it. It happens when you jerk the stick too hard. Your speed is pretty good, but 'pull' quite a lot of G's and causes your AoA to rise above the max of the sabre. It happens a lot more on propeller aircraft and is quite a common cause of crashes back in the 'ole' Il-2 days, because prop planes are a lot more susceptible to it. There is two options for you: 1.Fly with more gentle stick inputs 2.Add some more Curvature to the stick axis.
  3. I just got the standard curve with about 20 to 25% curvature set to it. It might be in some manual that this is the best solution for helicopters. But I use the Logitech G940, wich is totally different. I noticed that in the beginning near the center, you've got a big 'jump' to 13. I wouldn't do that, because I think it will make your collective very jumpy right near the beginning. Or has it a different effect? Price of stick doesn't really matter at first. Saitek usually has good quality sticks. But cheap joysticks tend to wear out very fast. But it is a great and inexpensive way to see if this is a good hobby for you.
  4. We are all eagerly awaiting the layered template. Leatherneck has it and they stated several times that they will release it when EDGE comes out. After that... Whuuhuuu!!! :cheer3nc::punk: Waiting waiting...:pilotfly:
  5. Not really helping in the discussion at all, but a very cool vid of some "offroad operations" on a russian aircraft. ;)
  6. Well, I was on a very long (12+ hours) and boring and sleepless flight so I did have plenty of time to finish many movies. It really is not a bad movie at all. Until the "crossroads" it is a very believable and entertaining movie. And I know a little bit behind-the-scenes stuff that got me excited about it. They used as much real (restored) vehicles and equipment as possible and minimized the CGI stuff.
  7. Well, the thing is that the MiG-21 has been available to us for how long now? Half a year? Allready quite a good number of Tutorial video's exist for it from almost the beginning. And that is even seperate from the excellent training missions. And If you decide to make some NEW tutorial vids, they better be good because in half a year, the MiG-21 is one of the most popular 3rd party module and it has got a big community. And many people know this module down to the most tiny detail. Tutorial vids are typically meant for new players and although the MiG-21 probably would attract new players at a slow and steady rate, it won't be having a very large new group of people like it had on the release day. That being said, The original posters of this message and the vids, n8d0g, doesn't deserve to get beaten down like this. But he needs to realize although his methods might work for him, his MiG-21 tutorials are sloppy (confusing the pneumatic gear/brake system with hydraulic for instance) and won't go well with a serious sim crowd.
  8. The F-86K would've better functionality! (20mm guns and two sidewinders)
  9. I had my doubts on the F-86 FM, now I've got proof as well! :music_whistling: Great video tough, really quite amazing!!:pilotfly:
  10. I can't really see the cockpit thinghy. But the partly Japanese flag surely points to the movie "Final countdown?" :D
  11. AWESOME!!!! :pilotfly:
  12. There are as many approaches to... well... approach and landing as there are people flying it. The manual says to start approach from 14km at 1km altitude away. (Use of prmg is recommended if available) I use 20km from 2km altitude to be sure. IAS should be 500km/h at those parameters, extend landing gear. Follow the glide path and at 600m of altitude, extend the first notch of flaps. Let the airspeed bleed off to about 380 km/h and deploy the landing flaps, you should be around 300m of altitude. (about 4km to runway) Vertical speed should be around 5 to 6 m/s. When you pass the inner marker, you are 1 km from the runway and should be about 80m altitude. Speed should decrease slowly and when you are at the treshold, speed should be 320-340km/h and altitude 80m. Flaring before touchdown is pretty obvious. Hit the runway with about 1m/s of Vertical speed. During approach, N1 RPM should be between 80 and 90%. Use of speedbrakes should not be necessary. Use trim so you don't have to 'pull' the stick so hard. If going around, using the level-autopilot resets the trim (can be seen by the green 'neutral trim' light) A quickread of pages 85 and 86 of the manual. :) All speeds are IAS and altitudes are in meters above groundlevel. Approach speeds should be around or just below 400km/h. If it drops below 350, your AoA will be too high for you to see the runway and the controllability of the MiG isn't great either. Only do this the last 1 or 2 km. The manual suggests keeping the treshold of the runway just above the scale of the range-meter. I recommend turning on the fixnet grid as well, just to have some extra reference to keep the airplane level. The MiG-21 doesn't like to touchdown while it isn't level. The manual has pictures too! :)
  13. I saw it on my flight from Peru. It was a good movie, until they came to the crossroads. From there on, it was pretty much a RAMBO, america wins the war alone type of movie. I clearly saw some Panzerfausts on the SS soldiers in the beginning and they didn't use them until very very late. Also, what's the point in charging a tank from head-on? I mean, they were SS soldiers, supposedly the most elite of all. If I was in command I would've ordered my company to stay in cover and give covering fire while a few elite soldiers would sneak up on it from behind to pop a few Panzerfausts in its back. And let them climb up on the tank and finish the job with grenades or shooting pistols rounds through the holes. Waayyyy more effective then keep charging them for hours from the front...
  14. There has been a small discussion going on on the DCS facebook group page. Some have suggested that Eagle Dynamics is working on the F-18C and they don't want the competition from Coretex with the F-18E. But I think that is BS. The Bug and the superbug may look alike, but they are completly different aircraft. Like the MiG-29 and the Su-27. It also has been suggested that some of the 'advisors' are F-18E pilots themselves and they are not available now because they got send on a cruise or a mission or something. And maybe for an accurate F-18E, you need to implement a lot of details that are simply classified. Would've been nice tough to see a realistic ultra-modern western fighter.
  15. There is a campaign for the mi-8. It is rather good.
  16. It was an awesome trailer! But they could've done something more artistic with the ED credits at the end...
  17. The start-up process is not really all that bad. Just a bit sloppy. Taking off at 400km/h leaves you with a real small room for error at the tire-bursting speed of 450 km/h. But don't you have to retract flaps first before placing it into neutral? And you didn't retract taxi-lights. (as seen in the the Ghrom tutorial) THis has no known effect in game, but in real life, they will probably rip off and damage your airframe.
  18. That was quite a hard landing. I expect they needed to do a "bumpy landing" inspection after that. More work for the mechanics, they probably won't love the pilots for landing like this and mistreating 'their' aircraft. ;) I know more soviet aircraft use to do landings like this. It greatly shortens the needed runway length at landings.
  19. Engine fatigue is modelled. It resets if you restart the mission. Can this be applicable in your case?
  20. I think the altimeter is set on "0" meters/feet at the mission start. I don't know how I know, but you have to put it on 1200m before you take off first. Yeah, it is a small bug...
  21. I'm working on a full english cockpit. I digged a bit into the whole cockpit texture thing and the problem seems to be a small bug in the overlay of the english textures. Most of the english is allready present, but for some reason, it cannot be displayed. Right now, I have the (day) cockpit in english, but the nightlightning is still in Russian.
  22. I got a similar configuration (but with less RAm) and I have the exact same issue. DCS Graphic settings don't seem to have any effect. I found this mission really hard. You have to slug it out against MiG-23 and even 29's sometimes! I don't think the MiG -21 is up to the task. It is even harder with the low Fps in this mission. The only way i was able to pass is to open it up with the misdionbuilder and add a flight of F-14's with AIM-54's and a few more SAM sites. And by using pause and F5 a lot. I don't think 'they' (ED and leatherneck) will be spending much time on improving this engine anymore. Let's hope EDGE can bring some improvement for us.
  23. I think they (leatherneck) might have given a few comments about that in the past. I don't know if it is ever going to be implemented. I agree with XXJohnXX about the subject but I think it would be rather easy to code. We have the option of adding AWACS support to the missions in DCS. It is not the same, but better then nothing. We'll see what will happen in the future!!
  24. Yeah. DCS has the bad habit of assigning all the HOTAS controls for you. It never works at the first go. You might want to check the button assignments as well. I always delete everything and reprogramming all the buttons and axis myself. Anyways, I have the G940 as well. In the manual, the guys from Leatherneck advised to add about 20 to 25% curvature on the pitch, roll and rudder axis and about 1 to 3 deadzone. This is to simulate the responses of the MiG-21 in the best way. Congratulations on adding the most detailed and wonderful for DCS to date. ;)
  25. It seems to be they took a few seconds of this video and inserted it in the MiG-21 video. Weird. In the picture above, the Landing Gear lever is in the down position. Now surely all of the compressed air will leak away!
