  1. I'm not actually sure about this, since you can download any module on the DCS store easily - for instance, the A-10C can be downloaded directly from its product page: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/modules/dcs_a10c_warthog/ The problem would indeed be activation. The idea of being able to spectate a player in the cockpit is pretty interesting, though, and I also had some difficulties guiding a friend during a startup sequence.
  2. Yup, I meant Hall Effect Sensor^^ Potentiometers are only good for a while, and they lack the resolution most Hall Effect sensors can offer. As I love simply flying around in the Huey, I should probably get a joystick that offers high precision around the center, and this is going to be even more difficult with the Gazelle, from what I understand.
  3. I might have to buy a new joystick for this one... current one is dying and losing precision around the center, just where you need it for the Gazelle. Time to go for an HES joystick! By the way, will we be able to fly a civilian version, like we can with the Huey? I think just flying around will be a lot of fun, and I don't need hardpoints and/or exhaust covers for that, so I'm curious about that particular point. Awesome job to the team, can't wait to try it out!
  4. Looking at your replay track, I can say the behavior of the heli is pretty normal. You are making very little use of pedals, and didn't seem to trim at all. In the Huey, when you add torque by pulling the collective, it will want to yaw right, so you need to counter that with some left pedal. While in flight, you will most often need to add some forward cyclic as well. Trim often to make your life easier and relax your hand. In this particular mission, you had a heavily loaded heli as well, which probably doesn't help if you're still struggling with basic control; you should have a look at the training missions and read a bit about helicopter aerodynamics, this will help you understand what you need to do to have better control.
  5. You are correct about the "hinge" - while the weight of the plane tries to bring it down (let's ignore lift for a minute here), the reaction of the landing gear stops it, but as it is off the CoM, will create a moment that will tend to give the plane a nose up attitude. At that point, the increased AoA will be more likely to lift the plane back up in the air. I'm not sure the damper gives you any appreciable amount of time to react: a somewhat hard landing on a tricycle plane can result in a bounce, which feels almost instantaneous. The plane, however, still settles down, because it's AoA is almost constant (it would even tend to decrease during the bounce). Rather than giving you more time to react, the damper does just that: reduce the bouncing by preventing the spring from pushing you up too much. A good way to make sure the plane can or cannot bounce purely from the high descent rate would be to literally drop it from a few feet with no horizontal speed, which is unfortunately impossible in DCS. You would still probably see the plane bounce from higher drops, until the gear can't withstand the reaction and breaks.
  6. Lots of excellent screenshots in here, good job everyone!
  7. I agree this would be extremely beneficial to immersion, and this is true for any first person (even third person) game. How many times did I play with friends online, only to hear their Huey starting up from only my left ear at full volume, while my right ear could not hear anything? Not only is this unrealistic, it also brings great discomfort, and forces one to either look directly at or away from the sound source to balance what each ear hears. The same is true for in-cockpit sounds, most notably the engine: looking to either side makes one ear lose sound. Now of course, this might be difficult to implement, but it would be a very welcome addition.
  8. Hello, just a little something I noticed while flying in the open beta: the switch still defaults to the BRIGHT position, however the lights are actually dim, and switching to DIM makes them brighter. Edit: Well, it looks like I'm a bit late for that report: this is fixed in the latest beta build.
  9. I just checked in 1.2.16 (I was excited to try flying through it) - oh how disappointed am I to find that it is "closed" already :( For those who want to have a look: 42°37"N 44°10"E. Edit: AI units can indeed go through (literally) the mountain through the tunnel in 1.2.16.
  10. I'm in as well, can't miss such an opportunity :p Thank you and VEAO for you generosity, this always makes a few of us really happy!
  11. This was actually added to the changelog as well, and this is very interesting, as it allows us to make a single group with several clients in it, instead of having to copy and paste aircraft. This will also make changes to the flight plan of a group much easier, and I also appreciate being able to fly as something other than a flight lead (although I do hope AI improvements mean their trajectory is somewhat more predictable :p ).
  12. Have you tried running a repair? It shouldn't be necessary if you just installed the game, but you never know. It is a bit strange that it happens on both versions, though.
  13. Congrats once again, Mick, you deserve that first place after all the effort you put in! And thanks again to Shahdoh and everyone else for making the series happen, it was great fun flying with everyone!

  15. KashiKyrios - Dogfight Red - 10:20.54 Clearly not my best, but oh well (also, one of the towers was destroyed, gate 3). Not too big a deal though, qualifying time for long races isn't as important as it is for short races.

  18. Hi, There is only one thing you need to know before buying modules: FC3 aircraft systems are simplified (in the same way they are in the Su-25T), while single modules have fully clickable cockpits and detailed systems. A lot of fun can be had with FC3 planes, but this is also true for single modules (which may take longer to master, however). Just take advantage of the sale to buy what you're interested in!
  19. I have experienced pitot icing in the A-10C as well, which made the HUD read 50 knots. I had to turn pitot heating on to get a correct reading a few seconds/minutes later. Not sure about other aircraft, though.
  20. There is a game mode that simplifies at least the flight and damage model, but I don't know the details as I haven't used it at all (except to see what it looks like). If you just want to skip the start-up procedure, you can set your aircraft as "Takeoff from parking hot" or "Takeoff from runway" in the mission editor, and you will be ready to go. To use game mode, I think you have to look through the options tabs, should be somewhere in there.

  22. I truly have no words to describe how amazing those prizes are! This is sure to make the competition even fiercer, for the enjoyment of everyone. A very sincere thank you to Shahdoh, VEAO Simulations and LockOnFiles for organizing such an event and supporting it that far, and best of luck to all the contestants!
  23. I believe something that's lacking in general aviation sims (FSX/X-plane) is a good damage model. They can model system failures, but nothing about damaging your aircraft from a hard landing or any kind of collision. Having a decent damage model is a really good thing about DCS, even though there are some quirks here and there, so any civil module would be fine to me, especially helicopters!
  24. Hi, I would like to register as well. Pilot Name: KashiKyrios Livery: Dogfight Red (P-51D) Country: France
