Well, I have a few dogfights under my belt tonight, AI only. Unfortunately, the AI starts trying to go vertical as soon as you get behind them, so it turns into an easy kill for flying the Dora. The main thing for me was that I found the p-51 much easier to aim once I have aspect on my opponent. I had a much better hit ratio, and actually down the Dora sooner, despite having bigger guns on the Dora. The p-51 seems like you feel the plane much more when you fly it.

It is reassuring also having some hard data showing that the 15 needs some adjustment. And no offence to the devs, the F-86F is a superb module and I would rather they release it in this state (because DCS turns me into a small child on Christmas) and continue working out bugs and modifying it with the public involved. Also, I would rather they focused on the 86 than the 15 anyway. I appreciate your guys input, and seeing some successes makes me want to try all the harder to try different techniques and improve my skill.

I'm with ya Starkey. I read somewhere that the pilots of the "F" felt that it even surpassed the 15's capability in many ways. I also read that the F-86 was much more of a quality build than the Mig. So, I guess we can feel good knowing that while we may not be able to shoot him down, at least our plane is built better. HAH!

I see my thread exploded during my drive home from work. :) Thanks Cornbread, I'll give that a shot (hopefully :music_whistling:). I used to do that against the Dora but the 15's climb rate (at least right now) is hard to cope with. I thought this gap was closed most of the way with the "F" variant's 600flbs more thrust. I have one :smilewink: and have already had some thoughts in this direction :D. Impressive, I did find that I had more "chance" opportunities with more planes in the fight. I also die more because I let myself get baited too much without watching my 6 . Thanks for your input so far guys. I'm gonna fly more tonight and see how it goes.

Really? Wow, Expert difficulty your flying an F-86? That kinda makes me wanna try fighting an F-86, to see if it's my use of the plane that's killing me. Edit: I should also mention that I actually almost never get shot down in a 1v1 battle, it's just that I have to keep fighting till I run, or get too low on fuel, because I just can't seem to get a bead on him.

Preface: I know the AI Mig-15 is still a WIP so don't get me wrong. Wow! I was glad to see that I'm not the only one around here having to rekindle my relationship with my ejection seat from the Mig-15. I've tried 1v1, 2v2, added missiles to the equation, changed fuel quantity, you name it, I have not won a single engagement. The only thing I've been able to do that I would even consider a success is to wait till he's in the climb or at a front aspect of some sort and hit the deck running. I've only had one time that I put any holes in him and one time I had a direct hit with a missile, but as we know, that had basically no affect . He keeps pushing me past the abilities of my aircraft and turning it into an energy fight. I don't consider myself to be a real living Ace, but I can normally hold my own, say P-51 vs Dora or F-15 vs Mig-29/Su-27. I'd like to hear your guys thoughts on this...or maybe I'm just venting. :D

Desperately need help with the Sabre controls.
JMasterFlash replied to Dudester22's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
I found the problems I was having with nose wheel steering was due to a delay in control. I was compensating for some rightward movement and by the time it was coming back left it was too late to keep it from swinging way to the left. I keep my stock axis settings, now I just steer less, but more deliberately and give the nose wheel a chance to catch up to what I want. -
Surely I can't be the only one... Unfortunately, our new opponent (mig-15) seems to be quite a challenge though :( I did a dogfight last night with one, it may be that I'm not as good with energy management with the f-86, but I had my hands full.

One thing I can say about this aircraft, super fun! In my opinion this is by far the most fun to actually fly. I love operating complex systems of the a-10 or shark, with their "computerized office in the air" feel. But when it comes to having an aircraft that just feels like its part of you. This is the plane. I liked the f-86 and respected what it did for my country, but wasn't that excited about it due to the lower complexity of the systems, but wow! Great buy!

Dang, I've got Friday off, how am I going to preoccupy myself?! I'd like to know who else does this, I like getting a new aircraft and just sitting in the seat looking around. No manual, no preflight check. Just trying to figure out how to start it without any outside help. Just using deductive reasoning. Not just flipping switches, but trying to think through what the aircraft needs to fly. -
Also when the f-15 module comes out, I will try to fly it w/o cas system for the fun of it. ;) it's the f-15 here guys! Not the f-117 or f-16. I'm sure it's no 747 to fly without cas but from everything I've heard it's not inherently unstable, it's just not very inherently stable. It helps the pilot not to have to devote all of his time and energy to keep the plane in the air.

I think it's worth mentioning here that the update to the A-10a sas (the only one I remember) was just to change the cockpit graphics to show sas switches in the on position. This will have no effect on the AFM. It's just for the look of the cockpit.

Glad you got this figured out. Welcome to DCS! As you said, you like complexity, this sim will NOT disappoint. I'm sure you've already watched videos of the other modules and seen that the su-25t and ca just scratch the surface. I love complexity, I love flight too, but complexity is why I play (fly) DCS!

In the beta at least, if you are playing a mission that was created pre 1.2.7 they are empty and require loading. If you create a new mission they come loaded.

I'm sorry to do a rollback on the thread, but Ralfidude is not a pilot. He said so in the caption of one of his videos. Linebacker is however a private pilot.

CBU-87 is the best weapon I've found. Just go into the INV menu and re-add the 87 with a low height of function setting and that will bring the grouping tighter with the cluster munitions and has been VERY effective for me. As far as finding them, I would think that IRL that would be the job for JTAC. Where they would call you in to strike an enemy position rather than call out coordinates for individual men.

DCS 1.2.7 Open Beta - Now Available
JMasterFlash replied to Wags's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Glad to hear you're up and running. I'm not sure if instant action is working. I assume that it is. I'll give it a shot on my machine. You'll be glad to have door gunners now. Just having the 2 m60s hitting infantry when you're landing hot is a huge help. Be advised, at this point (for some reason) when you use long burst for them they seem to engage targets at extreme ranges (for me anyway). And remember, you can use the ingame "adjust controls" option to learn/remap controls. I use that constantly. Update: I tried the instant missions, 1 for p-51d and 2 for uh-1h. No problems. It is most likely something that will get resolved when it is release version. Because it is in an alternate directory for beta. -

JMasterFlash replied to Wags's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
@baz, do you have these installations in the default directory? Also are you able to map the controls? Are you relying on the defaults? -
Actually they have just implemented that in 1.2.7. So maby that will change.

When I first saw this I started to roll my eyes. After thinking about it, it would be kinda cool, and add to the "real" feeling when your parked. Also that concept is already in DCS if you have ever noticed your AOA indicator when your parked in your A-10C on a windy day. (Not that I'm telling the developers what to do.) Really!? Seems like I explore this about every 3rd flight ;). The video is really good for anyone who hasn't watched it. It really helps to understand what is happening, so you can know how to respond to prevent that. Have you tried holding your right or left mouse button down when observing this? I have read of at least 2 other people having this issue.

I tell ya one thing. I'll be testing the crap out of the flare system in the UH-1H. I can't tell you how many IR missiles I've gotten shot down by :glare:. -
