  1. Your problem will be linked to the game settings and not SSD disk. Mainly, turn shadows to flat ones and do not use AA combined with Deffered lightning. That will solve many performance issues people have. In what resolution do you play?
  2. Oh no, no cheating, either I do it or die trying. It's just so damn hard. :joystick: I wonder if it is "easier" in VR.
  3. Oh the dread and horror of thinking that I have to AA refuel in each mission. Sweat and blood on Hotas... :helpsmilie: This could probably be the hardest campaign ever.
  4. Secondhand 980ti would do wonders too. I'm using one and play in 3440x1440 60fps.
  5. If you have enough RAM then SSD will not boost the game performance. From my own experience, if you have 16GB of RAM or more then normal HDD will not hinder your game performance. It will only affect loading times. And by performance I do not mean FPS. SSD would help a bit with stuttering in case your PC would have to use swap. Bearing in mind that the the swap file and DCS are both on SSD.
  6. There are better Multiplayer platforms than DCS. But nothing can compare to DCS in regards to aircraft fidelity, simulation and feel. You will find great Multiplayer community in DCS but a lot of times it can be frustrating as DCS is simply not in a good spot when it comes to support of stable and epic encounters. The lack of tools for creating large, stable and dynamic multiplayer environment is what DCS lacks the most. And to be honest with how long it takes to implement new things in DCS, we are still looking at more than few years before some of these aspects will be "resolved". So depending on what you are looking for, if the technical aspect of simulation, realism of the flight model and realistic cockpit instruments are the things you enjoy, then DCS will be enjoyable for you. If you are more into dynamic multiplayer campaign with a lot of human players, then you may be disappointed. I cannot comment on the VR aspect of the game as I did not have the chance to experience that yet.
  7. Is it possible to view "windows" calculator in VR? I suppose no? :D Anyway this could be done by some clever use of Kneeboard. I believe there are even mods for interactive kneeboards if I'm not mistaken.
  8. This also creates "jump scares" when you get killed. Many times I jumped up in my seat when my pilot got killed because it changed the view to an external one and everything became loud. I would rather not die of an hearth attack while playing DCS so please add an option to reduce the sound volume when in external view. Thank you.
  9. I think that this could lead to a lot of confusion. Majority of the buttons in cockpit of FC3 planes would have no function at all as the functions they represent are not simulated. It would not be clear as to what is and what is not clickable.
  10. So much looking forward to this. It's more than a year since I told myself that I will wait for the 2.5 merge to get back to DCS... well it did not last long for me, I've played since then, but the moment 2.5 will happen will be one of the best. No longer will I have to switch clients to play different maps which is the biggest gripe for me at the moment. The new Caucasus looks great.
  11. Hoped for more inside info, but screenshots are good too. :)
  12. Balance is up to mission maker. He can do all sort of limitations, do time appropriate missions and limit specific ammunition, even amount and type of aircraft. It's up to a player then to choose on which server he wants to fly.
  13. I think, and its only my guess, that we will not see any major CPU thread behavior changes until version 3.0. 2.5 will only bring a better GPU utilization in Caucasus, but at the same time increase the fidelity of the map so in the long run players may not even see difference in fps. Although the reveal of F-18C said something about new way of simulation, we have yet to see what that really means.
  14. They can still do it in following way: Low res, no features, but included with F-18C. High res, all features ON, not included you have to buy it.
  15. From what I saw, the 2.1 version is able to utilize GPU more than the 1.5 version, but the 2.1 is also more demanding. Seems like the best will be to wait it out as the only reason I would want to upgrade is DCS which is constantly changing, at least until we will see 2.5. Then I will be able to do some decent tests and see what I need for my needs.
  16. I think the major part are also vibrations. I do not know how much you can feel in a modern jet cockpit but they may help with identifying a lot of "what is happening at the moment". I know there are seat products from Gametrix, but they have still a long way ahead of them to make it truly realistic experience.
  17. Yes, I will definitely wait for Vega reviews. It may reduce the prices or even make me buy one. Waiting for Volta, well that is tempting, but the problem is that the type of card I would be interested in will not be released even remotely soon. If I would buy Volta card it would be again Ti equivalent and that will take at least year from the mainstream Volta release. Don't get me wrong, 980Ti I have now is very much capable of running DCS without problems. I do have some fps drops here and there but nothing really serious that would hamper my game play. Its just the "itch"to buy something new ... :)
  18. Thank you for the answer! Do you know how much fps you got approximately, even in VR? I should get about 50% increase in other games, but I would like to know about DCS mainly as that is what is worrying me the most. :)
  19. If this is true it would be great news. 2.5 is way overdue, the sooner it happens the better as it will reduce the mess in which the current community is. To have one client for all modules will make all the difference for me. Even if the modules like NTTR and Normandy would be marked as alpha, just the simple fact that I do not have to jump between clients to be able to use them will be a huge quality of life improvement.
  20. Anybody here who upgraded from 980ti to 1080ti? I have a serious itch to upgrade but I do wonder if GPU upgrade is enough. My CPU is i7 4790K and I'm gaming in 3440x1440 resolution. All reviews I saw about 1080ti put it well ahead of 980ti. The question I have is: does this apply to DCS too? Will I see similar increase in fps as in other games? I would like to see steady 60 fps at 3440x1440 with 2 AA and high/ultra presets. This is not achievable with 980ti in all situations. I see drops at certain places and situations.
  21. 1070 is a solid upgrade. Of course it depends in which resolution you are gaming, but you will see improvements in a lot of cases. By default you should see about 30-50% upgrade in fps at 1080p.
  22. Good job! The briefings look very well done. The immersion will be high. :)
  23. When we are at it, Dan Hampton has a new book about Wild Weasels, Hunter killers. I did not read it yet though.
  24. You also have to keep in mind that DCS is simulating several time eras of conflicts. Older SAM sites will be easier to defeat simply due to the older technology used in them. Missiles launched by the system differ a lot. In speed, maneuverability, dependency on ground radar... If you like reading books, look for Viper Pilot from Dan Hampton. Its very catchy and you will learn a lot about weaseling too. :)
