  1. Yeah I think the gyro was used in the planes that had it, but I think most aircraft of WWII didn't have a gyro sight. Surely it was extra useful for inexperienced pilots who had trouble calculating lead otherwise. You can use the gyro for targets that are not so extremely evasive. Like against bombers, in a tailchase, or against a fighter in a shallow turn. But if the target knows it is getting shot at, and is doing hard evasive maneuvers, the gyro just can't keep up. Then you have to use the fixed sight :) Personally I don't like the gyro sights too much, and only use them in specific situations.
  2. Forget the gyro sight, it is not reactive enough to hit evasive targets. Use fixed gun sight, shoot down a lot of planes, and you will start feeling the correct lead in different situations (applies to all WWII aircraft). Unless you have godly aim it is good to make the first burst very short, just to test if the lead is correct, and only then shoot a longer burst. Otherwise it's spray'n'pray and out of ammo :) Also, closer is always better for accuracy. You can't be too close when you fire, let the target fill your gunsight! That was Erich Hartmann's approach style to his fights also!
  3. Oh, nice! Here's a demo track.. the lock is dropped somewhere between 20-30 degrees, you will see how it goes ;) M2000RadarBug.trk
  4. Yeah I guess I'm a little harsh today :) But it really kills me when I see a product released that even temporarily fails to reach the old Lock On standard.(yeah the 10+ year old one). And it's called "high fidelity" :) When a radar has no working IFF, no working antenna elevation, and doesn't even maintain lock as supposed to, it really is below the old standard and kills any desire to fly it in a combat situation. It doesn't have to be perfect. I just want the basics to be there. There's a similar trend in mainstream game releases as well. Unbelievable sums of money are put into designing the fanciest of games. But programmers neglect the most basic features that games have had for 10-20 years. Neglected screen resolutions, mouse sensitivity issues, forced mouse acceleration/filtering, pointless frame rate locks, unbindable key commands, input lag, unadjustable basic graphics settings, the list goes on... Sorry, a little off topic, but I had to let it out. But I'm sure the M2000 will be great once the basics are handled properly :):)
  5. Yeah.. my point is it's kinda bad PR to release a module, even in beta, with these three giant bugs. It's only slightly better than releasing a module with standard flight model ala Hawk...
  6. If this is a bug... well, this one and the earlier lack of IFF and radar antenna elevation.. and it's been almost 4 months since release.. I think RAZBAM should fire all of their testing team and hire me instead :D Sorry. :)
  7. Hey guys, just learning the M2000 here, but I can't figure out why the STT lock keeps dropping off when I make a hard turn in any direction.. shouldn't the radar be able to keep up with a target +/- 60 degrees in every direction? Now it seems to drop off at less than 30 degrees off-nose. Thx :)
  8. Not really.. 1) Use autostart sequence(the one I mentioned already): ~1 minute 2) Taxi to a runway. During taxiing use the wheel brake while making turns, otherwise the thing won't turn: 10 minutes max 3) Line up with a runway ~1 minute 4) Full throttle and pull nose up to lift off before end of runway --> airborne! ~1 minute Total time to get airborne: ~15 minutes :) The training missions for different systems and weapons take a similar amount of time of your life.
  9. No new FC3 level aircraft are coming, but the existing ones are being improved! Mig29 and Su33 are going to be blessed with new flight models, happy times! FC3 still retains its status as the king of modern fighter combat because the new high fidelity modules have not and will not replace it for quite some time..
  10. I don't think low experience is a good reason to stay offline... just get out and fly! If the kill ratio leads to frustration... don't be quiet about it, ask for guidance! F-15 is, in a way, a simple aircraft to get kills with because the missile does most of the work. With a little guidance you will learn simple attack techniques that are guaranteed to get you the occasional kill and keep you alive in the process.
  11. I hope stalling the airframe won't be penalized though :D
  12. Well, there's always the autostart (leftwin-home) to get the thing started from ramp. And there are some nice training missions to get you going with the weapons systems! In the end the systems are not overly complex, even if it seems intimidating at first. I admit the Mig-21 is one of the harder machines to be effective with. This is because a) the radar has poor coverage and low-altitude problems so it fares poorly in BVR combat and b) it's not much of a dogfighter either. It works best as an interceptor against targets with known location (with help from AWACS, ground control etc.)
  13. Merge = moment of shortest distance between the two fighters. If one wants to be a real smartass, one could argue the merge can occur earlier if one fighter turns away unexpectedly and manages to increase separation momentarily, thus justifying a head-on shot after that. But then again, who likes smartasses? :) I don't think this will be a problem.. gentleman behavior is encouraged and hopefully everybody understands the reason why this rule is used, and not abuse it.
  14. You guys might want to edit the briefing text and the welcome message to better correspond to the new event and new rules... You can find the welcome message in the triggers labeled "once". Right now it says "Welcome to Top Gun Round 2" ;) Otherwise, good job :)
  15. Aspect matters a lot. Throttle setting matters a lot. Afterburner multiplies your heat signature compared to mil power. Idle is best for low heat signature. Flares matter. Especially when popped in quick bursts of three launches or more. Range matters. Long range shots are easy to spoof (if you see them), but even the best countermeasures may not save you if the missile is 2 seconds from impact. Minimize your heat signature by turning straight into the missile and cutting throttle to idle immediately, then pop flares in bursts, this will give you best survivability! Aircraft body temperature doesn't seem to matter at all.
  16. I laughed  I don't think I'm going to say my opinion on this subject matter here, there's no need :) But we need to know... fuel loads and mission. Same as Top Gun 2?
  17. I can confirm this problem, and also a possibly related problem: In multiplayer dogfight scenarios with airstart, you start getting very low FPS after a few fights (shootdowns/ejects). This occurs only when looking in the direction where the fight occurred, and only with the F-15C, and even if the radar is off. Also this problem appeared roughly at the same time as the TWS-related FPS drop.
  18. Nice match, team balance was surprisingly good. Points to Challengers for making a very nice push mid-game, clearing way for strikers to get some air-to-ground kills! Also it was a nice feeling to fly with a "pro-only" team, if you can say that. Comms and especially tactics is a lot easier when you pretty much know the capabilities of every pilot you're flying with. And thx Ironmike for good adminning and flawless execution of the event :)
  19. Great, thx for info Flank! Old school pilots means good fights, let's hope some of them show up!
  20. Signed up for 1v1, but I don't understand why I gotta pick a plane type in the form. I'll surely alternate plane type between matches, depending on what's needed ;) Also, who are the invitees? And lastly, surely in 2v2 firing before merge is allowed right? Because in 2v2, there is no single merge, but several merges (four merges actually), and thus here the definition of merge is quite subjective. If you want to enforce holdfire before merge in 2v2, you have to have extremely tightly defined parameters that define the merge, otherwise it's a big unfair mess where everyone decides for themselves when the merge has occurred. In contrast, 1v1 merge definition is easy: the moment when the two aircraft are closest from each other (straight line between the two) and start separating again.
  21. I don't know when there's gonna be testing if any. Probably not. But you can download it for yourself from the front page!
  22. To everyone on Red: I recommend you make a familiarization flight, on your own, to study the borders of the operations area. It's quite small, and thus it's easy to accidentally fly out of it.
  23. Sorry, but the Su-27 is brick when fully fueled. It doesn't do sustained turn well at all, you better kill the bad guy before finding yourself on the deck with <600 km/h airspeed cos after that it just doesn't turn. I prefer to burn the fuel down to half before actively seeking merge encounters..
