  1. Hey everyone don't forget to join us for the practice session, today 17.00 GMT, 104th Teamspeak!
  2. Alright people, East side has gathered a rather formidable force as you can see here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2593222&postcount=13 So, West needs to step it up! Anyone wanting to participate in this event, sign up here. Practice on evening of 12th December, match on 19th (Evening time of Europe). I will fill up the team roster as people sign up. Once teams are full, the rest will be on reserve.
  3. 104th_Stuge F-15C Finland 20th only
  4. Keep visual always if you can. If you lose visual, the vertical scan is your best bet. Make sure it's in thermal only mode (the radar mode is off) as this way it locks fastest and most reliably. No need to spam the lock button, as someone said, just keep it pressed throughout the scanning. Program it to an easy button on joystick instead of using the enter key. While vertical scanning, keep rolling your plane actively, as this "swings" your vertical scanning cone all over the place, guaranteeing that anything in your front sector within 60 degrees off nose will get locked up. Don't forget to keep your ears open. You never know if you could hear your bandit passing beside you before seeing him or locking him up.
  5. Yes Flank, the initial plan is to have multiple 4 vs 4 rounds over a course of say 2-3 hours. Possibly many rounds ongoing at the same time. Coalition with most victories will win the day :) We didn't plan on a life limit initially, but now that you mention, that may be a good idea and could be taken into consideration...
  6. Hello everyone! We are pleased to announce a new multiplayer event, which will be called "Ace Combat". The event is going to be a guns only team versus team competition with modern fighters, with teams of four pilots going against each other as part of a bigger coalition vs coalition, "East" versus "West" competition. This roughly translates to the English-speaking community and the Russian-speaking community of DCS. So the setup for the rounds is 4 vs 4, guns only. The organizers are me(104th_Stuge) and AAK224. Currently, modern guns only combat in DCS is mostly limited to either 1 versus 1 dueling or a free-for-all "furball". Also for a long time there has been little competitive stimulus to practice gun combat. With the current boost provided by the fantastic Top Gun Round 2 tournament, we would like to continue reviving and boosting this sacred martial art form, see organized teams battle it out on a regular basis, and provide a stimulus for regular practice. So the main purposes of this event are: -Encourage public interest in practicing the art of dogfighting by providing competitive stimulus -Bring the English-speaking and Russian-speaking communities closer together Anyone can take part, and all modern fighters are allowed (yes Mig-29 as well :)) The event is planned to take place approximately every month or every two months so any team that wants to fly will certainly get a chance. Also if public interest is high, we will try to expand the number of teams accordingly. First date is set at 19th of December. For now we will likely have one team from SF squadron and one from 104th Phoenix, so there is room for one more team, we have planned to have three teams on each side for this first time. Any team that is interested, feel free to drop a line on this thread. Also everyone who is able to participate on 19th from SF and 104th squadrons, please let me know so we can decide final composition of the teams. For the western side, I'm thinking of having a training session on December 12th. Exact times and other details will be announced later. S! EDIT: Here's a list of confirmed participants on the West side. East side already has their roster full so we need more pilots! 104th_Stuge 104th_RIPTIDE 104cdt_Junior 104th_Knight SF_Bushmanni SF_Razer SF_j00NAS Dartuil F99th-Toolbandit Oberst_Zeisig Plaiskool SharpGBR Also, THE BATTLE WILL START ON 19th OF DECEMBER AT 17.00 GMT PRACTICE SESSION WILL BE 12th DECEMBER at 17.00 GMT (meet on 104th teamspeak!) UPDATE: MISSION LINK: https://yadi.sk/d/QOBb3qYomGshB UPDATE: Rules for "Ace Combat" on 19th December The basis of the event - fights on guns 4x4. Battles are conducted to the complete victory of one of the teams or until the end of fuel of one of the teams (in this case the winner is the team whose aircraft stayed in the air longer). The event is divided into four rounds lasting 30 minutes, with a break between rounds of 10 minutes. All fights are carried out until the end, even if the time limit is exceeded. The total planned time of the event is 30 + 10 + 30 + 10 + 30 + 10 + 30 = 150 minutes. After passing this time limit there will be one "final fight" with several teams battling each other all at the same time. The alignment of teams against each other is as follows. In the first round, red teams are arranged in the zones of combat, and blue team can then choose how to deploy their teams against red. In the second this is vice versa, with red teams being allowed to choose their composition tactically against blue's chosen teams. This pattern is then repeated in the 3rd and 4th rounds. Competitions are held with machines such as the Su-27, F-15s, MiG-29A. At the request of coalitions in the mission may be included Su-33, MiG-29S, Su-25, Su-25T and the MiG-21bis. The composition of the teams regarding aircraft types is free to be chosen. Fuel loads: Su-27 4794kg, F-15C 4565kg, 3300kg MiG-29, Su-33 4757kg. Fuel load selected for 5 minutes of flight in afterburner at a speed of Mach 0.5 at sea level, according to the fuel consumption in the documents. Colors: Red: Su-27 and MiG-29 - white-red-blue. Su-33 - the standard blue and gray nose. The F-15 - a standard gray-blue. Blue: Su-27 - blue with a green nose. MiG-29 - the standard green. Su-33 - the standard blue with the white nose. The F-15 - Broken blue-gray-white color "aggressors".
  7. Damn, seriously nice job with the vid SkyCap...
  8. Thank you for the competition, gunnery was fun and surprisingly challenging. I actually had to trim all axes including rudder in the Su-27 to make it shoot a bit more straight, not to suffer so much from off-center recoil of the gun (which wants to push the nose to the right a bit). S!
  9. Oh you can launch during the "blinking".. haha nice, didn't know that! Not very useful in combat unfortunately but still cool :)
  10. I use the override with helmet mode, I don't know about other modes.. But how was this shot on the video achieved? Isn't 60 degrees a hard limit on all sensors?
  11. Wrong :) Use launch override (alt-W) to get full 60 degrees off-bore shots for R-73!
  12. Here's my entry for the gunnery competition(104th_Stuge): https://www.dropbox.com/sh/dbt5izwzgshnh17/AABIYwkarZ1ShjL-fiXZVeyfa?dl=0 I was planning to go for perfect score, but don't feel like spending hours anymore, this will have to do. Anyway, if someone can beat this, they surely deserve the module ;) Note that my name in the tacview file is just "new callsign" because I forgot to change it in game. Also note that my last burst cuts it very close to the distance limit. But if you look carefully you'll see that the last round leaves the cannon at exactly 1004 ft distance from the target :D
  13. Hey! I will choose the Nevada map (which was just released it seems :D) Concerning the 2v2 prize.. I was thinking of giving my prize to Razer also so he can claim a pricier module of his choice. He certainly deserves it... still need to ask him what he wants.
  14. I feel very happy, honored and thankful for this double victory. I couldn't have done it without the help of many many people, so here are special thanks to: My wingman - Razer. What a phenomenal talent. Fantastic combination of skill, aggression, improvisation and effortless communication. Your Kung Fu is strong! The Organizers: Flankerator - organizing with a true passion for air combat. OverG - hours of patient testing of the mission, then refereeing and streaming some of the fights. Fantastic! SkyCap and DutchBaron - very professional refereeing and overall solving of all the problems that we encountered. And being nice guys also. RIPTIDE - refereeing matches on 104th server, and doing his part with maximum dedication! My "fight club" sparring partners: Bushmanni - the man behind SF squadron, gathering and keeping the Finnish players together, while being active in the community, also tirelessly writing instruction manuals for the Finnish community, arranging training sessions, and always providing analytical viewpoints and coherence to training. Junior - 104th's most promising new talent. Keep training and you can win the next Top Gun ;) Ocelot - Great talent. What could be if he would only forget about BMS... :D Sweeper - A hardcore powerhouse of a dogfighter. Great SA, and best guns defense in the community. Professional material as long as he keeps to the brevity. Gives me the creeps. Needs lube to function properly. Plaiskool - Old school pilot and a true gentleman. Respect. Oberst_Zeisig - Dogfight connoisseur. TaccoZ - Sweeper's best friend. Phantom lover. And everyone else who ever flew with me on my "Funcave" server! My Russian friends and sparring partners who I've had the pleasure to train with on the Guns'n'Roses server: Toper_Harley Крылатый AAK Dell_Murrey (that one fight we had this year, you don't know how important it was :):):)) And others. Everyone who participated in the tournament and showed up for their fights. Last but not least my squadron 104th Phoenix - supporting me in all my antics and providing a playground for so many training sessions. Thank you all!!!
  15. This is a good point. AI damage model is a bit of a turn-off, since often for example when you cut a wing off an AI P-51 there is an unexplained "jerk" of the airframe, completely against laws of physics. And to the comments about visual aspect of damage model and other types.. of course one would want to have the full spectrum of features done well and that includes not only systems modeling but also how things look and especially how they feel! This is very important for the flight sim connoisseur :) Good thing this is getting worked on!
  16. Match 50 was published, in 104th server link also.
  17. Hey ED! In your last news letter a sentence stood out, practically attacking me in the face: " We are committed to creating the most authentic recreation of World War II air combat ever done." Now I'm really kindof excited about this ambitious statement.. so I'm asking: is there a plan to remake the damage model for the current DCS WWII aircraft? Because, to be honest, the damage model feels extremely subpar when compared to what you find in IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad, for example.
  18. Bushmanni, check my last link in the beginning of this thread (104th server). I could swear at least match 45 is there... and has been before you mentioned this :P
  19. How exactly do you measure hit distance of the bomb?
  20. Sounds good, let's wait to see what Flank has to say about this and if it's green light then let's make it happen!
  21. Actually I'm 100% for streaming. (did I claim otherwise? :)) But I cannot do it myself, my internet is not good enough to even consider such thing and my monitor is 4:3 aspect CRT so the resolution wouldn't be compatible for such thing either :) F2 and F5 are disabled so the spectator floating camera(which currently cannot be disabled) could be used for that. Then it would only take volunteers to do it and approval from SA.
  22. No. The wheel brake button doesn't provide such a radical move. But the S button shouldn't be feared irrationally, because its use can provide many advantages. It lets you pull a lot of angle of attack, almost regardless of airspeed. While at high speed you can pull that crazy turn (and lose all your speed in the process) the real beauty of direct control becomes evident at low speeds. It gives you a significant nose authority, which lets you do many nice things like for example: -Swing your nose down with ease when at slow speed on top of a loop maneuver (the angular advantage gained here often far exceeds the disadvantage of losing a little speed. -Point your nose radically for a missile/gun shot. This does not need to be an extreme jerk of the stick, a controlled increase of the pull still gives you a lot of extra pitch movement. If you do decide to jerk it, try not lose control completely :) -Avoid overshooting an evasive/slowing bandit. Pulling extreme angle of attack is a wonderful airbrake, much better than the extendable one! -Easily win a flat scissors or slow rolling scissors against an F-15C, or an Su-27 pilot who is too afraid to hit the S key ;) Because slowing down while still maneuvering is key to victory in these. Also, the danger of losing control applies more when the aircraft is heavy. When it's light, you should be able to maintain control, in pretty much any attitude, even after pulling something cobra-esque :)
  23. I understand your point, but I think it's a small price to pay for openness. Then again, if Tacview files were considered "classified information" before the tournament has ended, how could you justify streaming? :)
  24. Plaiskool vs Rage was already flown yesterday, with Plaiskool's victory 4-2. Also you might wanna check the match numbers on the new schedule, they don't seem to be correct...
  25. This post has been corrected, sorry for wrong format :)
