  1. The AI Mig-15 is fantastic. It can be used as a decent sparring partner! Of course you want to fly Mig-15 yourself for the best practice scenario and challenge! All my tests indicate the Sabre to be inferior to Mig-15 in performance.
  2. Don't forget the regular Sidewinder 2, best low budget stick ever made!
  3. Su-27 with full DCS quality would be fantastic, perhaps a later version also.. But my wet dream is any thrust-vectored version of the Flanker or the Fulcrum. This would be both unique and exceedingly awesome.
  4. Took the Mirage for a spin today :) Much better than Mig-21 when it comes to radar and RWR, but still not a force to reckon with since the missiles don't seem to be of very effective kind. In a dogfight things may get a little interesting though.. there's a magic flip switch to turn off Fly By Wire, much like in the Su-27, but this one is on steroids guys, the thing can make a full 360 degree backflip from 200 kts level flight at the moment hihi... too bad there's no R73+helmet sight combo to go with that :( With Fly By Wire, the thing feels surprisingly much like the Falcon's F-16, very effectively dampened and sterile. On a positive note, structural damage from G is modeled and you will rip your wings off if you pull too much G with Fly By Wire off!
  5. Here are my answers: 1) IRST detection range depends heavily on whether the target uses afterburner or not. Afterburning targets can be detected very far(tens of kilometers head-on) while non-afterburning target may only show up within 20km. But I don't think this is too relevant to achieving a stealthy approach. 2) It might continue to warn the target but this is due to a bug and not supposed to be. But targets within IRST detection range can quite easily be acquired with the vertical scan for example, so breaking the radar lock for a second to do this isn't a big deal. 3) For a stealthy approach you should switch radar off long before having a sure IRST lock. Just get a general idea where the enemy is(educated guess, RWR signal or a quick radar sweep), fly in that direction at low altitude, and start IRST scanning (BVR or vertical scan which I prefer). Meanwhile keep an eye on your Beryoza. The Beryoza is your main indicator of whether you've been "busted" and the enemy sees you or not. More than half of Beryoza strength roughly means that you are in danger of being detected. Turn left or right 90 degrees and stay low to beam the target, maybe dive behind a mountain, and disappear from their radar. Once the Beryoza signal disappears, you are probably not being tracked anymore, and can try to resume the stealth approach, or just chicken out and run away. But remember that once Beryoza indicates full strength, the enemy is deadly close and you should fight for your life! Keep in mind that russian enemy jets may detect you with IRST also, so when closing in on a target there's always the possibility that they see you, even if Beryoza is quiet. Oh, and don't try stealth against AI, that doesn't work too well. Instead go on a public server!
  6. This is good news! I don't mind having higher pk for the ET :)
  7. You need to use direct control to exceed 30.. i can post track later when theres time.. merry christmas :)
  8. Don't forget the easy way to deny ET launch authorization from long ranges: don't use afterburner! This way, ETs can only be launched within 10km head-on.
  9. This is exactly what I didn't take into account. Adding kinetic energy to a moving object results in a different speed change depending on the object's initial velocity. I'm not sure it has anything to do with gravity, though. It should work the same in a zero-G environment, when the accelerating force is something else than gravity. When I said it makes more sense I mean that your calculated value corresponds much better to what we see in the sim.
  10. Looks like my Delta V calculation was made with an incorrect logic, thanks for pointing it out Bush! It all makes much more sense now, too...
  11. Nice one ShuRugal! That would suggest that the actual Delta-V for AIM-120A is 1227 m/s, so in this case the 10km altitude would indeed give a significant performance boost to the missile... interesting :)
  12. But still, Su-27 can maintain a stable 40+ degrees AoA in level flight, 30-40 in sustained turns and 70+ momentarily (Cobra or similar move). All while the Mig is limited to below 30 degrees AoA.
  13. EDIT: my delta v calculation was incorrect, disregard this one :)
  14. I fly WWII planes and helicopters with twist stick no problem! Of course, rudder pedals are better in some ways, but they are expensive yes. I would recommend getting something else than Logitech if possible, but some good pilots fly with Logitech, so I guess it's not all bad. I personally recommend this: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Sidewinder-Precision-2-Joystick/dp/B00005NIMA I've sworn by it for over 15 years, always replacing a broken one with another. It has only a few flaws: -Over years the center area will get a little wobbly, which may require slight increase in deadzone. -Trigger button may break if used with passion for years. -I've had one sudden axis failure over the course of 15+ years of daily use. Why is it so much better than Logitech sticks? Larger movement angles, and not as stiff! Too bad it's hard to find unused ones these days..
  15. Holy moly, air launched ICBM! Wonder if the Russians have done that...
  16. They should make a SPAMRAAM that climbs to Low Earth Orbit, flies to the other side of the planet, makes a steep re-entry, and then strikes the unsuspecting target from above 45 degrees angle to avoid RWR detection. (SPAMRAAM = SPACE AMRAAM)
  17. One of the things that kinda surprised me while doing some missile testing recently is that with medium range missiles firing uphill doesn't seem to be much more disadvantageous than firing downhill. The altitude difference doesn't seem to matter that much (if disregarding launch platform speed which is potentially higher for a high flying plane). What matters most is the mean air density on the flight route of the missile. This means that a steeply uphill shot actually has a better range than a shot at a co-altitude target. And a steeply downhill shot has shorter range than a co-altitude shot. The same reason why medium/long-range SAMs have longer effective ranges against high-flying targets.
  18. If you've flown all aircraft recently you may know that the SFM aircraft are currently inferior in performance, in most ways. Migs are inferior to F15 and Su27 in both turn performance(except radius performance against eagle) and acceleration. Su33 is inferior to F15 and Su27 in acceleration and speed. We don't see a problem if people want to fly inferior planes ;)
  19. Great success!

Ja tshesno govora shitaju shto pushka na suhare ludshe tshem na F-15. Problema ne v pushke, a v tom shto sam Su-27 medlennee reagiruet na input joysticka, i po etomu strelba trudnee. I koneshno Su-27 medlennee razganivaetsa, u nevo razmer bolshe(legtshe v nevo popast), i on otshen tshustvitelnii kogda v nevo popadajut. No s R-73, Su-27 otshen silnii koneshno! Ja bi s udovolstviem videl tozhe turniri tolko na Su-27, no koneshno zapadnih pilotov tuda mnogo ne zamanit, potomu shto oni bolshe vsevo na F-15 letajut :)

  22. First Ace Combat event is over with a resounding victory for the western coalition. Congratulations to winners and thank you every single person who participated for making this event a success!! Unfortunately, team west only had two teams since some pilots didn't show up, so for the next time a surplus of pilots will be gathered to make sure there are enough teams. Since the teams can be shuffled, everyone will get to fly. Next time is initially planned to take place on January 23th (Saturday). We plan to have approximately five teams for that day. Sign up for the next time on this thread please, and remember that everyone is welcome to fly regardless of skill level!!! S!
  23. Ok we need to get a replacement for SharpGBR.. anyone? :) dont worry about coming late, you might get to fly anyway
  24. I'll be available for aggressor side, or if no room then maybe challenger side :D 104th_Stuge F-15C Helsinki, Finland Both dates Know the rules
  25. Mission link and event rules updated to front page! Happy to have j00NAS on our team!!!
