You are an armchair pilot who is saying a real pilot is wrong.

Bitchin' Betty was an engineer for Boeing for 35 years. I'm certain she recorded multiple sets of audio warnings for the earliest Hornets vs the latest Hornets vs the Rhinos. Which set of audio warnings was given by Boeing to ED is really only known by Boeing. Not even ED knows exactly which set was given to them because ED wasn't the creator of the audio. If a Hornet pilot with 1200 hours says that the audio he's hearing in the ED module is different from what he heard when he was flying the jet, I will believe the pilot. Is the pilot's perception of the audio was altered because of the noise of the jet or the quality of speakers or perhaps some innate aspect of the encoding, then these can be adjusted for the module with audio filtering. If, on the other hand, the voice audio is distinctly different from the source material for "early" Block 20 aircraft (if you want to call it "early") based on timbre of the voice, pace, intonation, then the only way to fix it is for ED to obtain an earlier set of Bitchin' Betty audio from Boeing/McDonnell Douglas.

Well, the balance appears on my profile again, now with $20 less money in it than before. And when I look at the balance history, this is the error I get: 404 NOT FOUND for: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/personal/bonus/nav-more-transact/page-2/ and: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/personal/bonus/nav-more-transact/page-3/

Thrustmaster response about F-18 stick in development
remi replied to Baz000's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm hoping they're reworking the whole base system to justify base+stick mandatory. -
I don't think you understand what I'm saying. I own every module already. The only modules I haven't bought yet are modules that haven't been available for sale yet. When those modules become available for presale, my bonus money can't be used towards purchasing these modules because it's considered a "discount". So, to make it "work" as you say, I should wait for the presale to end so I can use bonus money, but in the end not save any money because I'm still paying the same for a module?
-
I've tried but have been unable to use my bonus money on any new modules. I've saved no money with the bonus money, and bonus money use won't convince me to wait for a presale to end just so I can use bonus money, especially because the discounts are bigger for presales.
-
I already bought the Hornet with the pre-sale. Again, as I said in my earlier comment, the bonus points are useless if I can't use them towards all purchases. If I wait until the Hornet leaves pre-sale so it goes to full-price, I lose the pre-sale discount advantage and also lose out on accruing additional bonus money that comes with pre-sale purchase. It's pretty clear that the bonus system is more of an accounting "gimmick" and shell game to trick purchasers into thinking their loyalty will be rewarded. I have over $140 in bonus money, and I can't use any of it unless it's a campaign, and even then it's only for a small fraction of that price. Modules can't be purchased with bonus money unless it's "full price" which negates the benefit of the bonus money.
-
If someone owns every ED module already, and $145 bonus points are available to use but those points can't be used to pay for new modules, then what is the purpose of bonus points in this circumstance? There is ZERO money "saved" and doesn't make the products any cheaper. If ED is going to have a loyalty system with bonus points, then bonus points should be usable towards any purchase. As it stands currently (at least prior to reconstruction of the system), "bonus points" are more of a gimmick than anything valuable.
-
It would be a nice feature to be able to spend my bonus money on modules for family members . . .
-
I have over $140 in bonus money, and it seems like I never have an opportunity to actually use it. I hope the reworking of the system addresses this.

I second the recommendation to wait for the BFGD. 4k = ideal destination 120+Hz = necessary 27" = too pixel dense for games or standard desktop use 65" = enough space to feel immersed in the game, and low enough pixel density up close that standard Windows scaling should be appropriate and work well for normal desktop uses like web browsing. In other words, if the screen had more pixels at 8k resolution, would 27" be reasonable? Would 8k @ 34" be reasonable? Probably not. I'm imagining this is the future:

Really, early access with 90% of combat effectiveness not completed for initial release? You'll be waiting longer for hornet features than the next version of GPU and CPU releases. The goal should be 4k @144hz, and the current generation of hardware sure as hell can't do that. -
Let me just say one thing: There's a reason why Matt Wagner puts his videos out on the Hornet using a monitor + TrackIR: he can actually see details in the cockpit. If you have any hope of actually using an aircraft to its full capability, you simply can not use VR. You NEED to be able to read cockpit instruments. I don't understand why people here would suggest VR should be purchased before monitor + TrackIR. VR should only be used as a novelty in addition to a monitor, not exclusively. MAYBE if VR screen resolution was 5x better than current tech and there was no problem with performance or screen door effect, then MAYBE you could go solely with VR, but we're nowhere close to that.

nVidia Big Format Gaming Displays (BFG-D)
remi replied to streakeagle's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The great conundrum with 4k displays is what you're going to do with all the extra space. Remember, 4k is just multiple smaller 1080p monitors in the same display. If you want to work on word processor, just make it a smaller window in the big display, and it'll be like working on a 1080p monitor at the same viewing distance. If you want to watch TV, just roll your chair back, or maybe even have a couch behind your usual chair, and you'll have an excellent TV to watch, or play games with the built-in Nvidia console. What would you rather have, a 27" 4k display that has issues with size of scaling and would be terrible as a TV, or a 65" screen that can be used for everything depending on where you sit? -
I've seen a few topics recently where people were asking if they should get CV1. Unfortunately for the posters, there were enough people heaping praises for the "immersion" offered by the CV1, that they should abandon all reason and purchase a CV1 immediately, despite CV2 being around the corner. Then, news of the next version of the oculus gets announced, and the people who were duped by these users now need to live with a several hundred dollar mistake. That's not fair to those people.

For those who think VR is really that great, check out this smattering of issues from this forum alone: "Is support for VR dwindling?" "NVG only in one eye" "Help reading MFD's and buttons!" "Mouse hover" "2.5 Video Settings - VR Quality/Performance Balance" "VR Quality Lowered in 2.5.1.16543 ?" "Still no right click with touch controllers ?" "Poor VR performance, is it just me?" "DS gamma above 1.3 causes dots" "fog cancellation inside the Oculus" "Mismatched display between L and R eyes (tracers, grass)" "night time flying looks like dust everywhere" "Need Help-Cockpit too bright" "Oculus Rift Help, game won't load VR even when forced" "Help with two VR problems: Steam VR loading screen and DCS out-of-focus" "Can't turn ASW off after the recent update" "Within Visual Range combat using virtual reality in Harrier"

I don't think you understand that 8k gaming at 120+Hz is literally 5+ years away, unlike Oculus CV2 which will be due out before 2 years from now. 4k gaming, on the other hand, is the sweet spot that will guarantee plenty of use for the years to come. Hard to say the same thing about CV1, and even people in this thread who own CV1 say they will buy CV2 when available. If CV1 was really that great, people here would use that same hardware for the next 5 years instead of quickly ditching it in favor of "better" hardware.
-
I guess you would discount the experiences of all the users who stopped using VR because of the issues mentioned.
-
There's no need for gsync for VR headsets.
-
8k displays already exist, and I decided against them because of low refresh rate, no gsync availability, cost, scaling problems, and low performance in games.
-
Yeah, overall a "meh" experience, doesn't even come close to the users here who have deluded themselves into thinking 1st gen tech is the best thing since sliced bread. I think VR is the future, we're just not there yet. You can enjoy not being able to actually function as a pilot should with your beta-quality goggles on, and I'll just continue to enjoy actually seeing stuff while in the cockpit with clear and sharp 4k ultra-quality :D

nVidia Big Format Gaming Displays (BFG-D)
remi replied to streakeagle's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The BFGD, if you're sitting within a few feet of the TV comfortably, gives about 120 degrees horizontal FOV and 70 degrees in the vertical, which is higher than CV1, and the higher resolution more than makes up for the slight decrease in FOV compared with CV2. Obviously, nothing comes close to Pimax 8k for FOV, but I still think if you're going to spend $$$ on a display, might as well make it the most functional: as TV, as gaming monitor, as regular desktop monitor. VR still only can be used for gaming, and I would never expect it to replace a traditional monitor for desktop work or even casual web browsing. -
Because the graybeards in here keep telling people to buy old generation hardware instead of telling them to wait a few months to get the latest. The voice of reason. Just take a look at this forum and you'll see bug after bug users are struggling with, in addition to performance problems, in addition to fundamental flaws in early hardware: screen door effect, low resolution, blurriness, inability to identify targets at distance, inability to read cockpit detail, low graphical quality to improve fps, narrow fov, inability to interact with cockpit easily, reliance on keyboard or hotas, et cetera. But muh "immersion"!!
-
The fov of Oculus is definitely less than sitting up close to a large 4k monitor, 40+ inches. By design, the Oculus has very very narrow fov. Very unrealistic compared to ultrawide.
