Question on a new build I am doing
remi replied to dburne's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm in a similar setup, I went with: 9900K MSI Z390 Godlike 1x 970 pro 1tb 2080ti FE I think 1tb is all you need (at the moment). When you need more space in the future, the price for an SSD will be lower than it is today, and you'll be able to get more/better storage. The big advancement in storage in the next few years will be Optane DIMMs that have an even faster connection to the CPU. Once Optane gets quantity for DIMMs in the 1-2tb range, you won't even need M.2 anymore. By then, there'll be even faster GPUs and CPUs. You've got a great system put together, it should last you 5+ years easy. -
I spent $130 on the tomcat module at launch of presale, I have an expectation that something as simple as that would be done without a hitch. Doesn't bode well for the actual module.

I tried saving it to Dropbox. Error, couldn't complete. 0 downloads remaining. Uhhh, seriously Heatblur? This is inexcusable!:mad::mad:

Yeah, I used it x2, didn't work at all. There better be a fix for this. WTF is with the limited download anyways? I bought the double-license version too ($129!!).

9900k and 2080ti looks like the best combo. Disappointed in the lack of PCIe lanes on the Intel consumer platform though.

Nvidia Slowly Becoming a Monopoly?
remi replied to Nooch's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yes, great idea, reward poor performance with hard earned money just to chase the benevolent duty to support inferior companies. To each his own. -
That link shows you're wrong. Not a single mention of GameWorks. Raytracing is a standard within the graphics APIs. DLSS is a feature that's provided for free and taken care of by Nvidia. Having 40-50+% improvement in AA performance without degradation of image quality via DLSS is something that Matt Wagner specifically said DCS will not have? Are you serious?

Might as well wait a few weeks for the 9900k. -
Nvidia RTX cards and DCS - ?

It looks like it would be fairly easy to get both dlss and raytracing Incorporated, though dlss is proprietary and has huge performance improvement compared with traditional graphics output. -

And you're basing this off... Rumor and unoptimized drivers? If these cards were garbage, Nvidia wouldn't be pricing it this high. Even without raytracing, a 50% improvement over 1080ti rumored is nothing to sneeze at. -

I guess all the people pre-ordering the latest and greatest are using up all the manufacturing capacity for the cards at the moment. I guess those people didn't listen to the naysayers who are regretting their 1080ti purchases!!! :megalol: -

9900K Z390 2080ti x2 in SLI optane SSD -
A flight sim would be ideal for ray-tracing: Shadows can be accurately processed through RTX and the DLSS can help significantly with getting better image quality with less GPU use. In fact, raytracing makes lighting so much simpler: you have either a sun or a moon. You have clouds. You have atmospheric effects on the light. You have materials that interact with the light. Compare that with traditional GPU processing: prebaking everything which gives everything a nondynamic lighting. Prebaking requires considerable resources of an artwork team that can't be altered easily as you can with raytracing.

anyone using a 4k HD TV as your main monitor?
remi replied to gear_monkey's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I think you're wrong on spotting with 4k. The problem isn't the resolution but the pixel density. The larger the screen, the lower the pixel density, increasing ability of spotting. -

I've thought about this in relation to the BFGD. I think if you put the TrackIR on a pole behind your chair with the LEDs or reflectors facing rearward, you won't have any problems with loss of tracking. -
Nvidia Claiming 35 - 45% Performance Increase.
remi replied to Tinkickef's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If SLI is possible using the nvlink, but with less overhead because of the nvlink, SLI 2080ti might be able to have 2-2.5x the performance of a single 1080ti. Amazing times to live! -

I want to upgrade to the 1080Ti; how long should I wait?

Are you advocating the purchase of a Vega 64? Are you insane?
