  1. To satisfy your hunger for the old girl Lurker, I would not have my feelings hurt one bit if they brought the F-111 to DCS. I must admit, she would be fun running night raids. Also here is a good photo of her with the A-7 which we have coming. They go together like peas in a pod.
  2. There is only one way to deal with what we all want out of this module, go full 3rd party dev! Shit, post a kickstarter campaign or Go fund me and I will throw dollar bills at you like you are on stage. This C-130 module is a must for next years dynamic campaign release. Especially with the intentions and already implementation of the weapons systems. A team of 3 or 4 dudes flying one AC-130 or combat cargo drop on the servers would be the cats ass. Especially night ops and Soar units. I really continue to hope ED is picking up on the community and their interest in this outstanding mod. Keep up the brilliant work Anubis. You got everyone fired up!
  3. Lurker, Hate to burst your bubble brother but here is the exact quote from HB specifically stating themselves this has been under development for sometime now and is being developed with the intent of becoming a full module. They are working towards the license agreement which is the reason for only an AI unit at this time. This was not an enthusiastic fan based rumor we started. This is straight from the horses mouth. And has it been years? Absolutely, only furthering my speculation this is the next module given the fact that it takes a minimum several years to make one to their standards. Not as much as a fart has ever been released about looking at or remotely being interested in making the F-111. I do not want to wash your parade out and I really like the Aardvark, but it would be like me saying the F-105 Thunderchief is what they could be working on next. Legendary aircraft and I want it more than a lap dance, but it is not in the cards at this time. As promised, here is the quote from HB.
  4. Lurker, Please do not buy into Eldur's comment about the Intruder. He/She is not well informed to its performance or role on the battlefield. There is a reason the A-7 Corsair did not carry on the same type of mission the Intruder did, and there was a variant that was outfitted later on in the Gulf War with Sidewinders I believe. Below is a really good documentary with a lot of pilot testimony and video giving a good example of why it was so iconic. Do not get me wrong, I would love to see the Aardvark make her way into the DCS hangar, day 1 buy for me. But given what HB has said in the past, specifically they were building the AI Intruder as if it was going to be a full module, and then the layout and very very close similarities of to the F-14 avionics, I think it is a better bet they will tackle her first. Check out the similarities between the A-6 and F-14 cockpits below.
  5. A few hours ago I was running through a few training missions I had set up on the NTTR map with the F-18. I like to fly them once every other week or so to stay proficient with the air to ground capabilities of the F-18. I started thinking after watching my TacView approaches, I would really like to see my ingress/egress movements mirror the real thing when providing CAS. I know Combined Arms needs to see improvement but in the mean time, I figured I would try to start improving my tactics regarding CAS. After doing a small amount of research online, I actually turned up 3 really good PDF's regarding CAS. They are all older military docs and were free to download. I highly encourage anyone who wants to learn some in depth training regarding CAS to check out the 3 PDF's I attached. VERY long reads, but well worth the time. Especially for those who like to use multiplayer servers and work as a team. These will come in real handy when we get the Apache and Hind in the near future. They cover rotor CAS, artillery support, and fixed wing. Let me know what you guys think and if you have TacView and use any of these tactics, post the videos on here. OBS works real well for recording TacView so you can upload to YouTube. I will try to post a few Tac videos after setting up a few of these approaches. The new grid function on the F-18 will work well with implementing these ground attacks. Any of you who are really good at making missions, please let us know on this thread if you create any using material from these documents. I would like to see some pretty realistic CAS missions come out of this if possible. CAS PDF.pdf CAS 2 PDF.pdf CAS 3 PDF.pdf

  6. I have not been able to locate this video on YouTube yet, but here is the battle stations for the AC-130. This is looking damn good for a mod. I am really hoping this continues to a full fledge module. https://streamable.com/glhhtd
  7. Holy shit this guy needs his own team! Eagle Dynamics really needs to get with Anubis on this mod and release the full potential of the SDK to him. Anubis, get yourself a team together and go full EFM. This video should sell everyone on the reason we need a full C-130 module for the upcoming dynamic campaign. I have no doubt the support from the community is there for a full fidelity C-130. So many options for this module. I would love to see this module taken to its fullest potential.
  8. This really needs to be considered for a 3rd party module Anubis. With the dynamic campaign coming next year, this would be instrumental in deploying assets to the battlefield. Someone has already started combat drops with your mod on YouTube. Because of the way they saved the video I cannot imbed it to view from the forum so here is the link. The roles the C-130 has would really persuade a lot of people to buy it I think. They could include hot combat drops, Insertion/extraction for SF/SEAL units, boat role outs over the sea, close air support with an AC variant, moving troops and supplies to forward deployed bases, French maritime operations including Harpoon and Hellfire use ect..... The dynamic campaign will surely be implementing these tasks to keep the campaign pushing forward. I would like to see these tasks available for a real player to complete with a C-130 module. It would be a perfect fit. Not only that, it would open up air support/intercept missions for other players flying fighters. A lot of good things would come from this module and be challenging. I can only imagine the daunting task of taking this on yourself, but I bet there are people out there willing to assist in making this a full blown product. DCS needs it. Hope this eventually finds its way to a full fledge module like others we have scene do the same. Keep up the amazing work!
  9. Really appreciate the encouragement Jackjack. Todays traps were not the prettiest. I will however say I have found yet another tool that works really well on improving your launches, patterns, and approaches. TacView. I finally bought it last night and I am kicking my own ass for not buying it long before now. Between TacView, the nee board HB provides, and the LSO grades I have a pretty good toolbox going on here. Did some dog fighting in the F-86 this morning and the feedback/self debrief I got off of TacView will forever change how I fight in DCS/air combat. I am looking forward to reviewing all my flights now with this software. I literally spent over an hour analyzing where I made mistakes and watching the opposing Migs performance. For those interested, the dog fight was single player and TacView works phenomenal for it. In this video below, I did 2 passes at the carrier. My TacView debrief is at the end. Time stamps are provided in the video to click on to skip ahead. I have created this mission specifically for getting a feel for distance on downwind, bas, final, and 3/4 approach. The two destroyers on either side of the carrier are placed at 1.4mi, the destroyer furthest back is 1 mile off the stern of the carrier, and the one in between is 3/4 off the stern. I know this is not a normal fleet configuration, but it works good for learning and remembering distances in relations to the carrier. As always, I encourage people to post on here. Looking forward to the A model coming on the 19th! You can guarantee I will be testing her out. LSO Grade GRADE:C:LULX 3PTSIW WIRE# 4 GRADE Cut. Unsafe. 10. I could not agree more on the helos! Especially once we get the dynamic campaign. I really hope they implement SAR missions. When a player is shot down, it creates a mission for helo pilots to go recover a downed AI pilot.
  11. Great to see something new coming out of the OG! Looking forward to this if it is indeed going to be a DCS module.
  12. In the first video, I took off from Creech and practiced working on my AOA approaches for the carrier. The last two I did simulated case 1 recoveries. They were not the best by far, but they did help in the second video for my case 1. This was the first time I actually was able to maintain AOA fairly well in the Tomcat. Far from perfect, but I think I will keep working AOA practice at Creech and then transition to the carrier. It has helped learning the sweet spot between increasing/decreasing throttle, using trim, and really trying to let the DLC work its magic on final. On the case 1 in this video, I cut to soon and failed to use the DLC. Had I maintained speed and used the DLC, I think I could have hit the 3 wire without an issue. VR is the shit! I forgot to look at the damn knee board to see my grade. I am still going to post LSO grades until I am thoroughly convinced it is way off. After watching my video, it would seem the grades are not to far off from my flying. I would really like you guys who are saying it is broken to post some videos of your case 1's so I could see a perfect approach with the LSO making bad calls. I am not at this level yet and think it would be beneficial for everyone to see, including the devs. Nealius or Reflected, would you guys be willing to post a few of your Case 1's? OBS is free and easy to install/use if you do not have it already. Sounds like you gents are pretty locked on with the Tomcat. LSO Grade GRADE:---:_SLOX_ _LOIC_ 1WIRE No-grade. Below average but safe pass, Slow At start, Low In close, 1WIRE
  13. Nealius, I took your advice and incorporated the kneeboard into the videos. I am still testing the LSO behavior with the Tomcat. I have not received a consistent "your slow" every time I land. But then again, my AOA is not on point every time. In todays video, I decided to do the quick mission for a shore landing at Batumi on my second landing. Looks great in VR! Only got one good decent case 1 in today. I was not going to post the other three because I was being distracted by my wife while trying to focus on landing. Hanging curtains was apparently a bigger calling than my LSO grades. I also incorporated the ACL today as you will see. It helps tremendously when turning in on final and ensuring you are at the right glide slope. I will continue to practice without it utilizing the AOA indicator and meatball, but it sure improves your success ratio. Feels like cheating though. LSO Grade GRADE: OK: _LOIC_ 4WIRE Reasonable deviations with good corrections, Low In close, 4WIRE
  14. I was hoping for the hind to be released this year, but it sounds like from the recent interview a couple days ago with Simon Pearson (ED Business Dev director), it will be out 1st quarter of 2021. According to him, our Christmas present will be the Mosquito. Not complaining at all! It will only be a few months later the Hind will make her grand entrance. They are supposed to announce a few other projects expected for 2022 before the end of the year. Expecting one of those to be the Apache. Looks like next year the big thing on the radar is the Dynamic Campaign and hopefully weather. That is not to say we do not have a lot of amazing things coming from third party devs though. Kiowa should be here soon.
  15. Any closer to hearing more about Whistling Death???
  16. Thanks for the nitpick Dragon. I always do that. That is honestly an insult to the Phantom. LOL Totally down for the A-1. That and the intruder would be the dream.
  17. Thanks for the feedback so far. Top Jockey, the FLOLS is include with the Super Carrier module. To my knowledge, I do not thing there is a way to turn it off right now. I thought I remember people asking for that option, but to be honest, I like using it. Before anyone points it out, I just noticed I was deploying the speed break way to soon. Needs to be deployed at the break, not before. Should have known this, not sure why I thought it was before. A bit embarrassing.
  18. This may have already been discussed, but is there a way to use a mic and call 3/4 of the mile when getting ready to land? It is a pain in the ass trying to watch when the command is available to hit F2 and then call the ball. I would much rather be able to call the ball myself. Even better, call all the inbound traffic to the carrier. If not, is this something ED is looking at for a possible addition? I know there was talk about improving radio comms. I hope something along these lines get implemented.
  19. Here is today's 3 traps so far. The first two sucked. I was trying to trim before the break instead of trying to hold 800 at 350 with the speed break deployed. It requires a lot of back pressure on the stick to hold between 750 and 800 before the break if you are to maintain 350kts. Note the wings are retracted to 68 degrees as prescribed in the approach. The second error I caught myself doing was not giving her enough throttle when coming out on the downwind for the first 2 passes. I would loose altitude quickly. I was also not trimming before starting my base approach and going into final. I find the trim on the Tomcat an acquired taste that takes a lot of practice. I look forward to learning better bolter procedures as I seem to master those quickly. On the third pass, I did not turn in on the base approach so early, giving me time to adjust when rolling out on final. The trim was still not the best. I was really trying to keep the speed as close to the numbers as possible. I am not sure if this is something I did or a bug, but I noticed the AOA indicator was not lighting up or giving any indication at all. I am not sure if this is something I had turned off or if there was a problem. It may have something to do with the next issue and that is my AOA itself. I was roughly 5 to 6 degrees off and never at 15 as prescribed. This was a bit confusing because for the first time ever, I landed a perfect 3 wire according to the LSO. I am not sure if AOA is taken into factor when graded by the LSO. Please comment and let me know what you think about the videos. I have started time stamping at the bottom so everyone can cut to the chase. No need for long drawn out videos. I will average 3 recoveries a video unless I am just crushing it and do a lot better. Seems after about two though practice runs, I start to improve, so we will see. Look forward to seeing others post their carrier landings. 20. Well gents, it is finally time for me to step up my skills. I have always been able to make it back to the carrier ok and even make it look decent, but never payed any attention to the LSO grades. So now the time has come to REALLY challenge myself and get in the habit of landing the Tomcat by the book. I have a lot more experience in the DCS F-18, but I grew up around the Tomcat and felt I was doing her a disservice by not landing on the carrier appropriately. This WILL take some time to perfect. I always fly in VR (PIMAX 8K). I use Chucks DCS F-14 guide (Highly recommend any guide of his for DCS modules at mudspike) for correct case I, II, and III procedures. I will stick to case I for a while utilizing TACAN Nav and flying the meatball. Eventually when I feel this looks good and the grades are consistent, I will move onto utilizing the ICLS and working case II and III recoveries and more advanced landings. By now, I am pretty sure most of us can land on the carrier day/night and foul weather, but is it good and what do the grades look like. I am going to start posting my videos and LSO scores on this forum. I highly encourage anyone to do the same on this thread going forward. There are very few videos on YouTube actually showing good LSO landings with the old girl. I am far from perfect or even good, but I hope through practice, patience, constructive feedback, and others posting to this thread, we can all become more proficient at landing the Tomcat on the carrier. I hope this challenges other DCS players to start working their LSO grades/landings. The video below is my first one actually trying to line up all procedures correctly on a case 1. Clearly the first two passes were extremely embarrassing. After wondering why the hell I kept getting a bolter, I realized I never dropped my hook. I hyped myself up after reading through the procedures and said "I got this", nope. I also for the first time learned the absolute importance of the Tomcat DLC on landing. Never used it before today. I cannot stress enough, practice and utilize the DLC. I have a long way to go mastering it, but you can see the difference it made on my third approach. I will always post my LSO scores below. I hope others follow. This will help remember the acronyms for the LSO grades going forward and create muscle memory to prevent errors on future approaches. I encourage all forms of constructive feedback. I have a thick skin and do not get offended easily. Please try to keep this forum on point with the subject. OBS is the recording software I use and if anyone is interested, I will post my computer specs. I have a new computer, but sadly, the optimization with DCS right now and VR is still lacking as we all know. In headset though, it looks and runs pretty good, but still looking forward to Vulkan and better VR performance in the future. Please advise if any of you are having streaming problems. Here are the three LSO grades for my first video. LSO: GRADE:B _SLOX_ _LOIM_ _TMRDIC_ _LOIC_ Bolter, Slow At the start, Low in the middle, To much rate of descent In close, Low In close LSO: GRADE:B _DRX_ _LURX_ _FX_ (LURIM) (DLIC) Bolter, Drifted right At the start, Lined up right At the start, Fast At the start, Lined up right In the middle (a little), Drifted Left In close (a little) LSO: GRADE (OK):WIRE#3[bC] Fair landing with reasonable deviations, 3 Wire, [no ball call made]
  21. Middle Earth. Who wants to buzz the shire in a Huey?
  22. Here is a unique one for you gents, the F-4D Skyray. Weird looking plane, but Navy none the less and had a decent operational history with the Navy and Marines.
  23. I would not mind seeing the Grumman Panther. It would be a nice addition to our Korean era aircraft. With the Corsair on the way, the F-86, and the MiG-15, we are shaping up for the North Korean conflict. There are also a few Helos to compliment that time period too. The H-19, H-5, H-25, and the Mash H-13.
  24. Great news! Really looking forward to this update.
  25. Well Gents, It looks like we have a pretty good size of Naval assets inbound. HB has not confirmed it, but I think the A-6 is a very strong possibility for a future module, given the fact they said they would like to make it happen. I believe there was something posted when they first released the teaser video of the AI model that said they were building as if they were creating a full module until they got the approval. Moving on Magnitude is making progress with the F-8 Crusader which is shaping up nicely. Really looking forward to this one. As posted in the newest weekly update, FlyingIron Simulations is crushing the A-7E. I absolutely cant wait to take her up the first time and bring her back on deck. REALLY looking forward to this one. Then we have HB releasing the A model F-14 soon. And we cannot leave out Razbams bad ass Harrier (Even though she is technically Marines) the Navy is her dad. So this begs the big question. What does the community want to see for the Navy next? I think we can all agree the F-4 is the big girl missing from the picture. But what about others? I love the community A-4 module, but I would really like to see an EFM module of the A-4D done correctly for the Navy. And we cannot leave out the A-1 Skyraider. With the Navy getting thoroughly fleshed out in the future, are there more modules you would like to see? I personally think it will be time soon to turn towards more Navy Helos. Possibly the H-46 Sea Knight, Sikorsky H-3, Sikorsky Sea King, Seasprite, Sikorsky H-52, SH-60 Sea Hawk ect... What are your thoughts about Navy modules going forward?
