  1. what do you mean by "not identical"? aren't both the hornet's engines of the same type?
  2. i've never had to use dual throttles in the a-10c. i don't like having to decouple the throttles and then lift them off the detent each time i start up, so i use the keyboard commands instead to spin up the left and right engines independently. you can do this even if you've got the "sync to controls on start" setting enabled. i can only see dual throttles being useful for when you want to compensate for asymmetrical thrust, but i'd end up crashing in that situation with or without dual throttles.
  3. also the price will go up once it's released, so buy it now if you want to save a couple bucks.
  4. i know the site says that it's available for purchase via the module manager, but it actually won't show up there until it's released into early access. if you want to preorder before release, you'll have to buy it from the site instead. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/shop/modules/hornet/
  5. same here. got the hornet + persian gulf together. i was always a few years behind new releases because my hardware was never up to date. this time i've gone all out (or as far as my budget allowed me to go) and will for the first time get the chance to enjoy something new with everyone else. :) my wife has a point. what's the pointing of earning if we're not going to spend it on ourselves from time to time?
  6. how long will it stay in beta?
  7. this is early access to an entire module we're talking about. can't be limited to just beta.
  8. for carrier landings or takeoffs, remember ctrl+E x 3.
  9. The MSN (or c/n) for nearly every USAF, Navy or Marines aircraft seems to be known. Where exactly are these MSNs retrieved from? I don't imagine the manufacturers would ever list them for public viewing. For example, 1448/C464 is an F/A-18C built by McDonnell Douglas with the BuNo 165407. The BuNo is visible on the aircraft but the MSN is not, so how was 1448/C464 matched to BuNo 165407?
  10. Slightly off-topic but related question: if an aircraft is converted from one variant to another, is its construction number changed? e.g. F/A-18C BuNo 165407's construction number is 1448/C464.
  11. I wanted to post this in one of the existing threads, but apparently it was locked after turning into a heated debate on meteorology and celestial objects. So the modules section says that the F/A-18C can be purchased from the in-game module manager, but I don't see it listed anywhere. How did you guys pre-purchasing this thing?
  12. That's interesting. Has a C/D conversion ever been done in the US Navy or Marines?
  13. Anyone know if there are any known cases of F/A-18Cs being converted to Ds or vice versa?
  14. Went out for a walk today and saw a tree with some leaves. That means we're at the end of spring now, right?
  15. I'm assuming that like the aircraft in all other modules, the Harrier modeled in DCS is based on an older "version" and doesn't have the latest and greatest systems. What year would you say RAZBAM's Harrier resembles the most closely?
  16. Personally I can't wait to try out the Hornet's SEAD capability, but I guess I'm going to have to wait a while for that. The first thing I want to do is kill a bunch of SA-11s with the AGM-88 because I hate the SA-11 with a passion.
  17. I still don't get it. The F/A-18C can carry Sparrows too, can't it? Or do you mean that the early access version currently doesn't have anything besides Sparrows? Once again excuse the dumb questions... I'm new to the Hornet. :P
  18. I'm a little new to the DCS Hornet so please excuse me if this is a silly question, but will the final release Hornet be a proper C model or is it always going to be closer to the A model in terms of capability?
  19. I noticed that some of the aircraft in the 165399 to 165408 range are Marines rather than Navy. Are there any differences between the Marines and Navy F/A-18C?
  20. Amazing. Thank you sir.
  21. As with most military aircraft, I'm sure the F/A-18C has gone through various upgrades and modifications throughout its service life. I am now searching through airliners.net's image library for photos of the same "version" of the F/A-18C modeled in this DCS module. Any thoughts as to what year and bureau number ranges I should be searching for? Link: http://www.airliners.net/search?aircraft=33985&display=detail
  22. I read that before creating this thread. The thread you linked doesn't mention anything about Sniper compatibility.
  23. Anyone have a list of externally visible features that set the A-10C apart from the earlier variants? I always thought that the arrow shaped AN/ARC-210 BLOS antenna behind the cockpit was only present on the A-10C, but apparently this is not the case and I can't use that as a visual indicator. I then started looking at the loadout thinking that if the aircraft is carrying a Sniper XR, it's an A-10C because earlier variants (including the A-10+) were not compatible with Sniper, but once again I can't find any sources that confirm this. Some of you may have seen my other thread on Sniper compatibility. Thoughts?
