Virtual Aerobatics Server - Dedicated Media Thread
tovivan replied to Eight Ball's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Server is down again and has been pretty much the entire afternoon. Last night it crashed 3 times within one hour. Hopefully it will be fixed soon. -
Anyone know what happened to a server called "ACTION"?

Rgr, thanks anyway. :) -

Please ignore the skins, they're replacements I use because I like these better than the stock ones. ;-) This still happened on the VA server. Flight took almost 2 hours, destination quadrant MP-80 (I think). Since I had only about a ton of fuel left I decided to land there. :) -

... a server called "ACTION"? It was I *think* either Europe or Russia based, had a combat mission running and AI as enemies as well. You started in Mozdok or Nalchik, enemy was around Kutaisi IIRC. Pretty nicely set-up and tidy server I have to say, I really enjoyed flying on it. Last time I saw it was maybe in 1.2.14? Not sure. Thanks!

I'm running the same version. It's just maybe possible that I tried to connect during those exact times the server was down. At times it seems to be down for not so short a time (after all, admins have RL as well and can't be checking it 24/7...). About half an hour after I posted the original message the server was back up and I logged in and flew normally. So, I guess that just my timing is freakily exact, lol. :pilotfly: -

In that case there is something wrong with my game. Will need to investigate. Thanks for the reply! -

Holy crap, Skull, those are EXCELLENT! What kind of mods do you use and what monster of a system do you have? -
I even saw a PLAYER-controlled Su-25T with no wings and both engines on fire land successfully. Well, okay, "land" is pretty optimistically put, but he executed the approach and, even though he rolled sideways to a stop, his pilot survived IIRC.:pilotfly:

Is it just me or is the server down half the time if not more? Noticed since the most recent update. I keep starting the game only to not find it in the list. -

I've been trying to connect to your server, but for the past few weeks I keep getting "rejected" at connection. As soon as I double click on the server name in the multiplayer list, the pop-up window shows "Connection interrupted", without loading mission first or anything.. I used to fly on the server and loved it, sadly can't connect anymore. :( EDIT: that last vid is some of the most amazing virtual flying I've seen in my life. Excellent job! -
Nope, deployed them around 200 kts. Yes, it does. :) Has less functions than FC3 planes iirc, but same buttons. lalt+2 engages the usual alt+heading hold, while lalt+9 disables it. It was actually there that this happened. Mentioned it in chat and at least one other person confirmed it.

Very glad for getting the mapping options, thanks. :) Now to the bad points: - comms still don't work, even with the key bound, which means no refueling and no repairs (annoying if you flew across the map and then had a hard landing that you survived) - even with mapping fixes the autostart still doesn't work - and for some reason after a while flaps will stop responding - doesn't matter if I use joystick buttons or keyboard or even the switch in cockpit - there was no damage to plane so that can't be the reason. they just stopped responding and working - autopilot (lalt+2) has some issues, for some reason it allows the plane to drift off-course. Set it to 150', came back to the PC 10 minutes later and for some reason my plane was now flying 030' course - occasionally the radio (?) aka the digital screen with numbers under the floodlight switch won't work after start - the high-pitched beep when you turn battery on occasionally won't work when doing cold start - when switching from another craft into the C101 (at least on a server) the game will crash, but that won't happen when you connect to server and chose the 101 as your first plane and lastly, but not least - there is no control indication (rctrl+Enter) that every DCS module has. Something that can be a bit hampering in a plane that has such a slow pick up and top speed as the C101

It wasn't very good honestly and IIRC the critics and viewers weren't very enthusiastic either. Honestly I can't think of a really good helicopter movie, only "Blue Thunder" comes close and only because of Roy Scheider and the ending - but that's subjective, since I rather liked that actor. LOL, I even had a small toy model of the chopper back then which was bought in a normal store in what was seen in the West as just another oppressive, controlled and locked-down Communist country. ;-P I haven't read it yet, but I hear the book "Gunship Ace" by Al Venter is an interesting read. This. Hopefully the Hind - later version of course, not some early like A or D or any that use Falanga (or Mi-28 :D ) and multicrew are in the near future.

You need a stick and throttle, they said...
tovivan replied to siraccord's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Sadly you missed the point I was trying to make completely. Please note that I specifically said I am not pointing fingers or naming names or speaking about needing a stick. Nowhere, in no word or sentence, did I talk about you or the others you mentioned or about your position. What I was trying to get across is that some members in this entire community, not just thread, have.... "exceeded their jurisdictions" and are either giving unrequested forceful advice or consciously or unknowingly putting pressure on other members of this community in regards to the amount of money those "should" spend on their hardware for this game. I will refrain from speaking again in this topic because follow-up posts by the poster, where he either tries to explain or defend his words, never bring anything good. Thank you and good day. :) -
Wouldn't mind several more Russian liveries included into the module for use with vanilla servers. ;-)

You need a stick and throttle, they said...

I would just like to chime in because I've noticed a common thread in this community. It's been bothering me for a while, but I've held my tongue until a post in this topic finally pushed me out of silence. It seems to me that some of you have lost sight of rational expenditure for what is, after all, a game. Now, what you do with your money is nobody's business, and I'm not talking about that, but there has been some pressure on fellow DCS pilots, either subtle or peer pressure, to spend larger amounts of money on hardware and it's usually centered around joysticks. In most cases this pressure seems to stem from a perception that that that is how it is supposed to be for whatever reason, or from some other reason, but the end result is it appears as pressure to do that to be an "actual" part of the group, or belong or fit in or, in extreme cases, not to be mocked. The members in question need to remember that for example the Warthog, the so-often recommended or pressured purchase, costs a larger slice of monthly paycheck for way too many Europeans, and in the case of Eastern and South-Eastern Europe it IS the entire monthly paycheck! Not all of us have the privilege of pulling in thousands of dollars or euro per month, thus having the opportunity to spend 500 euro on a gaming peripheral is to too many just a ridiculous thought. In way too many cases many people are struggling to get through the month as it is... Costs of life are rising rapidly while paychecks are either stagnating or falling. And with no jobs and destroyed economies it's hard to get into a better financial position. Even the X-52, which is sometimes seen as the lowest acceptable standard around here, is pretty expensive by our standards. Last time I checked it cost cca 120 euro brand new for the cheapest version and when I tracked it I never saw a used one go for less than 60 eur on any of the EU eBays. While the ironic thing is, you don't need the most expensive joystick to be a good pilot. One of the best pilots I ever met, which was in IL-2 Cliffs of Dover (a sim where flight models are more sensitive), used a several years old Logitech joystick that costs cca 40 eur new... And he regularly massacred players with set-ups of over 500 eur, some even 1k eur... We are talking about a WWII full-in dogfight simulation with engine management (or else engine failure) with realistic plane component battle damage/destruction where you are not flying lazily and in a straight line at 5km and your combat is limited to just selecting and sending AMRAAMs at dots that show up on your radar... There's more maneuvering in one hour of MP play on the ATAG server in that game than a DCS server gets in a whole day. I'm not saying that this is the intention, far from it, but please consider just how far a desperate need to fit in with group/circle/gang/clique can push someone (young people and drugs/smoking/drinking, etc.). The pressure to spend an inordinate amount of money on what is a game (there IS a real life out there... ) that can sometimes be felt in this community can sometimes make people who are not as privileged to live in a rich country and have the opportunity to hit it big or be born to rich parents, feel less worthy. Ease off the pressure and your recommendations when they weren't requested. As they say, live and let live. In the end, I'd just like to put in a disclaimer that this post wasn't meant as inflammatory, nor am I pointing fingers at anyone, but am just asking for a little more relaxed atmosphere in what is, after all a small community for acomputer game. Thank you. -
If they do a US-only (or even West-only) line-up I'm gonna commit a Chris Crocker cause I don't fly or like US planes and I really like the MiG-21 they sold us. A MiG-31 or Su-24 or Su-34 or Tu-22 or MiG-29M or heck even Tu-160 (first satellite navigation system in the world, 5 years before American GPS) would on the other hand make my month!

Freetrack not working, no startup and no mapping options
tovivan replied to tovivan's topic in DCS: C-101 AvioJet
Thanks, geert, that worked! :) I could map the toe brakes to my throttle buttons, but they still don't work. As if the call functions/targets are broken (the same for auto-start). Thanks for the reply, hopefully the update will be here soon (and used by MP servers)! :) -
Mig 21 1st &2nd landing at small airstrip next to kutaisi
tovivan replied to Moe's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Nice job, Buzzles! I can't say for this video because I have no idea. :D But I spawn at Batumi, so whatever fuel you get with that option, and then usually travel to this runway with subsonic speed. You could try to get your fuel down to under 1 ton by afterburning for some part of the flight, the less fuel you have at touch-down the better. Just remember that the MiG-21 drinks like a Bacchus reveler. ;-) -
I use Freetrack and it works excellently in every other DCS module, but for some reason it refuses to work in this module. Everyone who's ever used TrackIR or Freetrack knows how essential it is for good flying. Second issue is that for me the engine auto startup doesn't work. I left it at default mapping of Rshift+Home, but no matter how many times I press it, there is no response. The keys are detected by the game, so it's not a keyboard issue. Third issue are missing mapping options for joysticks, just two examples being wheelbrakes and trim. Since I can't startup and fly I can't check for bugs reported by other players.
