  1. Was cleaning out the attic and I stumbled upon a dusty pair of AKG K240DF. I inquired with my dad and he said they were his old pair and that the left ear didn't work. I opened up the connector, re-soldered a wire and boom they work! However, I need an amp. That much I know, but I have zero knowledge on high quality audio and what kind to get. The headphones 600 Ohm. Ideally I don't want to spent too much but I don't even know what too much is considered in the audiophile world. $100? Help!! :helpsmilie:
  2. Sounds awesome, will place an order once I scrounge up the money. Based on that thread you linked I need to opt into the beta through messaging you, Andre?
  3. Been looking at this for awhile, always thought it would be cool to have, but not essential. Then I happened to try the"Buttocks vibration" feature in my friend's massage chair (why exactly is that a feature?!?!) and I could imagine the GAU-8 rumbling beneath my seat. It was then I knew I needed this jetseat in my life. I'm wondering however about Support for Dirt Rally. I've seen some reference on this thread and one other forum on google about it, but I'd like to hear some official word on whether Dirt Rally is supported. If it is I'll be sure to buy one SOON!
  4. Having too much fun with the new trackir external camera, and my new Mirage!!
  5. I'm looking into a dust cover for my warthog since a sock is pretty odd looking (even if it is effective) I found this website and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them? http://hotas-cover.jimdo.com/ They look to be quite good quality, and the option to have my callsign embroidered on is nice as well. I also found some reference to covers on Aliexpress here on the forums, but they are sold out.
  6. I voted for the "Any approximation is fine as long as it isn't completely fabricated" Option, mainly because I feel any other option would have disqualified FC3 level aircraft, which are something I think DCS should do more of. The relative simplicity of them makes them great for newcomers to the sim, aswell as the lower price tag. Not to mention it allows for DCS to expand more quickly in more directions, which will attract more players. I know ED has said they don't plan to make any more FC3 level aircraft, but why? 100% realism, as much as we may crave it, is not always possible, and I'd rather see an FC3 level aircraft in DCS than not see it at all. It's 2 in the morning, why am I trying to write an essay? G'night gentlemen.
  7. I hope this isn't against the rules to post here, if so, Mods please remove NCIX posted their "Subscribe and Win" contest for the month, and this month you can win a Warthog! I already have one, But I figured I'd post it here, be really cool if someone on the forums won it! http://www.ncix.com/newsletters/
  8. Sounds super awesome. Now, it's August. When can we get our hands on them? :) :joystick:
  9. The warthog is generally considered a bad option for Helicopters, due to it's stiff spring and hard center detent. Been flying the huey more lately and while it's tolerable, it's certainly not ideal. How will your bolt on gimbal affect this? Better? Worse? More or less the same?
  10. So I have 2.0 installed and added to Steam as a non steam game. all modules from steam activated themselves automagically (Thanks ED!). I have yet to buy Nevada so I'll have to test them later (Will do later tonight). I figure I can put in my control mappings via the "Load profile" option, so I'm not too worried about that, Logbooks I honestly don't care much about, and other settings I'll just go through again, that's not too hard. JSGME I will also screw with later. So Far my transition is going smooth.
  11. So I'm looking into switching over to non-steam DCS. I had a few questions and was hoping someone could help me out. 1. Can I transfer over all my settings, control mappings and pilot logbooks to the new DCS? I'd hate to have to go through all that stuff again. 2. Since I already have the dcs files downloaded from steam, can I transfer those files to avoid the lengthy download again? 3. How will this affect the JSGME mod loader? 4. Can I add DCS to Steam as a non-Steam game to get the overlay and screenshot function back? Looking forward to finally exploring Nevada and the Mirage, and the newly released F-5! :pilotfly: Thanks for your help! EDIT: Alternatively, I'm considering buying Nevada and using 2.0 Non Steam, then fully switching over when the 2.5 merge occurs. Would this be a good approach?
  12. The Avengers had 2 Thrustmaster Cougars in those Vtols, and the F-35 that shot at Hulk had a warthog in it. If I remember I'll get some screenshots later.
  13. Wow. I would never have thought a house fire could do that to metal. Quite a scary thought. Everyone alright? Seems like you've already decided on another warthog, I'm also looking forward to hegykc's bolt on gimbal. Hopefully that ends up being as awesome as it looks.
  14. Very cool looking displays! Added to bucket list ;)
  15. I had heard the issue was related to FFB. I had my Logitech DFGT (A force feedback racing wheel) plugged into my computer while playing DCS, Unplugging it solved my issues. Hope that helps someone!
  16. Would this "Bolt on gimbal" Solve the warthog's stickion issues? If so Sign me up!!!!! Also very interested to see what becomes of your awesome chair mount render you showed awhile ago. Would compliment my simpit (desk) very well! Good luck to you hegykc!
  17. Gonna revive this thread since I just finished all my books and was looking for more stuff to read :) Anything by Dan Hampton is a good read, especially Lords of the Sky and The Hunter Killers, TONS of Awesome information in those two! I also just finished Robert Mason's Chickenhawk, Excellent read, looking for more Vietnam stuff if anyone can recommend it! I used to not read much, because I couldn't be bothered to carry around a book. Nowadays I can carry an entire library on my phone. Great times we live in! Good reading everyone!
  18. Can't speak for the scroll wheel, but to use the slider on my warthog throttle you must use the Zoom view mapping under Axis commands. Works in-sim, without any macros. Hope that made sense!
  19. When you try to DCS but accidentally Dirt Rally
  20. Can't believe no one else said this... Although we really need an F-16
  21. I was thinking along the lines of future preflights not being quite as Interesting and fun as the first time, learning all the little things and getting a closer look at some things that you can't do in a flight sim. I realize the importance of properly inspecting a plane before flight. I really hope I can get my pilots license sooner rather than later. As long as my financial situation allows it I will do my best! Definitely caught the flying bug :joystick: Also one thing I forgot to mention, those who find the CH pro pedals too narrow, are in for a nasty surprise if they ever sit down in a Cessna 172! verrrry close together to make room for the dual controls, but I found it to be a non-issue.
  22. So today was the day! I got to fly a Cessna 172 with an instructor on an introductory flight. First thing I did upon getting there was a short 1 on 1 lecture with my instructor. very basic stuff, anyone with experience in a flight sim will know it as common sense. I told my instructor about my flight sim experience so we didn't waste much time with the basics. Off to the plane we went! Here I got to do some stuff that no flight sim (That I know of) will let you do, preflight! Walking around the plane inspecting everything was a cool experience (though I'm sure becomes routine and even boring when you have to do it before every flight). Very cool! My Instructor taxi'ed us out and took off, and handed the controls over to me once we gained some altitude. My first task was to put her in, and maintain level flight. Once I'd figured that out, (controlling a plane is much different when you're actually moving, as opposed to sitting behind a desk!) We did simple climbs, dives, and gentle turns, which may seem boring, but the sensation of being in control of a real plane, and feeling real G forces was just too awesome compared to any supersonic jet in DCS! After flying around the area for a little while, I put her back on course to the runway, and my instructor took control for Final and landing. Yeah, I probably coulda landed it if he's let me :smartass: :pilotfly: I spent 40 minutes in the air, which felt like such a short time compared to 40 minutes at work! :music_whistling: As much as I'd love to praise DCS for its authentic flight physics and experience, No matter how realistic a sim can get, nothing can make up for the sensation of actually flying. Feeling the Gs as you turn, feeling the bumps and drops as the wind buffets your plane around, it simply can't be replicated while sitting in a chair in front of a monitor. Actually flying a real plane through a real, dynamic atmosphere is something totally different. As for flight characteristics themselves, there really isn't anything comparable to a Cessna in DCS, though I have faith that ED and third parties have done an excellent job recreating flight in the most realistic way possible! I had an absolute blast today, although flying is definitely not a cheap hobby to get into. whether or not I continue with my flight training will be decided later, to anyone who can afford it, I highly recommend going for at least 1 flight! So that was my experience of flight. writing essays is definitely not my strong suit, but in my short little passage here, I hope I gave you guys an idea of the awesome day that I had today.
  23. Alright, lets not get into an argument over my life Choices guys. Thanks for the advice everyone, and thanks Beamscanner for the kind words. Lets give this thread back over the people who deserve it, the men and women who have (and currently are) serving their Countries.
  24. Planning on Enlisting US Air Force this summer. That count? :D
  25. Try making sure the small hex head screws between the two throttles are all the way screwed in. If they aren't, the top of the screw may hit the throttle and cause it to rub.
