Open Source Joystick FFB / DIY FFB Joystick
aeliusg replied to Berniyh's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I do have a question about the FFB2's that I haven't yet found the answer to: can you use a silver trigger version with the red trigger version on one of these builds? -
MFG Crosswind - Review

Yeah, sorry, we were just talking offhand since Milan is supposed to be debuting his own jet-style pedal plates. Thread for Baur's is here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=173100. He is actually active on this forum as well. -

Ah, thanks for the contact details. I'll have to learn some Russian. :book: I found the thread here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=173100 I do prefer the modern style pedals as well. -
MFG Crosswind - Review

How do I get my hands, er, feet, on one of Baur's contraptions? Not another European exclusive, I hope? -
Thanks, Andre. I do have a question: can you use the JetSeat in sound mode with unsupported games/applications the same way as with a Buttkicker? How are the results with this? I am trying to find an all-in-one solution since both are near the same price point. Edit: I see in the FAQ on your site that this is possible with pass-through. I can also use a splitter instead at the audio source, right? Or does the JetSeat detect connection on the female audio jack to enable sound mode?

Does anyone have a recommendation on which of a Buttkicker or the JetSeat is the better option?

Why aren't there today any real good joysticks?
aeliusg replied to FlightControl's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The operative term here is feedback. The motors in the joystick (or wheel) provide yet more information that is missing to the player from the "real" dynamical system that the simulation represents. As such you would want to smooth it out by lowering the force setting to prevent 'clipping' of the response curve due to limited motor torque and remove extraneous effects like the stick shake (or road effects on wheels). Of course, 'aliens' in either type of simulation function perfectly well without this feedback, but arguably that is more game-y in aspect than because FFB is a hindrance. -

Big thread for all of a week's posting. If OP is still reading this, the G940 can be as good as the FFB2 if you adjust the force settings to a proper range. I have a G940 and the FFB2 sitting around. Adjust the force feedback setting in the driver so that the G940 feels about as strong as the FFB2, and the two are quite comparable. I also modded the bearings on the G940, but that was a long while ago, and it was before I figured to lower the motor strength. Plastic joysticks are not meant to be used with such force as is default with the G940. FYI, the FFB2 also has a grip sensor as well. This is meant to prolong the life of the motor mechanisms and circuitry - one can imagine someone who does not take care of their toys very well and the impact such individuals would have on their bottom line with warranty costs. -
I don't think ED has integrated the Oculus Audio SDK yet. It sounded like usual in-game sound. This is true, but even most game engines use more than point sources for their audio. More detailed HRTFs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Head-related_transfer_function) create more convincing audio environments.

Warthog throttle or Trackir 5?
aeliusg replied to Mtnbiker1998's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
TrackIR is nice, but depending on where you're getting the Warthog throttle from, I might go with that instead if I were you, especially if it's for a good price since they don't sell these retail. Who knows when you'll be able to get your hands on one next. You can always pick up a TIR5 on Amazon when you have some extra cash. -
4K is most definitely a no-go, though with all this added time hopefully we'll see improvements in other areas.
-
There is no such button in DCS, however, it exists in the TrackIR software itself.

G940 FFB - trimming with modified output curve
aeliusg replied to tolgamat's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
They would have to write some new code into the FFB routine to decouple it from the input curve. In the meantime you could try simFFB which should retrim your stick in position when you press the button. No guarantees it'll work, haven't used it in a while. Use the 64 bit version. simFFB_64.zip simFFB_32.zip simFFB_source.zip -
The reason you are getting such low usage is because DCS is limited by the clock speed of a single core. Don't expect performance to scale linearly if at all with the addition of further cores. With such a prodigious rendering scheme, you will be limited by DCS's outdated engine's ability to push geometry and such to your GPUs through that single thread bottleneck even more than the GPU's ability to render such a scene. AFAIK DCS has no multiple PC rendering capability a la FSX or Prepar3d.

OK, I kind of figured. I get the picture, though. Good luck with your other endeavors.

What was that other idea of yours, if you don't mind me asking?

Looking for a quality yoke
aeliusg replied to CookPassBabtridge's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
http://irisdynamics.com/product/control-loading-flight-simulator-control-yoke/ This was around $800 US if you got in early on Kickstarter, but now it's $1500. Aside from that you have some stuff that is around the same price but not worth as much. -
Even if you're not focusing directly on the side of the screen, you get more situational awareness with a wider FOV than with more pixels IMO. It's the difference between having tunnel vision and peripheral vision.
-
Wider FOV is going to improve your experience a lot more than higher resolution at that size. Pixel pitch should be fine even if DPI is a bit low. FOV vs. pixel pitch, that's the trade-off for you at that price point.

Help! Thrustmaster Warthog firmware update fail
aeliusg replied to apoll's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Make sure it isn't plugged into a USB 3.0 port, and try everything again. -
No, it's not. I know you have a smaller build, so it's not feasible, but just don't expect to "max" things out.
-
It's been confirmed that the Vizio P does 1080p at 120 hz with very low input lag. You might want to ask Kuky about how well the Panasonic plays with that. Your GTX 770 will be able to handle 4K at 30 fps for now, but you'll want to upgrade if you want 4K at 60 fps with higher settings when EDGE comes out.
-
Hey Chic, it all depends on how much you're willing to spend. If you want 4K max settings at 60 fps and above (thinking about the new engine, too) you're going to want to upgrade your graphics card anyway. Most TVs don't have DisplayPort, apart from the Panasonic 4K TVs, so you'll need some GTX 970's or 980's anyway if you want HDMI 2.0. I'm assuming you want a big 4K TV instead of a smaller 4K monitor. I'd get a couple of GTX 970's, which is the best bang for your buck, if your motherboard can do SLi. You've got a few options with HDMI 2.0 4K TVs - the cheapest option being the Vizio P series TVs, and more expensive being LG, Samsung, Panasonic, and other ones. Like I said, it's all up to how much you're willing to spend. The Vizio P TVs only have 4:2:0 color at 60 hz, the Samsung one's are supposed to do full color but they aren't working right now, the LG TVs apparently do full color, and the Panasonic TVs aren't available yet (in the US). If you're into home theater, too, you could upgrade your setup and the TV that you watch at once by getting a 4K OLED TV when it arrives this year.

It sounds contradictory, but you have to turn on "TrackIR aiming" for mouse aim to work.
