  1. He likely means Oculus Rift.
  2. The Rift uses the same solution as the TrackIR. 6 DOF given by tracking a set pattern of discrete points in space, in its case supplemented with an onboard IMU. It also has a camera that you have to place in a proper position at a proper distance for optimal usage. It's really not that revolutionary or different in terms of head tracking.
  3. You guys are behind the game and ahead of the curve here. TrackIR is about as fast, accurate, and as low-latency as anything else out there. IMUs can't touch it in accuracy, and high-res stereoscopic camera arrays still can't beat it in simplicity and speed. Open-source trackers don't have the efficiency you get with onboard processing, and I won't talk about NaturalPoint's business practices. There's a reason why Oculus had to go to using what is basically TrackIR on steroids for 6 DOF. Only thing better would be some kind of active lidar, but why do all that when you can detect a couple of LEDs? Multi-purpose sensor suites like the Kinect, Leap Motion, etc. will likely be the solution going forward, but we're not there yet.
  4. I wouldn't bother RMAing it. It's no use. Go straight for an extension. It'll make the stiction moot.
  5. The advantage in 4K is that pixel size at close range is fairly imperceptible. The 1080p OLED's I've seen from LG still have rather large looking pixels. From usual TV viewing distance (a good 6 ft minimum for the 55" LG's, I'd say), it isn't an issue, but if you have it on your desk, it will be. At that distance you lose out on the screen FOV that you can get with a large display, however. I wish we could fast-forward technology to the point where we can get high-resolution thin-film OLED displays at the same cost as any cheap LCD monitor we have now, but there will probably be more exciting and even more expensive stuff to anticipate then. The cycle never ends. :helpsmilie: Edit: I should add that I'm talking about physical pixel size - also what that means for perception of the screen-door effect.
  6. Here's an example of what I was talking about: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-lcd-flat-panel-displays/1689258-official-2014-vizio-p-series-owner-s-thread-81.html Some of the color data is lost, so this is what you see with small details, like with small text. Not great for the desktop, but it won't affect image quality in DCS or movies all that much.
  7. The new GTX 980/970 have HDMI 2.0, and most mainstream 4K TVs have the inputs as well. Trouble is a lot of them aren't doing proper full color at 4K at 60 hz.
  8. Bad news about the Vizio, though, it doesn't look like it does full color in 4K at 60 hz. If you don't know what that means look up 4:4:4 vs 4:2:2 chroma. On the desktop this will be noticeable compared to a regular PC monitor. If you can accept that downgrade in image quality, it is a great low-input lag display.
  9. What is so rubbish about it? It provides all of the basic functionality up front with advanced scripting if necessary. I get people would rather be lazy bastards in their off time than figure anything out, but it's disingenuous for the reviewer to say that the software is the weak part of the package.
  10. Excellent photography, but his criticism of TARGET is way off-base. People like that should stick with Saitek or Logitech.
  11. Try toggling num-lock if the Saitek Profiler won't recognize keypad 5.
  12. Here's the other thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=130809&highlight=trackir&page=2 My TrackIR centers fine, I still think it's a key interfering with TrackIR's somewhere.
  13. Another guy was having this problem. Turns out another program was interfering. Make sure you don't have any other programs with the same hotkeys. Check to see if you have the key set to trap and/or toggle, too.
  14. Danger? I doubt it. I think it will make the center even clunkier though.
  15. This is the latest on the HDMI 2.0 issue: It's included, at least by MSI. 4k60 with the Vizio still hasn't been done yet AFAIK, there are some issues. Also 4:4:4 chroma full RGB hasn't been confirmed either on any HDMI 2.0 display that I know of. It'll probably take a couple of weeks to sort all of this out. :megalol:
  16. OK, now some manufacturers might not be including HDMI 2.0 support:https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/777174/geforce-900-series/hdmi1-4-on-gtx-980-cards/ I would hold off until all of this new release stuff is sorted out.
  17. 3D works with 3 monitors only, from what it looks like. The 4th can still be an extended desktop.
  18. Well, actually I meant the trap checkbox, not make the profile exclusive, try that if you haven't. Also make sure it's not on toggle or something. I'm waiting for my new video cards, so I can't get into DCS and test it out ATM. Also see if you can bind the center button to a joystick or mouse button. And make sure you don't have Teamspeak on.
  19. MiG-21 comes recommended then. Have fun, mate. :pilotfly:
  20. Coming soon. What they mean by the first statement is you can switch to any of the positions.
  21. Well you should have a twist rudder. Maybe put some money away for peripherals in addition to modules.
  22. I don't know about the F-15C campaign, but for the A-10C campaign you can edit your logbook file in Saved Games\DCS\MissionEditor\ and set the "stage" number to whatever mission it is you were on. They'll probably have to patch the FC3 campaigns.
  23. I can recommend the Huey, it is definitely different from the Black Shark which is a floating tank. The Huey is more of the technical vehicle of the skies, and I find it to be very enjoyable to fly. It is purely a helicopter in terms of how it handles. For it, and for any other module, I would suggest a full rudder pedal, stick and throttle setup.
  24. Try making the center TrackIR binding exclusive, or making it unexclusive. It's the checkbox next to the key.
  25. Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input But you may as well back up the whole Saved Games\DCS\ folder
