PC Pilot November - Hawk/MiG-21/Dora & Sabre Review
ruddy122 replied to Ells228's topic in Community News
Hi Guys, I read the article and I was really impressed. I love the MiG-21, but the Hawk has peaked my interest as a definite to add to my Virtual Hangar. Hope it is as immersive as LN's MiG-21 and maybe in the future we can see it actually trap on CVN-70 as the T-45 Late 2014 and Early 2015 will be an exciting time in the DCS World Cheers, Lucky -
Thanks for the mental conversion to meters. Is there a similar conversion for NM to KM or is multiplying NM * 2 the best estimate Thanks
-
The kneeboarding is not cheating and is actually recommended for Dead Reckoning Navigation see pages 124-125 in the manual I've been building the flight logs manually to help in navigating the MiG21 I'll try to post some examples in this thread later
-
That I'm not sure I think it depends if you use the A-50 or the E-3 for the AWACS mission
-
Quick update the conversions are right but I did the math backwards 1 NM = 1.852 KM So the quick conversion is multiply the distance by 2 for a rough approximation of distance in Km and divide the altitude in feet by three to get approximate altitude in meters Sorry for the mix up Cheers
-
The American AWACS gives your BRA and Picture Calls in NM and FT The MiG-21 used in the MiG-21 Campaign is associated with USA hence the Dodge Call Sign. Unfortunately it means you need to convert to KM and Meters to set up the radar and fly to intercept. Conversions are as follows 1 KM = 0.54 NM 1 Meter = 3.28 ft So my quick mental math conversion is to take the US AWACS distance call and divide it in half to get approximate range in KM and divide AWACS altitude call by 3 to get approximate height in meters Hope this helps

Hi Everyone, I got two questions on the Titans Rage Mission (MiG21_EN_C_4N.miz). In the mission profile section, the brief says we need to arrive at Waypoint 2 by NLT 1913 is that 08:19:13 (19 min 13 sec after mission start)? Second, Is there a winnable outcome in this mission? I tried 5 times pushing to waypoint 2 resulting in crashing in spectacular flames after being destroyed by R-77s, AIM-120s, and add insult to injury an AA-7, and an R-3S shot :smilewink: If I avoid the fighters and hide in the Hawk or Patriot Ring, I knock out some of the attack jets but lose the mission. Any words of advice is most welcome Awesome module

Check out these forum threads which will help http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=131041 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=129245&page=5 Bottom Line is that the line is the top of the arrow and the circle is the tail. RSBN is similar to a VOR/DME since the MiG-21 Nav system provides Azimuth and DME Hope this helps Cheers

If you want to fly right away Game Mode, but the module is so much more rewarding when flying in full Sim Mode but you do need to do a lot of ground study but definitely worth it!!

Here's the Trackfile file of the mission MIG21-EN-C-2U.miz which you can convert to Trackview once you run the replay. Got a mission success by just following the route Let me know if this helps. :pilotfly: BIS02-Fulcrum.trk

I got blown out of the sky, and I modified the mission with a MiG-29 to figure what's going on. For the Mountain Hideout mission, the key is to fly the waypoints; particular waypoints 3-6 with your wingman intact and without getting jumped by the enemy MiG-21 BIS, the S300 Missiles, and the SA-13 threat. If you try to dogfight you will either be shot down by the SAMs or get shot down by the 4 MiG-21's coming at you. The key to this mission is to fly the black line exactly and on timing, which becomes a real challenge in DR Navigation I'll post a Tacview of my flight later to show what I did and a flight log of my DR legs. Hope this helps.

Will there be a sneak preview of the Skin's that will be available? Hopefully the Bunny Fighter can be one of them, it is one of my favorites :D Hope you can release them soon, the Bis is so much fun to fly, I kind of feel disappointed when I fly my trusty MiG-29 because it feels I've taken a step back. Hopefully Eagle Dynamics can upgrade some of their FC3 fleet to the Bis standard or I'll just have to wait til Typhoon, Mirage 2K or the Hornet comes out. Again great module:thumbup: Cheers

75-80% is about right for approach in the MiG-21. While looking around the cockpit I saw that the throttle has 4 labels pertaining to the approximate throttle position. In the English Cockpit version the second to last setting says "LND" in English (not sure what it says in Cyrillic Lettering) and the approximate throttle position is around 80% Bottom line like the previous poster said before, 360-380 Kmh on final is OK, the Chute will stop you (unless you cut the chute early) in plenty of runway. The key is a proper flare attitude and wings level with minimal sink rate. Cheers

Take-offs are too rough and feel like taking off in a gravel pit
ruddy122 replied to stray cat's topic in Flight Dynamics
I agree with Tetra, You will shake on landing due to the suspension but you need to keep the power in on the flare or reduce it just a bit, you will notice a sink very rapidly and has led me to many a smoking hole in the runway scenarios. I'm still in the process of trying to figure out a good landing attitude picture so I can make consistent landings but I found a good visual reference which may help. What works for me is to put the top of the assembly where the scale needle is at or just below the horizon on the flare and hold it. Once you got the bird on the ground reduce to idle and pop the chute and you'll be fine. Hope this helps -
Buzzles, Thanks for the forum link. I'll have to remember circle are the feathers of the arrow, i.e. tail Operator error on my part, thanks for the info Cheers
-
Actually it's the other way around the circle is the top of the needle pointing at the station. Had to look at the FC3(pg 51) manual and the MiG21 (pg102) manual to make sure Cheers

Hi, I just updated the DCS World Beta to 1.2.10.32275 and the RSBN needle was reversed while I was flying the MiG-21. The Top of the needle which is usually the one with the circle was now the bottom of the needle and now the bottom of the needle the straight line is the top. The NPP Course select seems to work fine and the ILS or Soviet ILS PRMG seems to be working fine. Just checking if anyone else had the same problem  Cheers

ruddy122 replied to stray cat's topic in Flight Dynamics
Actually I'm glad they will fix it in the future but I think right now it is kinda fun. Builds Character : ) As a technique, I wait till about 340-350 km/h before I start lifting the nose to 5 degrees and the oscillations are a little bit less. Hope this helps -
I've been using 360-380 km/h on final but instead of flaring and reducing to idle. I keep the same power setting in the flare until main wheel touch down. Once I get the airplane in a three point stance I then put the throttle idle and pop the chute. It makes the landing a little exciting but doable

LN, Thank you for an awesome module!!! I never had more fun than trying to figure out the MiG-21 with basic flight, and navigation Can't wait to graduate to Weapons Training Hope you have many more awesome modules in the future and congratulations on an awesome aircraft.
