It is kind of self defeating to tie flashlight power to the aircraft batter power :/ I need the flashlight to find the power switch lolooloo I'd like a red filter. It would ease eyestrain in VR at night.

A small request to help night vision (especially in VR). Can you do a flashlight that has either red, green or blue filters in addition to the white one? The user can cycle the color as he/she desires.

[Feature Request] VR Quality of Life - Night Operations
DerekSpeare replied to DerekSpeare's topic in Virtual Reality
The color of the font used for the FPS readout is a good color for night...I wonder if it's set in a LUA file somewhere in the bowels of DCS?? -
Hello friends: I would like to see some night-vision-friendly changes to the DCS menus and COMMS text that do not cause eyestrain when operating in night missions, "Nighttime Operations". Folks like night ops and fly them in both actual daylight and nighttime during their DCS flying sessions. A subdued color pallet suitable for night vision would be a quality of life feature I recommend. Areas I see for nighttime improvement: 1 - General DCS manu screens/dialog boxes should have a nighttime color scheme; 2 - Comms text and other text on the screen during flight should have a nighttime color scheme; 3 - the user should have the option to bind a button/key in his/her UI Layer binds to activate and deactivate the night pallet as they wish; 4 - If the particular aircraft being used has a flashlight, e.g. the F16C, then there should be at least a red lens in addition to the white color we have now, and the user can cycle the color by pressing the bound button/key to operate the flashlight. While it's really not my intention to overstate the need for such night-eye-friendly improvements to DCS in VR, understanding that ED has bigger matters requiring their development attention, it would be beneficial to have this feature "folded into the mix" with their other VR improvement development effort. Anyhow, that's it...gonna head off and do some night AAR practice in the F16 now :pilotfly: If you have other ideas to improve DCS at night in VR to ease the eye, post them up!

I installed SRS today and it's great! It works in VR like a champ!

I have my stick to a 15 curve and my throttle in a half-U curve. I talk about it in my video here: F8Uuh2FsUHA

It would be good to get an official word on the trim and rudder issues. Seems there are more than a few folks indicating issues/oddities/trouble. Like the OP, I feel the pitch trim is way too sensitive, but after doing some reading and learning that the F16 is a different plane due to the FLCS control, I consciously forced myself to stop using the trim and have not regretted it. Though, like I have said, it would really be instructive and guiding to know from the "officials" what the real deal is with the trim. I think it's an enigma now. It is something ED can help to clarify for us.

I'd like to know how McRuffin has the FLIR and external image on one screen? Does he "export" that out of DCS with a mod...there are some talented pilots here...wow!

How do manage the throttle during air refueling?
DerekSpeare replied to lee1hy's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
I use a curve on my throttle so that it's less responsive at lower settings. This means that it is "not as sensitive". Make the curve for your throttle look like this curve... -

Dunno if it is known or previously reported. Here's some flickering/shimmering dust over the Caucuses in VR with the Oculus Rift. It doesn't stop and just keeps going like that. Changing the visibility distance doesn't make any difference.

HSI Knobs only works with Mousewheel

This ^ It would be really nice if we could see the "M" button in night conditions. Does the real plane have a lighted one? -
A2A Refueling "trick" to make it easier - CAT1/3
DerekSpeare replied to DerekSpeare's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
I'm going to get some chicken bones soaked in jet fuel and keep them in a boodoo-hoodoo hex bag, too...anything to make A2ARF easier! Now that @Vampire mentions it, I do remember that CAT3 limits certain characteristics but not enough to have the effect I thought. -
Hi, I had the idea last night to put the jet into CAT3 to help make it easier (for me) to have better granular control for air-to-air refueling. While I know it's not SOP/NATOPS approved, I approved it for testing (for myself) and think that perhaps it makes a bit of a difference. And yes, I do know that enabling the refueling switch also tells the FLCS to make it easier to do. Maybe it's a placebo, but if it helps you to do this, great! :smartass: Post your results, too! My video of the test: :joystick::pilotfly:

It's my thought that since it appears that the rudder is still borked that CW landings are not going to be easy to accomplish.

Impact of Trees and Ground Clutter on Frame Rates
DerekSpeare replied to DerekSpeare's topic in Virtual Reality
I will do some live testing - thanks for the guidance, folks! -
I have my trees and ground clutter turned all the way down in the hope that it can save me a few frames from getting lost. I'm curious to know what real impact trees and ground clutter have on performance in VR. How much do those features mean in terms of VR frame rates?

Does it work in VR?

COMMS Help - Tuned correctly, no response
DerekSpeare replied to DerekSpeare's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Thank you, gents! I'm all set! It works properly and I have rebound the UHF/VHF transmit keys properly to get it to work... So that said, how do I contact ground crew when on the ground? Do I use the "" key or one of the UHF/VHF transmit keys? Does it matter for them? -
COMMS Help - Tuned correctly, no response

aha! That's the issue! I am using the "/" button...I'm gong to reconfigure it and report back (If I can find the correct binds) lolo -

@Sryan - that's not happening at all. Easy comms is unchecked.
