[CLOSED] Slanted side view when using TiR in latest 1.5.4. OB.

Same problem for all airplanes -
I think what you are experiencing is simply the track memory of the RWR that keeps displaying lost tracks for a few seconds to make sure you don't miss them.
-
Did you check if the game set the rudder axis to your throttle, it does that sometimes. So if you throttle up it will turn your rudder.
-
I don't think we actually have the P3, because that one had a smokeless-motor which the in-game AIM-9P obviously hasn't :) The sim probably models the Basic AIM-9P or P1.
-
The AIM-120, at least in-game, has no self destruct. Their battery lasts longer than the missile is ever going to fly. Older missiles, like the Super 530, have limited electric or hydraulic power. The R-27 series of missiles, for example, runs out of hydraulic fluid after 60 seconds and can't move the control surfaces anymore...

From everything that I read they never mentioned target RCS as a significant factor. Jammer/Signal ratio is maybe what you meant. The returns of a Tu-22 aren't "stronger" than the ones from a MiG-29 in that they have the same energy. You may get more returns from a Backfire but that will not effect burn-through range. And as the noise jammer only needs to be 50% the power of the radar he is jamming I'd guess it's very much possible to jam an AWG-9 at 10 miles with the power and cooling allocations you have in a Tu-22.
-
AMRAAMS are by no means less effective than ETs, if you think they are you are doing it wrong. I'm guessing you are shooting from too long range and your AMRAAM probably has about 300 knots to play with in end-game. If you shoot at say 7 miles however, it will be coming in at Mach 2+ leaving your opponent no time to react.
-
10-15 miles is not sure kill range. If you're at 30k+ feet you may shoot at 15 miles but below that, especially below 10k feet you wanna be shooting at <8 miles. And even that is easily defeated by someone that knows what he's doing... I'm not saying that's realistic, however it's still very much possible to dominate a flanker if you do it right. For the IR shots, either you see them coming or if not you presume that there is one. Once below 10 miles you can expect an ET shot depending on your engine state.

There is no way your not trolling right now...

Right, cus trackir and a hotas gives me the ability to see contacts on my radar that I otherwise wouldn't and gives me NCTR in every airplane and 100% accurate range on RWR contacts... What are you even talking about??
-
We'd have to know the power output of the Su-27 jammer and that of the AWG-9 so calculate the burn through. But since we don't have that we can only guess. Since the AWG-9 is the second most powerful radar employed on a fighter I'd guess ranges of 30-50 miles. HOJ will definitely decease the range, as the missile has no range and velocity information and thus can't calculate a perfect proportional navigation curse (or loft), it can however still fly on collision course using the jammer as a reference and zeroing the line of sight rate. Missiles in DCS don't do that for some reason so don't hold your breath on that.

I know what a datalink is, but if you are sending modulated signals with different modulation for each missile to provide range information you might as well code other information with it. So yes it is pretty close to a datalink... Also it's just a theory, I don't know how the AIM-54 gets range. But if you know better, please.
-
Okay, I get that. But this still doesn't explain how the AIM-54 gets range to target information. I'd guess some sort of frequency modulation as was stated in another post, but then how would the radar differentiate between multiple missiles if not with different channels or frequencys for each missile. Which is actually pretty close to a datalink again :)
-
I said going STT isn't practical not SARH but having read the thread you linked I can see what you meant. Yes, maybe that's how the AIM-54 guidance works but the question is to what extend we will get that simulated as such a guidance isn't yet in the Sim. And I also wonder if targeted planes will get a launch warning, because that would virtually eliminate BVR with the Tomcat...
-
Well, that's what I'm saying. I also don't see why they wouldn't use TWS and datalink (maybe they haven't had that back then?) because going STT on a target would make you loose every other target that you have been tracking or shooting on. So the radar would've to go back to search and reacquire the targets, it just doesn't seem practical.
-
Not running in a straight line but proportional navigation. The system averages the received updates to fly a intercept course to the target. And to be honest who knows if the Phoenix uses SARH for mid-course guidance it sounds very unpractical. Especially when engaging more than one target at once, you'd need an ESA radar to illuminate the targets with STT...
-
Yes that makes sense, let's hope for the best...:) Not always that easy when he is firing on you but thanks anyways

It's not a useless suggestion if it inhibits me to lock a bandit, which is something I should be able to do even if it overlaps with a jammer. Well that's exactly what I meant, then I'm sorry I used the wrong words in my original post. But why shouldn't I expect much? It killed me more than once, and It's such an easy thing to program I believe (especially if the flanker has it already)...
-
Would it be possible to remove the possibility of locking a jammer in TWS. First of all its very annoying trying to bug a target that is right on top of the jammer (No problem for the Flanker for some reason, it always locks the target not the jammer) but it is also unrealistic. AFAIK it's impossible to just go AOJ on an ECM target when in TWS straight away (maybe by bugging it twice but that i don't know). And since auto-designation is missing completely for the eagle anyways, and so there is no way to lock someone when he is at the same bearing as the jammer, it would only be fair to remove the possibility to do so. At least in TWS, RWS is another thing.
-
I'd have to agree on this as well, the Mirages flight model seems very dubious to me. Once you're at 200 knots IAS you can just pull the stick all the way back and turn 30°/sec horizontally without loosing one knot airspeed. It's laughable to say the least...
