There is a switch in front and under the throttle that shows the status of the ACS. When the cover is open and the switch is in the upper position then the ACS is disconnected. When the cover is closed the ACS is on. PS: The throttle has to be idle otherwise you won't see the switch since it's hidden below the grip.

Keep jammer on until I deactivate it again?
red_coreSix replied to domini99's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Depends on the range, from far away it's obviously easier because the SA-11s radar is getting weaker return thus less power is needed to break the lock. -

red_coreSix replied to domini99's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
The AN/ALQ-131/184 are so called deception jammers. Their purpose is to brake the lock of SAM sites or missiles. They work by employing techniques like ground bouncing, repeater jamming, Gate pull-off and cross-eye jamming. I won't explain those in detail but when succeeded the jammer stops emitting since it did its job. Try going up against an SA-10 site, you'll see that It doesn't stop jamming since it is unable to break the lock. But in DCS however jamming is not modeled correctly so your better off just taking some aa or bombs instead if the jammer. -
The blast damage is currently very badly modelled, however AFAIK they are looking into that. Regarding tanks and APCs, I know that they take more damage when being shot in the rear and sides rather then the front.

That makes sense, thanks.

Gotcha, but still the antenna beam is not shrinkable in any way isn't it?
-
Okay, please tell me how you could shrink the radar beam on an MSA antenna. I never got that. In an PESA or AESA platform you could but how would you do that for a mechanical antenna. In STT the radar generates range and velocity gates and blocks out everything else that doesn't match. But the radar beam is never shrinked or is it? Please explain.

Russian missiles - usage, bug, problems, advantages
red_coreSix replied to tovivan's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
SAHR are not guided by anything in that they guide themselves of the radar reflection from the target that the fighters radar paints. There is no second radar in the flanker. -
Russian missiles - usage, bug, problems, advantages
red_coreSix replied to tovivan's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
No, not really. I know that the Patriot has additional modules installed on its fire control radar that handle the data link to the missile but the Su-27 has only one radar. AFAIK the R-27ER has a 2-stage guidance with the first being corrections via radio and the second being SAHR. -
We have had this discussion about missile launch warnings before so let's not do that again. It depends like Svend pointed out on how the RWR is programmed, and we have no information about if the RWR of the F-15 can decode a m-link. But launch warning or not it should definitely give off an STT warning and personally that'd be enough for me since I don't use that mode really often.

Sorry, I must have gotten confused with the numbers there^^ I. 3. It's an iconic plane, set many standards. II. 5. To be honest there is no one really. Only thing where I could image that to be helpful would be at ranges exceeding 200km but you're not going to reach that far out anyways against a fighter sized target. II. 6. Oh, okay. In that case, nope, the flanker has nothing like that. Well actually kind of on the HDD (the MFD screen), but it's not the same and you have to look down to see it. II. 8. Well, the eagle is always going to see more emitters on the RWR and be able to identify them. Same with the radar, that is just how the two planes are. But that's the fun for me, to be able to defeat the enemy with an "inferior" plane. II.10. "busy for a moment" If I touch that switch with any trim applied I mostly nose-dive, get g-loced, enter a flat spin and my engine die. But I guess you could call that busy for a moment ;)

Hey, welcome to the community! I: 1. The best way is to practice flying. Eventually you'll get better the longer you do it ;P 2. At the beginning yes, later on it doesn't really matter. 3 Get what you enjoy^^ I'm really looking forward to the F-14 for example. II: 1. Yes, there is. In STT (that's you meant I guess) you have radar memory. That means if your radar loses track for whatever reason it will continue to "guess" the position of the target for another 4 seconds or so. That also means the m-link (the way your amraam is guided mid-course) will continue to be transmitted, that means you are effectively guiding your amraam for another 4 seconds (not AIM-7 and actually TWS should have radar memory as well but that's something else). 2. No, most of the times when using radar along with IRST during one of the WVR modes it will perform worse. 3. Tough one, I think +-75 left-right-up and 10 down (because of the nose). 4. I never set the expected distance but if you do it will decrease/increase the amount that the antenna is shifted up-downwards when selecting expected target altitude. I'm always flying with that on 10, it really doesn't matter. 5. Let me give you an example: If you set your expected target range to 50 and dial in +3 on the expected target altitude it will shift the antenna to a point 50km in front and 3000m above you. I hope you understand^^ 6. Yes, when locking a target in either EO or radar you'll get the DLZ (dynamic launch zone) on the left vertical line of the HUD. From top to bottom the blocks mean: Maximum launch range (hit only when conditions at launch stay the same), No escape zone (even if target turn 180 the missile will be able to catch it, minimum engagement zone (missiles fuse won’t arm). 7. I don't know^^ I never did that, I like to keep some fuel for my return to base ;P 8. No, they can come close but if you have two players with the same skill level the one in the eagle will always have better SA. That's because of the radar and the RWR mainly. 9. Depends, when there are a lot of fighters in the air you can take them with you. When only a few are airborne you'll make yourself and easy target because everyone can see you. 10. Lol, you don't depart when trying to to BFM. But sometimes I use as a last ditch defense against an incoming amraam. I hope that could help you :)

Minimum range for notching effect?
red_coreSix replied to Dirty Rotten Flieger's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Well, it's true that the MiG-21 has a pretty small radar cross section but against the F-15s radar you gotta be pretty much right on point with your notch otherwise he will see you. For multiplayer obviously, I don't know how notching is simulated against AI. AFAIK there is no minimum range for notching as I sometimes loose lock even when visually seeing the bandit. But the closer and faster you get the more accurate you need to notch. -
Yes it does. It's going to display every STT emitter for another 4 seconds or so to make sure you don't miss anything.

Mig-29S close combat mode radar selected status not showing
red_coreSix replied to Stuge's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
Well, the "not displaying radar status problem" is a side-effect of the older system modeling. That's probably going to be fixed when the new MiG-29 gets new systems (like functioning cockpit indicators). About the VS mode, I have noticed that too. Since you can also turn EO off and only search with radar I'd guess the computer trys to get the target in both the EO and the radar (which would take longer and be sometimes impossible i.e when target is in the notch) before initiating STT. But that's a wild guess to be honest. The IFF I think is a feature. Have you noticed that you're not getting the LA indication when selecting R-27ER in IFF mode? I think that's because the radar is actually only IFFing and not even in any kind of track mode. But again that's just what I'd guess :) -

It shows that it is possible for a missile to lock onto another fired missile which is what I intended to prove. -

Also happened in real life. In the Gulf war an Iraqi MiG-25PD had an engagement with an American RQ-1 Predator. The Predator spotted the foxbat, observed a missile launch and it returns fire with an AIM-92. Ended up with the stinger missing due to the R-40s exhaust and the MiG scoring the kill. -
SA-10 and SA-15 improved launch realism
red_coreSix replied to Northstar98's topic in DCS Core Wish List
When we're on it I would also love to see some improvements on the tracking/engagement logic done. Because as it is right now the SA-10 and Patriot will always use STT mode for tracking which in real life is only used for terminal guidance. Since both SA-10 and Patriot guide through TVM the target does not need to be illuminated in STT throughout the entire engagement. Depending on the maneuvers the target is doing you would ping it maybe ever second or so. Many RWRs wouldn't even notice that a missile is on its way and would just give off a scan warning. Only in terminal guidance STT would be used since accurate range and speed measurements are needed for a direct hit or close pass. Implementing this into DCS would make such SAM systems much more capable and overall realistic with DCS being a Simulator. -

Still not working Okay, I double checked everything. Completely deleted the Mods and Sounds folder, repaired the game reinstalled the mods and everything. Folder structure is 100% correct and also when activated the files show up in the folders but in game it's all stock. I'm really running out of ideas, everything is set up correct. -

Not working after new patch The RAE Mod is not working for me after the newest update (1.2.16 i believe). All the sounds have been replaced by the standard ones. I used JSGME and also repaired my game and reinstalled the mod. Didn't help. Does anyone else has this problem? Thx, red_coreSix -

After launching the DCS Multiplayer yesterday i realized that i couldn’t connect to any server or even log in. There are no online Servers showing and every time i try to login it says Wrong password and i need to restart the game. Also if i try to create a new account it says wrong serial number. I’m not the only one with this problem, a friend of mine got the same issues. I tried again today but still the same. Anyone who also got this or knows how to fix it?
