[Mi-8MTV2] "Vasilissa the Beautiful" HD Cockpit
DirtyFret replied to DirtyFret's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Wow, nice. Thank you. That GVRN panel looks much less cluttered than the one I (re)made. I'll probably update to look like that it in v1.1 of this . I am glad to see that you like it but how unfortunate that you encountered/found that somewhat serious issue. Could you please provide a screenshot of the item/issue in question, it would help a lot in starting to solve this issue. Does anyone/everyone else with 2.0 encounter this? -

Amazing collection AlphaOneSix. :) Id'love to get a photo of the GVRN panel and thanks for the tips , I actually pondered those same things when doing this, it seemed so cluttered. I used this Fig for the governor panel. I am entertaining the thought of creating a russian version of this or doing a completely new "factory fresh" HD version of the cockpit so any source material/photos is appreciated. Thanks  -

Great that you enjoy it Skull  Good find, I dont know how I have missed that. *facepalm. I took the time and gave it a little face lift and also tuned the texts and positioning to better match the TSMO-Mi-17 manual :D p.s. Now those switch bases hit my eye like gravel. I might have to redo them also for the v1.1 Packs updated on the 1st post. Here is a Hotfix for those who have downloaded the packs already GRAY BLUE Regards --Dirty -
[Mi-8MTV2] "Vasilissa the Beautiful" HD Cockpit
DirtyFret replied to DirtyFret's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
The textures are out, pls check 1st post. I want to thank Yuya6104 and EntropySG for testing this. Their keen eyes spotted several issues and errors that were fixed. No FPS drop was reported, 1.5.3 compatible, SP and MP compatible. Despite a good pretest and because there are tens of layers and hundreds of components per DDS file there still might be some lingering errors/typos. If you find issues and errors please post here or PM me. Also, if someone would give this a go in 2.02 and NTTR and share his/hers experience I'd be delighted and grateful. Enjoy responsibly. --Dirty -
[Mi-8MTV2] "Vasilissa the Beautiful" HD Cockpit
DirtyFret replied to DirtyFret's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Thanks you all for the kind words. I hope you will like it as much in-game. Just letting you know that I am fixing/troubleshooting some (minor) issues with the textures that the testers found and barring any suprise findings(major issue) we are on schedule to release soon. Thanks Devrim. Maybe we can work together on a Russian version of this. Thanks skull and I am humbled by your comparison. I personally feel that the maestro RICARDOs art and skill level are on a whole different (higher) level. His textures are so polished yet lively it is astonishing. -

I have sent the texture packs to two volunteers now (you know who are, thanks ) for testing. I am hoping to get this ready for release in one week or soon tm :smilewink: That is actually a very good and constructive point, thanks. I have added a Gallery2 and a few shots as attachment to the first post. New shots with both cockpit dome lights on, should be brighter and more clear now. I think the Steam screenshot function somehow darkens the screenshots as I don't think they look too dark in game. -
Hello all, I would like to present my HD retexturing of the gorgeous Mi-8 cockpit. This started as a hobby project around 6 months ago and has been evolving steadily as my skills in PS and AI increase. The new translation is based on the TM 1-1520-Mi-17-10 manual, although in some cases I used quite a bit of artistic freedom. Features: - HD texturing (4096x4096) - New english translation - Entirely redrawn HD gauges (lines + text) - Faux 3D effects - Faux glass effects on indicators - New alpha channels - Russian Blue, Dark Gray and Light Gray variants - New annunciator light effect - Windshield dirt and wiper effect - Dirt and scratches - New rivets , screws - Central panel texts without annoying "jagged edge"-effect - Gallery / Imgur - Gallery2 / Imgur To-Do Features (subject to change) - Rework the damaged glass textures (HD) - Rework the switch bases (HD) DONE - Rework the windshield DONE - Specular and Normal map implementation - ESBR-3P/A Control box translation DONE - PKV Sight renumbering DONE - Russian texts ( I need a russian guy with a PhotoShop for this) Known issues: - Central panel texts alpha channel (red light) not working (this is a side-effect of removing the jagged edges of the original texture) - Specular and Normal maps not working yet = textures look flat Disclaimer: I claim only the moral right to be acknowledged as the author/artist behind this modification and as such ask that no mirror download files would be created. No ownership of the original or these modified files is implied or stated. All stock images/files used were freeware or copyright free, however if you recognise such an image or part thereof I will do my best to remove it from this mod as quickly as possible. I'll try to keep working on this (slowly) but no guarantees are given. Credits: This work is based on Belsimteks and the original artists work who created the standard texture. Thank you for the great model and textures. I extend my gratitude to Uboats whose .edm extraction tool for the description.lua file was essential also. Also, thanks to Google for providing me with hundreds of free source files and a semiworking Russian-to-English helper. I want to thank also Yuya6104 and EntropySG for testing this. Their keen eyes spotted several issues and errors that were fixed before release.Lastly but not least Devrim and his original english translation helped me save at least 2 months of work with the annunciator lights and the corresponding dds file. Without his work it would have been incredibly slow to find which annunciator corresponds to which in the TM 1-1520-Mi-17-10 manual. GAU-8/A and MK108 Shell tweaking/modding
DirtyFret replied to DirtyFret's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Thanks for letting me know. Hmmm, if you running into problems Axelerators advice is solid. That's how I used to do it also. I just tested it and have actively being using this tweak with JSGME for a while now in 1.5.3 with no stability issues or Crash to Desktop issues. If you have any clues on what might be causing it please let me know. -
Caucasus Map Texture DLC by Starway
DirtyFret replied to Starway's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Although I tend to disagree I genuinely Thank you Vivoune for this post. You epitomized the way how one should express their opinions of other peoples hard work and in general also. Constructive and polite  Personally I have only limited experience in FSX but what I can gather is that if DCS far down the line comes to have an equally well thriving market, playerbase and variety of planes and other addons I cannot see the downside of it. FSX has a huge array of varying (paid and non paid) aircrafts, (paid and nonpaid) texture effects and other improvements , (paid and nonpaid) map enhancements and a lot lot more. Including a healthy live ATC network. FSX has also a user base of probably millions and it is still used even though the original developer has stopped supporting or developing it. I can only imagine and hope that in the far future we will be able to have an equally enthusiastic group of people as the VATSIM people working as a dedicated ground force, ATC or Air Command. Ground contingent could be a part of ground attack forces with JTAC , combined with some ATC or early warning radar system operators that communicate with a live Air Command detachment to keep birds and helos flying towards their right targets and so on. Not forgetting some combination of carrier ops in there. I think some communities are already doing this sort of action intermittently on some servers. All the while maintaining and giving the customer (almost) total freedom of installing and using either free or paid add ons. Even if only half of what I envision comes to fruition in only half decent style I'll still be a happy camper. :pilotfly: Just my 2cents. Good work Starway. Amazingly beautiful -
It's bad but goes down to barely noticable with "external-view-zoom-out-zoom-in" trick.
-
Yes I am, or at least think so. I have no other way to test but the FPS in the corner. Single card performance in low load enviroment : solid 60fps Single card performance in high load enviroment: 40-60fps SLI card performance : over 60 fps consistently. But as I said I haven't any thorough testing just played the game and occasionally looked at the fps counter. Is there a surefire way to know?

cockpit in English, except for Abris, EKRAN and Betty
DirtyFret replied to wolle's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Go to SETTINGS -> GAMEPLAY -> Avionics language -> English. That should do the trick. -

Sound mod - Megas GAU-8 and impact sounds
DirtyFret replied to Megagoth1702's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Yeah link please. This GAU-8 sound mod is absolutely terrifying and awesome. -
Yes the NTTR and A10 work together. The NTTR map requires DCS 2.0 to run and the A-10 module runs in all of the current available versions of DCS
-
This is already possible in the ME on the "Additional properties for aircraft" tab and the "PAYLOAD" tab. Just untick "Additional Armor" , "Exhaust IR suppressor" and "EXTERNAL HARDPOINTS".

My settings that work in 1.5.3. The key differentiating factors for me between useless and working were using AFR2 in NVI and NVCP in addition to keeping VSYNC off. Nvidia inspector settings: NVidia control panel My in-game graphics settings: In-game screenshot + SLI bars . FPS ~60-70fps at 4K (UHD) My version of DCS is 1.5.3 (Steam) , GPU GTX 980 Ti's x2 SLI, Alas the cloud flickering persists with these settings but hopefully someone finds these useful.
-
Got my GTX 980 Ti's working in SLI in 1.53 using this guide SLI green bars positive, cloud flickering still however exists. *edit: Although admittedly the green bars could be a bit higher , now the seem to be at around 50% so not a perfect utilization of the SLI.

I dont know about the RL effectiveness of the gun / bombs but your Tank Busting 101 mission I can highly recommend. It helped me tremendously.

Dear ED, what about tinted glass cockpits?
DirtyFret replied to toby23's topic in DCS Core Wish List
welcome back . Your mod is a classic. Thanks, will let you know if I stumble on any issues -
In the newest version 1.5.3 this problem still persists. Has the Mi-8 cockpit .edm model possibly been exported from 3DS without specular functionality? The materials that the panels2, pnlbase, dev1 and dash1 DDS -files correspond to show no specular functionality that I can activate. Spoiler contains the description.lua I use.

Is this module worth a look?
DirtyFret replied to TheJay15's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Mi-8 is definitely a beauty in many ways. This methodology worked for me perfectly. Developing muscle memory with which you control the cyclic, rudder and collective simultaneously comes with flying hours ( I am still a bit on the rough side with this ) -
Thanks, very nice.
