ILS Flight Director Influenced by Course Selector
DirtyFret replied to Joni's topic in Bugs and Problems
Good stuff. We are back on track then. Unfortunately I have yet to find any answer to that on the (real) manual. It is clear that in DCS it does but the question is whether it does in the real plane. -
ILS Flight Director Influenced by Course Selector
DirtyFret replied to Joni's topic in Bugs and Problems
Politely steering the thread back on topic regarding the ILS steering column thingies ;) The A10C (real) manual TO 1A-10C-1 from april 2012 states on page 1-92 (126) under topic "ILS Operation" to "c. Set HSI course selector window (course arrow) to published inbound localizer course." and on page FP21 (Figure FO-7, Sheets 3 & 5) describes that ADI bank steering bar when ILS is selected in NMSP: "Indicates position of localizer in relation to A/C. If FM is lit see FM column." whereas the HSI Course deviation Indicator when ILS is selected in NMSP indicates: "Indicates localizer deviation from selected course" So isn't this how it is modeled in DCS? P.S. On page 1-92 the manual also mentions that on back course localizer approaches the ADI glideslope bars should be stowed because they will show erronous information P.P.S I am not going link screencaps of the actual manual because last time someone did the posts mysteriously got deleted, google is everybodys friend:music_whistling: -
Nice, off-topic a bit but I wish you have some checklists and procedures memorized and stored for the upcoming LN F14A/B then. Some similar checklists to this A-10C one would be nice then. ;)

ILS Flight Director Influenced by Course Selector
DirtyFret replied to Joni's topic in Bugs and Problems
Good post boomerang, there is nothing quite like empirical evidence/research when it comes to problem solving. My questions and thoughts: Did you happen to try the same for RWY 13 which oddly has the same ILS freq? Why is Vaziani plate showing the same ILS freq for both RWY13 AND 31? - the other two airfields that have dual runway ILS (Mineralnye-Vody and Tbilisi-Lochini) have different freq's for each side. I would postulate that if indeed the ILS aprroach for rwy 13 works at that freq perhaps there is a typo on the Vaziani plate duplicating the ILS freq of rwy 13 to 31 where in reality (simulationality?:D) there is no ILS for rwy 31. This would explain why some ppl remember that it works fine and some that it doesn't. Confirmed? Plausible? Myth? -
I apologize if this is obvious but what level turn tutorial are you refering to? Perhaps the Mapleflag training missions? Some else tutorial/mission?

ILS Flight Director Influenced by Course Selector
DirtyFret replied to Joni's topic in Bugs and Problems
I am quite confused with this system and the (claimed) lack of realism in its modelling. Mostly because if I remember correctly this simulation was commisioned/used by US air national guard for training. If indeed this is/was the case I personally find it very hard to believe (but not impossible) that this basic system is modelled totally wrong. So unless a real A-10 pilot/engineer/crew chief or someone from ED shares his/hers knoweledge of it being wrong I'll keep believing the modelling is correct. Just my personal non-professional opinion. No-mad pls? Regarding the FD or lack thereof ; the (real) A10-A manual mentions of a FDC so it would be logical that the newer C-variant would have one also. -
Heavy and military transport aviation to the DCS.
DirtyFret replied to Siberian's topic in DCS Wishlist
Ofc yes. Mostly I would be interested in the helicopters as I dont see a pleasing role for the fixed wing long range transport/logistics planes in such a relatively small map we have. -
me too:thumbup: This can be very confusing for non-english speaking non aviation pro's like me. That manual page for example says "...FDC also obtains heading and course error signals from the HSI..." further below it states "ILS localizer deviation signals are supplied to the CDI on the HSI...". This is where it gets superconfusing for me - isn't the CDI displaying course deviation(=course error?) in relation to the course set and the desired course set is set by the course knob as stated by the DCS A10-C manual? But then again I do believe I am are straying a bit off-topic so I'll just keep my fingers crossed OP has been able to solve this.:pilotfly:
-
My apologies, my previous reply might have come across as antagonistic. Not my intention. My intention was to help solve OP's issue and given the information on that A10-A manual page, the info he/she gave us and the explanation from Olgred (the ED ILS coder guy) I believe that it would be worthwhile for the OP to test if the course setting being wrong might be the issue for him in DCS.

I bet that the issue is because Tbilisi-Lochini (UGTB) has no runway 31 but a runway 30L with a heading 301. I assume you've set the heading knob to 310 and that might be the confusing factor. I would politely suggest that you try setting it to 301.

Yes. For me this works perfectly with .jpg and.png files although I do remember having problems with .jpg files that had their extension capitalized (JPG vs jpg). -

Small (10c) extension combined with sanding and greasing of the ball joint made it perfect for me The sanding and greasing tutorial I used: -
No I didn't. The " ...man"suffix gave you away but in addition to you I was also referring to other people on this thread who also have put in incredible amounts of time and dedication to their own respective pit builds but alas have not given any hints on their gender status. I'll quietly move back now to the softcore simming side of this Forum.:pilotfly:

At least on my part because a lot of words I don't know are used in this thread e.g. actuator, CNC, engravers , sensors etc. :music_whistling: If it is possible , I'd love to see some of your build and part pics collected for example on the first page/post. Now finding them among the 100 pages of this thread is quite hard. As a new guy I am totally amazed with the attention, dedication and amount of time you guys/girls put in these pits build.

Epic - this gave me goosebumps. I love the 1:10 catapult launch. The pilot is pumping his fist in the air: "I GOT THE BEST JOB IN THE WORLD -YEAAAH". Or maybe its just me and his doing a wobbly salute.

Poll: which guide would you be interested in next?
DirtyFret replied to Charly_Owl's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Your guides are superb. I feel they present the information very clearly and in a concise manner. Your guides are sort of in-between a quick-start and a full flight manual for a module in my experience. My sentiments exactly. +1 Please do the Mi-8 next. -
How does one become a real a-10 pilot?
DirtyFret replied to DirtyFret's topic in Military and Aviation
Thanks Sabre. Very informative link. -
You're a hero of the DCS community Chuck . Thank you for this guide.

Hey all, I was wondering how does one become a real a-10c pilot. I am not interested nor am I eligible to become one but I'd like to know some details out of curiosity. I know some general stuff about USAF and their recruitment but I would like to know if possible what steps people take to be able to fly the A-10. If possible it would be nice to know the different steps and actual phases they have to go through all the way from being a civilian up to combat mission readiness. Some specific questions that I have in mind: - Does the different path(POC-ERP, OTS, ASCP , SOAR etc...) one takes to become a officer affect the plane he/she will fly? - Do all officers in the USAF become pilots / or are there "ground officers" also? If yes - does one complete officer training first and then try out/compete/apply for pilot training or can you apply for a pilot position before completing officer training? - Can you apply to specific aircraft or do you get assigned based on need/availability/your own abilities? - How many years does it take to become a USAF officer? - How may years does it take to become a USAF pilot? Thanks in advance Disclaimer: I am not a spy - honestly:music_whistling:

Sounds like you guys/girls had a blast. I hope, like many others that you'll share some footage or AAR.
