The lack of damage to runways and ordnance that can damage runways may not be much of an issue now, but will become a pretty big factor (hopefully, anyway) once the dynamic campaign is released. Shutting down hostile airbases by cratering runways is vital to the success of the Voldemort sim's. campaign.

Thanks, Cobra!!

Thanks!! That's great!!

Wait, is this currently implemented, or only in internal testing? Harlikwin wants to try it out and Kerosene says it works. Are y'all Razbam testers, or has this been released and I missed it? Thanks.

Exactly. That's what I'm hoping for

For a variety of reasons, I'd still like to use the Assisted Startup option for now. One of those reasons is a video I'm making on my Facebook page. The boxes are distracting and unnecessary, and besides not being able to (completely) remember the process from start to finish, I'm also showing my FB friends alot of Jester functionality. I'd just like to do it without the boxes. If not, it's fine, but I'd like to request that the devs make it a wishlist item if it's not already possible, since the wishlist section is gone. Thanks.

They show up on any mission that I do an assisted cold start on.
-
Is it possible? I've started the 'Cat enough times to know where all the switches are. Is there currently a way to disable them? If not, can the option to do this be considered a wishlist item? Thanks!!

Edit: Since people are including helicopters, I'd say they've all gotten consistently easy, but the easiest would be the Black Shark, and the hardest would be the Mi-8, only because it takes forever to slow down, and a much more deliberate, calculated approach, due to the more pronounced dangers of VRS.

F-5. It's the only module I own that I can never consistently land well. Easiest? A-10C. By far.
-
I would also like the option for the 600(?) gallon external wing tanks, not just the 370 gallon ones.
-
Where did you get that from? Did I miss an announcement somewhere?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I want these features for use offline, as I almost never play online. Mission building and the eventual Dynamic Campaign will allow plenty of great ways to use these features. For me, at least.

Is the F-16 HOTAS as intuitively as the A-10C?
Jetguy06 replied to Knock-Knock's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
I have my WH throttle mapped in the "Voldemort sim" the exact same way you do. I guess it's a common way to map it since that mapping scheme works so well with that throttle. -
Makes sense. I'll try to get a quick trip around the boat sometime today or this evening and take some screenshots to show what I'm seeing/not seeing. I'll report back then.
-
It works. I'm just not sure if it works as intended. The ball is only ever "centered" when you're basically on the deck, going to idle, and holding the wheel brakes.
-
Makes sense. Thanks!!
-
I checked the pocket guide and couldn't find anything. How does the "ball" on the Tarawa island work? It seems like the only time the ball is aligned with the datum lines is when I'm nearly or completely wheels-down on the deck. How does this work? Thanks!!

Quick question... What does the '(N)' mean behind the aircraft type? Some are just F/A-18C, others are F/A-18C(N). Thanks!!

I didn't get to sit in the pit. The jets were roped off for some reason. Also the general rule, for safety reasons, is that civilians are not allowed to sit in any seat that is ejection-capable, even if the seat is pinned and/or unarmed. But I did get to look into an A-10C pit from a maintenance stand back in 2011 or '12 (again, at the Barksdale air show). I was pointing out all the switches to my (then) girlfriend, and the crew chief (who was sitting in the seat) asked me how I knew all of the switches, and if I worked on Hogs. I told him it was from flying it on DCS. His response was more of, "Oh, okay." And that was it. The only thing I wish was different from this weekend was that the Hog pilots didn't bring any patches to sell. I got quite a collection of patches from this weekend's airshow, and the Chennault International airshow in Lake Charles two weeks ago (Mother's Day weekend).

So, I was at the Barksdale AFB airshow this past weekend, and got a chance to talk to one of two Indiana ANG A-10 pilots who were there. This one was a Lieutenant Colonel. Since the A-10 is my favorite aircraft, and I have flown the -C extensively on DCS since ~2011, I was incredibly excited for the chance to talk to a real A-10 pilot one-on-one. I was asking plenty of questions that, honestly, seemed to be catching him off guard. He finally just came out and asked me, "How do you know all this?" I told him that, although it's a simulator, and hardly comparable to real life, I fly the DCS A-10C and have for about eight years now. His response? "Ohhhh!!! DCS!! I know that sim!!" Apparently, when he started in the Hog, the -C model upgrade had not started yet, and they were flying -As. According to him, when the wing got -Cs, they used the military version of our -C model to train on. Once that connection was made, he absolutely lit up with excitement. We talked for a good ten or fifteen minutes about different things about the Hog, and I got the impression that he was relieved to not have to "dumb down" his answers. He was talking shop with someone who knew his stuff!! Once some other spectators showed up, I decided to cut the conversation short so the others could talk to him as well, but I have to say... for the first time ever, I truly felt like I was part of the Hog community. Or, at least as close to it as I ever will be and ever have been before. It was a fantastic experience, and I thought the community and developers here would like to know that not only did he know about DCS, he was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the module. He even mentioned looking up the commercial (our) version's manual. His words (paraphrased): "I looked up the sim's manual, flipped through a few pages, *mimes flipping through a book* and 'wow!! This is our flight manual!!'" He laughed about that. He really was quite impressed. Anyway, I just wanted to share this incredible experience. Thanks for reading!!

USB Power Surges. Help please!!
Jetguy06 replied to Jetguy06's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
USB power saving seems to help, but not completely eradicate the problem. I still get disconnect/connect tones when I take my computer out of sleep, but they don't seem to persist anymore once I start actually doing anything on my PC. I'm still going to look into a powered USB adapter just to be on the safe side, but things seem to be workable, at the very least, at the moment. -
USB Power Surges. Help please!!
Jetguy06 replied to Jetguy06's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm sorry... I completely looked over your post thinking yours was a previous post. I'll definitely look into disabling the USB power saving, and the other hardware options. Hopefully it won't come down to spending a whole lot of cash. I'll report my results from the USB power saving options. Thanks!! -

Swapping out the keyboard to a motherboard port works, but my stick, throttle, and pedals are still connecting/disconnecting while on the hub. -
USB Power Surges. Help please!!
Jetguy06 replied to Jetguy06's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yeah, it's a 2.0 USB hub. It doesn't use an external power supply or anything. You just plug your USB peripherals into it, then plug it into a USB port on your computer. I'll try switching out the keyboard and report my results. Does a USB extension card require external power, i.e. from a surge protector? Because I'm running short on available space on my surge protector. Thanks!!
