Oh nice!! If ED implements this, it will be near the top of my list of features to look forward to!!

I think I'm understanding. I know you can't simultaneously use the PNVS and other systems in the IHADSS. But from what you said, if I'm understanding correctly, you can display what the TEDAC is showing (what you see in all those Apache guncam vids on Youtube) in the IHADSS? That's what I'm trying to figure out. I was under the impression that the IHADSS could only display what the PNVS was seeing, and not any other systems, and to see the TADS LOS (again, what is seen in those YouTube videos) you had to look at the TEDAC screen (TDU?) or one of the MFDs in the rear seat.
-
Does this mean the TEDAC can be displayed in the IHADSS? I was assuming only the PNVS could be displayed there and the Pilot/CPG had to go eyes-in to their screens to see the TADS LOS.

Excessive radar detection range on AI aircraft?
Jetguy06 replied to Night Owl's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
That's generally how radar works. Think about shining a flashlight at a treeline a mile away at night. The photons will make it there, but they will be too scattered for you to see anything in the treeline. It's the same thing with radar. The radar waves can make it that far out and hit your aircraft, but it's highly unlikely you'll be detected at that range, unless it's an AWACS painting you. -
[ALL MODULES][SP/CO-OP] Liberation Dynamic Campaign
Jetguy06 replied to shdwp's topic in User Created Missions General
Thanks, Claw. Do I need to uninstall the current version of Liberation before installing the new one? If I do, how do I cleanly uninstall it? Thanks!! -
The F4U Corsair is being developed by Magnitude, and the A-7 Corsair II by Flying Iron. Neither are part of the ED dev team working on the Apache. The F4U is, by my best estimation, fairly close, since most of the work right now is on UV stuff for the 3D model of the cockpit. The A-7 is farther out, but the point is that neither are affected by the Apache since both Corsairs are being developed by third-party developers.

[ALL MODULES][SP/CO-OP] Liberation Dynamic Campaign
Jetguy06 replied to shdwp's topic in User Created Missions General
Hey guys. How do I update Liberation? The version I have installed is from back when the Syria map was just released, and I want to install the newest version. How do I do this? Thanks!! -

I'm kinda hoping for a pre-order tomorrow, now that the Mosquito is out of the way, and with all the teaser videos released... I'm hoping tomorrow is the day. It'll be the last step out of the way before release!!

That's why you always go full power, even if you are 100% certain you caught a cable. If you wait to realize that you haven't caught one and then add full power, it could be too late, and your aircraft could be in the water before you got sufficient speed to go around again. Add full power at or just before wheels hitting the deck, and you'll have plenty of power in the event of a bolter. This is how the real naval aviators do it.

I'm just chiming in here, guys, but I think quite a few people here are missing the point. This post wasn't meant for anyone who has commented so far. It wasn't meant to crap all over the Phantom and say it was a bad aircraft, a poor performing fighter, or even a bad choice for a DCS module. It's to point out to those, however few, that might think the Phantom is better than it is. I would love a Phantom in DCS. If I had my way, we'd get four variants: 1. USN/USMC Vietnam era (B) 2. USAF Vietnam era (C or D) 3. USN/USMC Post-Vietnam era (J N or S) 4. USAF Post-Vietnam era (E or the one I would do certain unspeakable things for, a Wild Weasel G) Bear in mind, this is coming from a young(er) guy, 31 years old, on the cusp of GenX and Millenial, whose two favorite aircraft in DCS are the A-10C and the F-16. I love aircraft of all eras, and when I'm feeling like a trip back in time, I want to fly a Phantom or something of a similar era. If I want to get things things done on a modern battlefield, it's the "flying computers" for me because, you know, best tools for the job and all... Anyway, I can see what OP is saying here. It's a great and capable aircraft, but as an FYI for those out there, however few they may be, it's not perfect and has its flaws, though very full of character. I read the title more as, "Keep Your Expectations for an Awesome Aircraft in Check, Here's Why..." Anyway, I've typed enough for tonight. Have a good one, guys and gals!!

Makes sense!! Thanks for the info!!

Do you have a radar lock on the target? If you do, there should be a small circle inside the funnel. Viper pilots call it "The Dot of Death." Fly to put that circle over the target and squeeze the trigger, or as fighter pilots say, "Put the thing on the thing."
-
Yes, but by that point, your throttle should be at Idle, and your left hand is free to remain on the switch while your right hand oscillates the nose. Also, the MPO switch is bound to the O key by default, so you really shouldn't need to fumble with the mouse to find it.
-
Correct. Identify the deep stall, then power to Idle, press and hold the MPO switch, and oscillate the nose up and down. Remember to follow the nose, don't fight against it (IOW, when the nose drops, push forward on the stick. When it rises, pull back). Once the nose dips far enough to break the stall, release the MPO switch, regain airspeed above ~125KIAS, add throttle, and recover to level flight.

As far as I understand it, this is still how it works, even in 2021. You'd have to ask Lockheed Martin to get an answer as to why.

Heatblur Update - Supersize Me & Public Roadmap
Jetguy06 replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
We've already got the Block 50, and the HTS is coming "soon." A Block 52 would only mean a P&W engine rather than a GE. But a 40/42 would be really nice!! -
If HB were to do the Phantom, my dream would be an approach similar to the Tomcat where they make four distinct variants. Personally, the variants I would envision are: 1. US Navy/Marine Corps Vietnam-Era (F-4B) 2. USAF Vietnam-Era (F-4C/D) 3. US Navy/Marine Corps Post-Vietnam through ODS (F-4N/J/S) 4. USAF ODS (specifically, the F-4G Wild Weasel. I'd sell certain body parts for one of those.)

As said above, it's due to crosswind. Pressing the Cage/Uncage button on the throttle will cage the HUD, centering the symbology, and you will get a second velocity vector. You'll have the normal one which will be caged in your HUD, plus an extra "ghost velocity vector" which will not be caged and will show your true velocity. It's highly advised to uncage your HUD in the groove so you can get an accurate representation of your aircraft's velocity for lineup.
-
That may be, but they're still both absolutely correct. Improper AoA during a carrier trap could result in your hook sailing over the wires (too fast/too little AoA) or an in-flight emgagement, where the hook catches a wire before your wheels hit the deck (too slow/too much AoA, and IFEs are very dangerous). Maintaining proper AoA will, most of the time, avoid these two scenarios, though you may still have a hook skip bolter. But those are not typically due to bad AoA, just sometimes bad luck.

Other developers aren't based in Russia as ED is. Different jurisdictions, different restrictions from the host country.

This would be a day-one buy for me. I've been internally screaming for a Fresco for a long while now. It is definitely NOT a MiG-15. It's faster, with a better TWR, better acceleration, and was also the tightest-turning fighter until the F-16 was developed. The MiG-15 may look identical to the -17, but they're definitely different enough that a -15 is simply not a suitable replacement or stand-in for the Fresco.

How much throttle are we supposed to use in the A10CII?
Jetguy06 replied to melchionda's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
Start at 19:59. The A-10's engines are analog-controlled, not digital. AFAIK, no, the engines in the A-10 don't have a "time limit." They seem to run fine on max power for extended periods, but I'm really only guessing here, as I don't usually fly at max power for very long. As I said above, you really don't want to fly in max power except for takeoff and evasive maneuvering, neither of which will last very long.
